I am curious to see how people's perceptions of our prospects have changed since the fall, with almost another full season of development.

I took my crack at a top 25 of what we still have in the system.

The criteria I went with was under 25 years of age, and players who are on the NHL roster as of the trade deadline are not included (so no Kapanen or Dermott).

I was looking at age (room for future development), current point in development, trajectory since drafted/signed, and likelihood to make a future impact at the NHL level in determining the ranks.

He was shopped hard all summer. No takers at a reasonable price so they kept him. Now they are keeping him through the playoffs and Likely make him a offer of a 3/4 year deal at around his current cap hit or he walks away and we get cap space.

this is pretty much untrue imo, we know he was offered in a trade for Hamonic, but that's not selling him or shopping him hard, your telling me that no one in the summer was willing to give us a good package for a 30 goal 60+ point net front presence. hard to believe no team was interested enough to give us good value. he may have been the main piece we tried to use to get a defensive upgrade ala Hamonic, that's not shopping a player in my opinion.

eeeek, I understand your criteria, but I sure hope Dermott and Kappy never sniff the AHL again.

i think grundstrom is getting overrated the way brown was priorly, on the prospects list, because grundy is gritty and everyone likes the way he plays. i think his ceiling is top nine, but i don't think he has the shot or instincts of aj nor the finesse, speed nor vision of bracco but we'll see.

They look like they're permanent NHL players but both spent half the year in the AHL and are still very young. They are close to graduating from the prospects list but I figured including them would be a more accurate reflection of our prospect pool.

It's entirely possible either of them could get a stint in the AHL next season, if they struggle. Nothing is guaranteed until they play an extended stretch of games (50+) in the NHL.

I just cleaned up my prospect rankings for the organization. I removed a few prospects because they either are no longer part of the organization or they have no realistic shot at playing for either the Marlies or Maple Leafs going forward. I did not include Par Lindholm in the rankings because he is over the age of 25, which is the criteria I used for this list. I value age, so a guy like Kara or McGregor is given the advantage over a player like Mason Marchment because of the 3 or 4 year age difference.

Added:

D Igor Ozhiganov

Removed:

F Nolan Vesey (traded)
F Jack Walker
F Vladimir Bobylev
F JJ Piccinich
D Nicolas Mattinen
D Keaton Middleton

I'm guessing the AHL playoffs may change some perceptions of some of these players.

Rookies Engvall, Grundstrom, Brooks, Marchment playing all 20 games should indicate where there at in their development.

I would probably wait until after the draft to make my personal updated rankings. That'll change a lot once the Leafs add some prospects. There could be some guys traded off of that list too.

Astonished that people rate Engvall so low. He came to the Marlies and put up PPG numbers at the end of the year and still managed to put up decent numbers in the playoffs when demoted to the checking line. With his speed, skill and size, he has top 6 potential written all over him.

Grundstrom has scored 31 goals in his last 69 games between the SHL and AHL (13 goals in 32 playoff games). How does that suggest he does not have a pretty damn good shot?

For those of you that have watched the AHL what is the knock on Mason Marchment?
He did well in the AHL playoffs and has the size the Leafs need up front.

I think he had a good year, but needs to show similar progress to push his way onto the squad next year. Could be the team's next Hyman.

That’s what I’m hoping. A guy that can contribute in the playoffs by wearing down the opposition D.

Don't think there is a knock on him. He is just pleasantly surprising. A testament to the development team.
Personally I would love to see him eventually make the leafs

I've been impressed with him but he's a couple of years off if he makes it imo

His current combination of size physicality mobility and skill/shot is pretty remarkable from the base he started at

I completely agree he's a year or two away if he makes it. I was just commenting that he's done nothing but excel since he signed with the Marlies, earned his ELC and keeps getting better.

What the development team has done with him is remarkable

My question with him is can he keep this level of progress up or is he going to plateau off

He'd be mighty useful if he could get to a middle 6 NHL level

I think Ian Scott might be our best goalie prospect. His upside is really high. He's a kid but his tools are on par with Woll.

I know the odds are against him but the leap he took in development this year is inspiring.
All we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride

Everyone seems to be forgetting about Moore. He could be on the Leafs next season. He's NHL ready. I have him above Bracco and Just below Lilly and Johnson.
Moore was absolutely fantastic during the playoffs. He turned 23 3 months ago, maybe they let him run the Marlies next year but he should be getting close to getting a call up.
