It's also a bit unseemly so many people are in a hurry to trade Cory...

Not "so many people".

Just 217-whatever and Tundra.

I think we would be doing him a favor.

I'm sorry but he signed the contract and he will honor it. To hell with "doing favors"!!

Lou isn't going to trade Cory and I feel confident to say that's an absolute FACT(even though it's my opinion still. :sarcasm: )!!

I'd trade him right now for a 1st round and any of these current goaltenders.

Holtby
Ryan Miller
Jake Allen
Cam Talbot
Devan Dubnyk
Ben Bishop

Maybe even throw the Hamburglar in there too. And Mrazek too if he gets another shutout in the playoffs this year.

Perhaps Kari Ramo too. You have to be a pretty special goaltender to be able to outduel the elite Ryan Miller in an elimination playoff game.

I might take James Reimer too, he's got 2 more playoff wins in his career than Schneider does.

Devils would never deal him.

I deal him for Tarasenko, in a heartbeat but the Blues would never do that -

Jake Allen has a pretty good future.

Schwartz + Allen + Oshie + 1st rounder and I'm listening.

I have no idea if Binnington or Barbashev would ever pan out. don't know if the Blues would ever ship a young stud Dman in a swap for a younger Dman of lesser caliber either...

Tarasenko on the devils would be amazing.

Schneider, Gelinas, Pick, Prospect

for

Tarasenko

He's a game changer and Blues would never deal him. They'd definitely want one of Severson or Larsson unfortunately.

...Is this serious?

Is this entire thread serious?

Schneider+Gelinas+Pick+Prospect for Tarasenko? Dear lord make this stop.

This is just as bad as some of the trade board proposals.

If Schneider is expendable, why do so many teams choke in the playoffs when the goalie isn't good enough? Pittsburgh couldn't win with their all-star team when Fleury was floundering.

Goaltending is the most important position in the playoffs. On no planet is Schneider "expendable".

Goaltending IS the most important position in the playoffs. The difference is that I don't use the assumptions that most do on what goalies are going to be the ones that stand out in the playoffs. So far in this playoffs alone, guys like Freddie Anderson (who nobody really had any confidence in), Petr Mrazek (who?) and Devan Dubynk (on his 4th team in two years) have stood out while Holtby who had an excellent regular season almost blew it last night and Pekka Rinne was marginal and is out already.

The state of goaltending in the NHL has never been better. Most (NOT Scott Clemmensen for the wise guys out there) goalies are capable of winning at the highest level IMO. Playoffs are also about competing under pressure. Some guys thrive on it and some don't and you don't know who will until they have to play under it. Will Cory? Who knows. Hopefully we will find out someday and that the answer is yes.

The way I personally view things in today's NHL is that I'd rather build the talent on the rest of the team and take my chances that I can find a competent goalie because I think that's the easiest position to find. For all we know Kinkaid could be that guy as well (he needs more experience obviously).

This is NOT a Cory bashing position. Obviously he is a good goalie but to those that say he is "Elite", I will not put ANY goalie on that level without at least one deep playoff run. That's my opinion and I don't ask others to share it.

Hopefully that wraps this up.

Stl won't deal tarasenko, but would you think about moving Cory for Backes, Fabbri and Barbreshev?

Schneider is a top flight (perhaps "elite") goaltender in his prime. Per Lou, the Devils aren't looking for many pieces - they're looking to add two top six players (C and/or RW).

Given that, trading Cory needs to net at least one high end top 6 forward. No need for multiple depth forwards and or defense prospects. High risk prospects should only be a throw in / add to even out a deal (e.g., Cory + Gelinas = top 6 forward + prospect).

This is why people keep saying Tarasenko. No one knows the other prospects enough to be able to tell if they're sure to have NHL success. And it's why "Backes + Fabbri + Barbashev" is hard to gauge. Backes is a good player, but has only topped 60 points once on some stacked St. Louis teams. He's also about to turn 31 and is UFA next year. So, he's really a stop gap for the Devils / cap relief for St. Louis (though, I think St. Louis would value him higher). For the Devils, the deal seems to really be about Fabbri and Barbashev - which seems like not so much in return for a proven starting goaltender who's save percentage ranking over the last few years (like the stat or not) was:

2015: 5th in NHL
2014: T - 13th in NHL
2013: 4th in NHL
2012: 2nd in NHL

Then again, if the Lou feels that Barbashev and Fabbri are two top 6 players in 1 - 2 years time, then that's a great haul. It all depends on how sure the prospects are, and how far they are from arriving.

Based on what I know - which is that prospects playing in juniors are generally high risk, and that I know almost nothing specific other than stats about either prospect - I think it's the wrong type of deal for the Devils.

I wouldn't trade Cory because our D is just developing therefore we need a strong backstop while the D develops. I hope Salvador is gone along with Mark Frazer. I think they keep Harrold as #7 D. I expect Gelinas will be part of a trade deal. So we will have Larrson and Greene, Severson and Merrill. We need to get an experienced D and one of our youth. While they gel we need Cory because he is strong. The offense gets better and we start winning again.

Kinkaid. Give him the reins. Can't do much worse with Kinkaid. After all they did finish 6th from the bottom WITH Schneider.

So:
1. Finish 6th to last
2. Trade away best player
3. Do not replace him with equal or greater goaltender
4. ???

I'm just curious as to what you think step 4 is.

You potentially fix one problem and create another.

Grab two players under 24 years old that you control going forward? Schwarz would jump to our scoring lines. Barbashev would have an opportunity to make the team.

the "we're wasting X player's best years" argument is probably the worst one on this board recently.

It's actually the most logical. We are much closer to the bottom as opposed to the top. A decision must be made. Do you spin your wheels with a moribund offense or do you attempt to balance your team with the most marketable asset?

There is nothing balanced about Keith Kindkaid playing 50-60 games. That is what many would call a glaring weakness.

And Keith Kindkaid is our starting goalie?

Yes. Bring in a veteran to play 20 or 25 games as a backup. Expectations are low so I don't what the big deal is. Schneider had a .935 save percentage and they couldn't even sniff the playoffs. Who cares at this point? It's about building the team going forward. I have no emotional attachment to Schneider when the cast is subpar. None whatsoever. It's a Herschel Walker scenario. Who really is concerned about Cory Schneider's individual accomplishments if the net result is negative?
