Ugh, that offer is awful. If Montreal is giving up Weber, to Toronto, they're going to need assets that actually address needs. A late 1st isn't going to cut it. Montreal doesn't need wingers, and they sure as hell don't want Zaitsev.
I'll refrain from mentioning any of the big 3 forwards, but any offer has to have at the bare minimum a 1st and Liljgren.
This is all moot, since Bergevin isn't going to trade Weber for anything but an overpay (since he actually likes him).
LOL he won't be retiring and giving up that money. Horton, Savard have been on LTIR to finish out their deals and weber will be too. The NHLPA won't allow it.
Horton and Savard were actually medically unable to play. At all. Horton doesn't retire because he collects quite a bit of money. Savard didn't retire because Boston didn't want to be hit with cap recapture and he was traded with the understanding that he wouldn't retire.
Weber will be able to play next year and their isn't a reason to suspect he'll suddenly get concussion issues. Montreal doesn't have any cap recapture liability. Weber has a crazy back diving contract. The NHLPA has nothing to do with this and sees no benefit for him being LTIR'd.
There's absolutely nothing comparable to Weber and Horton and Savard.
