Smiths absence today could simply be a maintenance day. We will know tomorrow if he takes the morning skate. If he's not on the ice tomorrow morning and there is no announcement of an injury or a call up, then all bets are off

I have the gif of Hacksaw Jim Duggan smashing a 2x4 into the fake Leafs goalie. I can't stop watching this

Edit: it's the embodment of what I want the Preds to do to Toronto in a trade.

Leafs game is over

Bartley, and Volchenkov. Plus Diaby coming up, high end iq defensemen like Ellis are extremely hard to replace, whereas defensemen like Ekholm i.e middle of the road, are easier.

I don't think that Diaby is NHL ready until January of 2017. His development is slow. He has size, but rarely uses it. The AHL game is too fast for him at the moment. He seems bewildered out there. Playing with Piskula should help him. Diaby needs to be paired with an experienced D-man in Milwaukee for awhile.

Poile was on 104.5, yesterday, before the game and was asked a question about possible trade deadline moves...
In regards to a potential forward- top 2 lines are pretty good, so he is looking more for a player with some experience. If they had won a Stanley Cup already that would be lovely! The forward could be a PK guy or a specialist of somesort, not necessarily a pure skill or star player.

Welp, I guess that means we're not trading with the Leafs. :sarcasm:

I don't know if anybody will be interested in Volchenkov, Bartley, or Stahlberg. If Poile is actually able off load these guys in a trade for a viable asset, well he would deserve GM of the decade honors, I think.

I still don't see why Poile is pining to make a move. Why screw up the best team in the league?

:dunno

We have a lot of talent in Milwaukee and in juniors. We have an organizational glut. We are in a window of opportunity to win, and we have assets to use to accomplish that.

We should make some moves, if only to ease the flow to Nashville. Also, the ultimate goal is winning. You can't fault Poile for going after it.

Exactly. I would add to that Poile never shows his hand when it comes to making trades. If there is a trade that brings a top 6 guy in for a roster player plus an A prospect with another prospect and a pick he will pull the trigger. You can bet that Ellis and Smith are the roster players being shopped. This team is so loaded defensively that down the road we are going to lose one or more of these guys.

The extended stay of Nonis suggests that theres something in the air there. But with that said maybe there is no deal to be had with them.

Another point to consider only last summer this team could not attract top F/A's (Spezza) for one. A move to make the team better now along with this seasons performance will go a long way in turning this around.

I agree the better the season we have the more likely free agents till want to sign here and guys with NTC will waive for us. The deadline is still weeks away and a lot can happen between now and then injury wise. What our needs will be then maybe different then now. There also maybe more players available in a few weeks that aren't now. I don't see Poile making a move right now. He is talking to GM's no doubt and if a deal comes along that is too good to pass up he'll do it otherwise he's going to wait till closer to the deadline.

I don't know if Poile will wait til the deadline. Two reasons, one, he's made moves early before to beat other teams to the player or players he wants. Secondly, the longer he waits, the more the bidding war makes the price of any deal go up. One other reason is the sooner he gets the piece or pieces in place, the sooner they can start to gel with the team.

I don't see volch going anywhere. Other than him and Cullen is there anyone else with SCF experience?

not to mention he's a ufa on a cheap deal. No need to trade him.

and on another note, Smith skating today for the preds.... so much for that line of thinking...

Fisher was in the SCF with Ottawa along with Volchenkov. I think our coach having won the Stanley Cup is more important then anything.

for the little it's worth, ecklund says the preds are 'interested' in and have inquired about the following guys;

vermette, stewart, jagr, santorelli, petry, lecavilier, kadri, cole.
neuverth, fasth, Fleishmann, enroth, niemi.

so basically almost every forward or goalie. in my opinion it's more of him guessing who he thinks we need and not who we need or want.
