Sarnia, On
just an FYI for everybody... that is just this guys opinion, and it's not fact.

Carrick is a decent young nhler. He will play the season with the leafs unless he gets traded to another NHL team. Liljegren is not a better option at the NHL level today, and will likely stay with the marlies all year to develop. He needs to do that before he can even "percolate". For those who like that term. But if he were NHL ready it would be Rosen looking for a new job as carrick is the same age as him but much better.

Another FYI.. this is just my opinion, but it's better then the one I'm quoting.

I think you are both wrong and our 3rd pairing RHD will be gotten at the trade deadline or we'll get someone who pushes Hainsey down into that spot.

Carrick reminds me of a younger, RH version of Matt Hunwick. Good mobility, small size, fairly intelligent but not much of an impact on a good shift, keeping it quiet and often outmatched physically. Definitely a component to upgrade.

Honestly what is his offensive ceiling? I can't fathom how good the tools he has on the back end. Good puck handler, stick handler, vision, shot and skating at pick 17!? He'll be with the Leafs next year. A year in the AHL will do him a world of good.

Thought I would post this, because it might be fun to track Liljegren's offensive progress as compared to all other 18 year old D in the AHL in the last 25 years. It is from Pronman's article about 3 Leafs D Prospects. I just updated Liljegren's totals to include last nights game as the article was written a few days ago.

If he can keep it up he has a great chance to top that list.

Wait? Did Michael Peca play in the AHL as an 18 year old? How come?

In 92-93 he played 55 games for Ottawa in the OHL and 9 games in the AHL. Those 9 AHL games would have had to be after he turned 19 on March 26 after the 67s missed the playoffs?

Edit: I found this from Wikipedia

The 1993 Calder Cup playoffs of the American Hockey League began on April 12, 1993.[1]

Could Peca have played before March 26 in the regular season before turning 19? Possibly a few but certainly not 9 games.

Over their first 5 AHL games:

T. Liljegren 1G, 3A, 4 P
W. Nylander 1G, 1A, 2P
E. Karlsson....unsure. After 4 games he was 0G, 1A, 1P and after 7 games he was 0G, 6A, 6P (not sure of the breakdown of those 3 games).

rielly and gardiner never had offensive skills like this at his age, and both are very good offensive D...his skating is also just as fast and powerful as rielly...hes already a solid 6' 190 at 18, maybe gets to around 6'1 200-210 which is good size

just gotta keep working on his defensive game and making good decisions in the defensive zone, he could be almost ready next season, and should expect to see him the year after for sure with hainsey gone and he'll only be 20
