Stanley, Vesalainen and a pick for Edler?

Retention to half and a single year cap dump assumed.

And before other Canucks fans jump down my throat, Edler has a NMC he has been vocal about not waiving in the past, and I can imagine that is still an obstacle to moving him, even if he has some roots in Winnipeg (Moose, 06-07).

Ehm, Edler is not the Edler who he used to be, last heard he is taking lot of penalties using his stick, that usually means he is slowing down.
SO nope, dont need more of those guys, I actully rather keep Stanley and see if he takes more steps.

Dumba is playing well again so it’s hard to imagine Minnesota winning a trade for him right now. He can look shaky at times but he is more steady than he appears. Luckily Addison & Menell are capable RHD prospects who are NHL ready.

Perfetti makes the most sense as he fills Minnesota’s need at C and Dubois’s arrival lessons the urgency for another C in Winnipeg. Value feels about right as well

Definite no from Winnipeg.

I just can't see Jets targeting a guy like Dumba, I could be wrong but I just can't see it. Plus I can't see Wild trading Dumba to a team in the central next year.

Hajek and Rykov wouldn't bring back a 2nd, not even close. Neither have even established themselves as NHLers, and in Rykov's case he never even got a single NHL game before bolting to Russia. Robertson has decent value but he's still only a prospect. Two 2nd's for any of those Dmen + 4th would be awful value.

As for the 3 way at the end involving Buchevnich, that would be more realistic for sure. Just need to find a team who need a forward and have a surplus of Dmen that might interest Winnipeg. Winnipeg have several D prospects (Samberg, Heinola, etc) but need someone right now so it would need to be a Dman in Buchevnich's value range rather than prospects.

Since you asked me specifically, from the Avs perspective it probably doesn't make sense for Avs to move a Dman for a forward unless it's a 3C, and Strome isn't the ideal target so I don't see a fit.
NYR not trading Lindgren. Although a 3 way trade could possibly work with Buch + going for Ekholm, Ekholm going to Jets, and ?? To NYR. Jets should just try to get Ekholm themselves

I mean...Edler is likely slowing down, although I'm sure someone will make the excuse his ice time is affected by having Schmidt, Myers and Hughes, but him taking penalties with his stick isn't tied to this, at least with Edler.

But if you'd rather go for someone younger, no problemo.

Winnipeg Gets
Ekholm
(I'm sure the Jets would prefer Ryan Ellis, but I'm assuming Ekholm is more likely to be moved. Nashville fans can weigh in here, obviously Ellis would cost more)

Nashville Gets
2021 1st Round Pick (likely 20-31)
Either Sami Niku (Niku was 2018 AHL defenseman of the year, he's a 3rd pairing powerplay specialist and currently does not fit into Maurice's system) or Kristen Vesalainen (1st round pick in 2017 and is exempt from the expansion draft)

It's rumoured that the Jets will be offering a package like this for a top 4 defenseman. Niku is more expendable than Vesalainen. Vesalainen was offered in the Ekholm trade because Ekholm has a little bit of term and has a good cap hit. From a Winnipeg historical perspective, this is something Chevy would offer for a top 4 defenseman (rental). Heinola & Perfetti will not be moved (again, based on Chevy's history). I wouldn't expect Samberg to be moved either. I'm just looking for a realistic trade that might happen, not something that will never happen.

Chevy's previous Deadline trades
Stastney for 1st rounder and Erik Foley (injured, but a B prospect at the time)
Kevin Hayes for 1st rounder and Brendan Lemieux (B prospect, bottom 6 guy)

Why? So what if you lose DeMelo?

The Jets should be going all-in this year. Next year they're back in a division with Colorado, St Louis and Dallas. They have a dream path to the conference final this year.

This year may be an easier path, but I dont think any of those teams are out of our punching weight. If we can get back to a league average D core.

I haven't watched Burns at all. But if there is a guy in the league that comes to closest to replacing what Buff brought to the table...

Maybe Sharks could retain some salary to get a bit more of a return as well?

I like and value Ekholm a lot more than Ellis. Maybe not every Preds fan would agree. But I think they are both capable #2 NHL defensemen. Just depends on which side your #1 D plays on whether one of them therefore ends up on the 1st pair or 2nd pair. For us with Josi, Ekholm ended up on the 2nd pair. But to me he's much better defensively than Ellis, and about the same offensively. Also cheaper and bigger.

I don't really think either of them are available in a trade, however. The rumor mill already has Ellis proclaimed as "untouchable". But Ekholm is a better hockey player, just happens his contract will run out after next season so I guess some pundits thought it would be good to put his name into the rumor mill to generate some clicks or something.

To Minnesota: 2021 1st, CBJ's 2022 3rd, Stastny, Perreault

To Winnipeg: Dumba, Rask

Minnesota get an upgrade at C for the remainder of the season, a 2021 1st, a 2022 3rd, and 10 million in cap space this summer. Moving Dumba also means not having to protect 4 D in the expansion draft. It's possible the expiring contracts of Stastny and Perrault could be moved at the deadline as part of another deal

Winnipeg land a top 4 RD, and a replacement 3C in Rask who comes off the books when it's time to re-sign Dubois

Not from this MN fan.

Nowhere close actually. Niku doesn't crack the lineup and your two pending UFAs would help for a few months, maybe. Meanwhile, Dumba is having an absurdly good season. The late first is fine, but nowhere enough.

I wouldn't mind trying to put something together with Winnipeg. I don't really see a reason to do it now, and not just a couple days before the ED.

Maybe I'm selling Niku short, but the only long-term piece I see for the Wild here is a mid-late 1st. Other pieces aside, I think we'd need at least an Addison-level prospect in there with the pick.

I'm also pretty sure that the Jets would want to hang onto Stastny more than the Wild would want to acquire him.

Swapped out Niku for CBJ's 2022 3rd

There's value in cap space...

Would you rather have Rask + Dumba or a 2021 1st + 10 million in cap space?

TBH no interest in Dumba or Rask, Rask fills no need at a big cap hit and Dumba isn't the type of the D the Jets need/want IMO, thus no need to discuss values.

No thanks, no interest in giving up the Jets first for Dumba. He's not the kind of defenseman Winnipeg needs.
