It's interesting that TSN lists Ekholm as the #1 trade candidate and TSN would be shaking down their contacts to help compile this list.

Perhaps there is just a large disconnect on what Nashville fans think and what is actually going on out there.
TSN is going off of the circle of made up garbage that is floating around out there. I think Ekholm blew a hole in any idea Poile might have been contemplating while Josi and Ellis were out. I don't think he will move him now, and if he does the only reason will be because he is planning on going 7-3-1 in the expansion draft. No idea why he would though, we don't have that many forwards worth protecting.

It is becoming a younger league but that does not change the fact that veterans have a place. With that said going back to 1915 the average age of retirement of defensemen is 33 years old and forwards 32. Forwards start to lose there effectivness at 27 to 29 and Dmen 29 to 31. 34 year old players are an exception in fact only 2% of players have played a game at the age of 34 from 1915 to today. The pressure to put younger players in the league is influenced the entire league being watered down talent wise by expanding teams. The influx of Euros delayed this for a number of years and allowed for league expansion. Going back to historical stats only 20% of players entering the league have played more than 200 games since 1915. And while the trend is to promote younger and younger players the failure rate of those young guys is greater than the 80% that have historically played 200 games. Yes there are exceptions but even generational talent players have struggled Eichel, McKinnion even Drisital have all had there struggles taking two to three years before performing to there talent level. McDavid and Crosby type guys are very few and far between. Defensemen take even longer when thrust into the league too early. It took Hedman 4 years to break 30 points Ekblad took 6 years to brake 40 points Jones took 5 years to break 40. Now there are some young guys that come out the gate with a huge year and just fizzle out.

The recent phenomena is that younger players are coming into the league more prepared and the salary cap era encourages teams to make use of young players. Going back to 1915 is probably giving you a lot of data that is just not applicable to the current era.

I think it means that a recent six-game win streak moves Nashville out of the sellers category, which they clearly were prior to this.
Even when we were thinking of selling Poile was stating the price for Ekholm was a 1st + elite prospect + 3rd piece. He may have been selling, but he wasn't interested in just giving a guy away either, which is what most Preds fans have spent the last month trying to say.

In a compressed schedule, a six game win streak can obviously change what a team wants to do. A week ago or so, Nashville was probably sellers. Now that they have clutched onto the fourth rung to be first round fodder for the Lightning, you probably will not be selling anymore.

Things are obviously very fluid. The guy I just responded to said that Nashville fans were saying for a month that no trades would be contemplated, which is silly because you guys were kinda out of the race until this recent streak.
That is not unsual for the Preds last year they lost the consolation series to the Yotes and did not get into the playoffs. Yet that kick in the teeth followed by a dismal first half of this season Poile will again sit on his hands and do nothing. The team can barely ice one top line and they rely on guys like Grimaldi to step up and have a 4 goal game. This team in in shambles and needs a rebuild badly. Watching one line and the rest of the team of 3rd and 4th liners has got more than old. But team scoring has went all the way up to 2.49 GF?GP woooohoooooo and they now allowing just 2.95 GA/GP. 12 more games against Tampa, Carolina and Florida will do them in late in the running. The celebration of beating Florida twice when they are missing Barkov. Hornqvist Stralman does little. 19 games left 12 against the big boys. I do not expect this to end well.

Initial asks are always high but no team would meet that price and a lesser package is what would seal the deal.

It's actually hard to get a premium for the extra year on his contract due to the expansion draft implications. From the Jets perspective, that means exposing Logan Stanley (6'7" monster/former first round pick who is finally establishing himself this year) to Seattle. So, if you're not going to get a premium for the extra year, might as well keep him for your run this year and maybe trade him next season near the TDL.

The Blues traded Statsny to the Jets even though they were still in contention for a playoff spot. Sometimes that is just the right move if you're not expecting much success in the playoffs (even if you make it). The fact that teams won't be getting much ticket revenue for playoff games makes it less important to squeeze a playoff series in just for the bottom line.

That's only 8 of the last 19 against the top 3 teams.

IMO it really doesn't matter who trades for who. Neither the Jets or Preds are true contenders for the cup. Cooler heads will prevail on both sides.

The Jets with Ekholm would be close to a Cup contender, considering their forwards and goaltending.

I stand corrected I counted from the schedule and have no idea where I got the other 4. None the less its still going to be a rough row to hoe.
