I usually will make a kind of Cajun rub with salt, pepper, garlic, paprika, and chili powder, but I usually don't get prime steaks. All a strip this nice needs is some salt and pepper. Gonna hit it with some compound butter and rosemary and thyme after cooking too.

oh, for an update: we made the brisket and ate it all. we nailed the recipe. the meat was just smoldering and falling apart. a cross between charcoal and like buttah.

Dealing with a ton of not-so-tasty thanksgiving leftovers from the in-laws so I've been trying to great creative. Made a chili last night with a ton of the leftover turkey and killed off all of the mashed potatoes this morning by making potato pancakes with breakfast.

I think I would have gained 20 pounds and 50 points on my cholesterol after a cruise like that!

I think you guys would understand why we're already looking forward to our next one! That's also not counting some of the delicious foods we had at the buffet for lunch - usually an awesome chicken curry with papadams was on offer and one day (I think the day we were at Freeport) they had some of the best roast turkey I've had in forever. There was also a cafe in the ship's solarium that had beef on weck sandwiches with your choice of au jus gravy, mustard, and/or horseradish to add on.

Our only complaint was eggs. We did breakfast in the main dining room one day and the eggs seemed fine. We got room service breakfast the next day and @JustHereForTheFights's omelette was rubbery and my scrambled eggs were tasteless with unidentifiable brown flecks throughout.

Weight-wise I think we did alright. @JustHereForTheFights and I walk pretty regularly on a cruise (hooray for jogging tracks and promenade decks) and we also try not to overdo it (like the people who order three entrees at dinner with three desserts to go with it). The most overboard I'll go is soup *and* salad as an appetizer and we were on a fairly central deck so we'd take the stairs instead of the elevator pretty often.

The best chicken wings in the history of the known universe, courtesy of Parkside Grill and Lounge in Moline Illinois. If you are ever there, check them out. They also have a great bar, a sand volleyball court and a sweet shuffleboard setup.

I just made short ribs for the first time.

All I did was sear them, then put them in a crock pot on high for a few hours with a buttload of barbecue sauce.

They were really good.

Not currently :-P We did a silent auction thing a few weeks ago with proceeds going to charity and said coworker bid on my baking skills so she didn't have to learn how to make a Key Lime Pie for her boyfriend's birthday. I tried to get all fancy and do the piped on whipped cream you see n the one below but it didn't work out like I'd hoped and ended up just smoothing it out.
