Comets controlling much of the play and keeping the pressure on.

McMaster stopped in front in close. Good chance.

Tanner McMaster, 5'9", 171 LBS, 47th player to dress for the Comets this season. The leading scorer for the NCAA Quinnipiac Bobcats added to the roster on an ATO. Their season is over, 16-18-4.

Comets back to the PP.

Good chance by Darcy just poked wide.

Carcone has been injured and is cut on the head. Being worked on earnestly by the trainer, Toby Blosser.

Apparently he isn't going to die. he is back on the ice after being tended to.

Wiercicoh gone 2 for tripping. The refs need to get the comets 2 more times to even up the calls. 4-2 right now.

Comets don't challenge any puck carrier on the PK. They just sag and look to block shots causing them to have huge difficulties in getting to the puck resulting in the opponent continuously maintaining possession.

The Sens come back in after the PP ends and score. All that effort to get back into the game and just give up a goal because they didn't change up smartly.

Now a save by Bachman and Wiercioch almost scored an own goal.

With 4 seconds left a long shot was blocked by Chatfield but actually directed to the post and Bachman had to sprawl out to hold the post.

3-2 Sens after 2 periods.
SOG 11-7 Comets for a 2 period total of 24-19 Utica.

This has been a hallmark of the losing streak. Giving up back breaking goals off plays that never should have been. They are not only physically drained but they inexplicably fall asleep or lose concentration. Just not mentally sharp.
A very common pattern in humans, when physical fatigue sets in, mental errors often occur.

I said a few posts back that following the Laval Rocket would be the smarter road to take rather than waiting for the Comets to close them out of Playoff contention. They currently trail the Syracuse Crunch 3-1 after 2 periods. A loss by the Rocket would lower Utica's magic number to 9. If the Comets could somehow come back to squeeze this one out against AHL last place Belleville, the number would be 7. That's IF.

3rd is under way.

20 minutes to go to get at least a single point and try to turn this path before facing the AHL's #1 team in Toronto tomorrow. If they play the way they have in the past 10 games, including this one, I shudder to think how that one could end up.

The Comets' propensity to pass the puck horizontally bites them in the ass so many times every game.

Comets in the 3rd have been outscored 66-48 on the season. Last night the Comets outshot Laval in double figures in the 1st and 2nd and then in the 3rd when goals were imperative they managed a feeble 7 shots.

Still little to no scoring from actual Vancouver prospects in the last 10 games and they remain idle tonight.

2 good chances by the Sens.

Chatfield, who has no goals on the season, leads the Comets with 5 SOG tonight. That speaks volumes.

Comets will get 40+ shots and the Sens' keeper Taylor will be the Star of the Game. He shut the Comets out his last start against them 7 games ago. That's if the Sens don't score again.

Not exactly a whole lot of high energy from the Comets as thje clock clicks down.

Now Bachman gets run over and the Comets get another PP. under 7 to go.

Lose the draw and fired out. Carcone is an absolute idiot. Trips a guy in the offensive zone just barely into the PP. He will have to be here agsain next year and that is a travesty.

4 on 4 and a guy splits Wiercioch and Blujus and the ensuing shot deflects out of play.

5 minutes to go.

Darcy stopped and stopped again. Darcy appears to be the only Comet feeling any sense of desperation on this night.

Sens on a 30 second PP and they are dangerous.

PP killed and we're under 4 to go.

It's incredible a team this bad can play shut down hockey and hold onto a one goal lead for an entire period. Only vs a impotent offense can that happen.

TVTO 2:44 to go.

Cameranesi high and wide. Held in. Pass to Brisebois for a one timer and he breaks his stick.

Comets pull Bachman and the Sens get the puck out twice in seconds. Wiercioch does the norm and skates back into his own zone and they cannot get into the offensive zone.

Without any offensive threat of any kind the Sens score into the open net.

4-2 and and the streak continues. 9 losses out of 10 games. The Comets pull Bachie again and they score with 15 seconds left. Big Whoop.

4-3 Sens. Another goal by a PTO. The contract Comets should be feeling some real shame.

Here we go for 15 seconds to go and the comets never get the puck in . In fact the Sens miss the open net inside the comets zone at the end.

Work work work is still no substitute for a skills. All the work in the world won't get it done when you play with hands of steel accompanied by weak stick and puck skills.

Comets lose 9 out of the last 10 games.
The last 8 games have seen all Comets goals scored by a guy who has had or has PTO after his name this season except 2. Those 2 came from Boucher.
Sad, very sad.

Read through my game posts and the short post game post. This is it for me on this game.

Syracuse Crunch 5 Laval Rocket 2. The rest of the league will close out the Rocket and the Comets will slither, not limp into the playoffs. I'll change my tone if by some miracle than can right this ship. I don't see how. They will get 0 help until April 7th is in the books for the Cancucks. Fact is they could actually lose another player or 2 depending on Vancouver's health down the stretch. The Canucks are playing a pretty tough schedule against a bunch of teams fighting for their playoff lives and/or seeding and they will be playing for keeps.

Comets at Toronto Marlies tomorrow at 4 pm EDT in Toronto. Could get really ugly.
