No, If you want to sell an asset you come out and say you are absolutely not interested in selling, thereby driving the price up. If you come out and openly say you want to sell and are shopping the team obviously the offers will be less lucrative.
Still if a sale were close I feel like it would have been leaked by now buy someone proven to be legit

I think the biggest sign that a sale is near is that "Melnyk's paid shills" are starting to speak up about him. Lets be honest here, the station has done everything in its power to never discuss the owner up until the point where they have no choice but to do so. The Ottawa Sun is even starting to come around. Now, once Garrioch comes aboard, then we really know something is up.

This stood out to me as well....that said you would figure a potential owner especially one in negotiations would put a gag order on Melnyk in general as to not further sewer the brand...in turn you would figure Gene would be smart enough to realize that and refrain from comment....all that said a normal human being, even in anger and with some truth to it doesn't perform the stunt our dearest leader performed Friday night.

Hey gang,

As I have mentioned before, I will try and pop by this site from time to time and give you all a heads-up of what our show looks like on a particular day. We'll hit on the Sens (on and off the ice), a crazy weekend in the NFL and more. If you think we're missing something, let me know and I'll try and squeeze it into the mix. But I have a feeling the Melnyk/Sens stuff is going to take over a large portion of our show.

GUESTS:

TJ Carrie - Oakland Raiders cornerback - 3p
Ray Ferraro - TSN Hockey Analyst - 4:15p
Henry Burris - TSN 1200 football analyst - 4:35p

CONTESTS/PRIZING:
100-level Sens tickets for tomorrow vs MIN
4-pack of tickets for Sens vs MIN
Landmark Cinema passes (Orleans/Kanata)

SENS TOPICS:
Do Gary Bettman's comments make you feel more confident that the Sens won't be going anywhere?

The hashtag #MelnykOut was the top trending item on Twitter this weekend. Is there any way the relationship between Ottawa fans and Melnyk can be repaired? If so, how? If not, where do we go from here?

Any chance that Melnyk's comments are a direct attempt to get government funding for the arena project in some way, shape or form?

Huge weekend on the ice for the Sens, as they knock off the Habs 3-0 in the outdoor game. Do you feel like this team could be back on track after two straight wins? How much fun did it look like Karlsson had on the weekend?

Who are you more encouraged about seeing two straight good games from: Bobby Ryan or Craig Anderson?

What kind of experience was that for the city of Ottawa on the weekend? People seem cynical about outdoor games, but it appeared as though fans enjoyed the experience here in Ottawa.

Big win over Montreal on Saturday. If they can win divisional games this month - especially 2 vs BOS - will you be willing to say they're back in the race?

NHL TOPICS:
Auston Matthews skating again. Are the Leafs troubles a direct result of him being out of the lineup?

Were you surprised the NHL's Greatest Moment in the 100 years was Mario Lemieux scoring a goal in 5 different ways?

NFL TOPICS:
Officials overturn a Steelers TD from Jesse James....and end up ruling he didn't complete the process of a catch. Is there a more ridiculous rule in sports than the NFL trying to determine what is a catch?

The Dallas-Oakland game has bizarre moments too - including a measurement using an index card.

Also, Raiders lose the game because Derek Carr fumbles out of the end zone. Do you like that rule?

Jerry Richardson forced to sell the Carolina Panthers after stories of his inappropriate workplace conduct make the rounds. Panthers owner Jerry Richardson selling team amid misconduct allegations

MISC TOPICS:

LeBron James wears one white and one black shoe, each with the word equality written on it. LeBron James: Cavs star explains new 'Equality' shoes

MULTIPLE CHOICE MADNESS:

1. Which comment from Eugene Melnyk did you find the most surprising on the weekend?
a) Him suggesting publicly that he could move the franchise
b) Him saying it wouldn't be a disaster for him if Lebreton Flats didn't work out
c) Him stating that player salaries may have to be cut if revenues continue this way

2. Which NFL moment was more ridiculous yesterday?
a) Replay officials saying Steelers Jesse James didn't have control of the football
b) Referee Gene Staratore using an index card to confirm a Dallas first down

3. Which written apology from a celebrity for previous inappropriate behaviour was worse this weekend?
a) Jerry Richardson - Panthers owner who never apologized, but simply said it was time for him to sell the team
b) Mario Batali - Famous chef who apologized for previous mistakes - but tacked on a recipe for cinnamon rolls at the end

4. The Lakers are retiring two of Kobe Bryant's numbers tonight -- No. 8 & No. 24. What should they have done?
a) I'm fine with them retiring both numbers
b) Retire just No. 24
c) Retire just No. 8

5. What was your favourite Canada 150 event of the year?
a) Sens outdoor game
b) Grey Cup
c) Red Bull Crashed Ice
d) La Machine

Good stuff Ian, once again I'll give your show a listen, especially with Simmer there who isn't afraid to call out ownership.

I am somewhat surprised that after an eventful weekend like the city and the fanbase just had, that you aren't opening up the phone lines to hear from fans in this city who feel insulted by our idiot owner's comments. Anyhoo keep up the good work as usual.

Edit: Maybe this was already attempted, but I would try to get a former owner such as Bruce Firestone on the radio to hear his thoughts or what was Eugene's thinking, or someone else in the Ottawa sports business community to weigh in, even better would be Cyril Leeder lol, but that's a long shot.

Im guessing the issue with this is it's hard to filter out the poor callers who don't have much info to relay other than their own mis-informed views etc... A good caller is the best however they are few and far between so I can understand just cutting it out. Jim Rome said it best and im paraphrasing here but "More of me and less of you on the air makes for good radio"

Bill Carroll of CFRA had Firestone on this morning.
Mark Sutcliffe of 1310 is also doing some excellent coverage of the events this weekend.

Hey Ian, I do think the Sens can get back on track. There are four key players who are turning it up recently Andy ,Karl, Ryan and Duchene.

I think Anderson is the most important and he looked a lot better in his last two starts. It really is up to him and karl to get this team so hopefully they can keep it up

I think the Melnyk comments will dominate all day & maybe all week. At the least Melnyk's comments have taken the bulls eye off the players, the coach & the GM for now. Do you think he did it on purpose or was just speaking his mind as usual & stating the facts? It's quite obvious if the city doesn't support the team & revenues go down that he will have to make player cuts & reduce the budget. If it continues they will have to look at relocation if he won't sell, although selling the arena could be difficult. Hopefully, the team begins the comeback & all this talk blows over, but it certainly makes for riveting radio though for you guys. Enjoy your day.

Ian, it's amazing you are doing this. The show has been very good. Nice to hear you guys having a a bit of fun too while at the same time getting the right amount of serious on the tougher topics.
You have really helped the station improve. I commend and thank you.
Unfortunately melnyk does need to be discussed more because people are obviously very upset about things he says. Myself included. And we should be. Because we care about the team so much, not because we chose to dislike Eugene. Hope he understands that.

I know you probably won't listen to me, which is fair, but I have a quick question.

Is it possible to have an NFL insider that is someone who actually covers the NFL?? I love Burris, but he has another job that is not covering the NFL. Same goes for Duke. I miss the days when actual NFL Insiders were brought on the air. TSN690 still brings on a variety of guys who cover the league, not sure why TSN1200 can't do the same.

Ian,

Thank you very much for the show outline. Just a quick question , once again when the pregame has a big interview Simmer is no where to be found. Why did you and Steve Lloyd do the Bettman interview and not Simmer. Wouldn't he have an insight being a former executive and I'm assuming he's worked with Bettman in that role.

Thanks

Hey gang,

...

Hey Ian,

Thanks for popping in. I've listened to most of the interviews you've done re: the Melnyk fiasco this weekend and I appreciate your input/perspective. One thing that rarely seems to be brought up when attendance issues are discussed is how expensive it has become to be a fan of a pro sports team. After parking, a beer and the ticket (plus those lovely fees) a solo night in the 300s can still cost close to $100. If I were to spend $100 on a steak and lobster dinner for no particular reason at the Keg on a weeknight, I'd feel like an idiot. But somehow spending $100 (more if you have to bring a kid or a partner) to see the Sens play the Hurricanes on a Tuesday is considered standard. The reality is, I think we're getting for close to the point where pro sports won't be a realistic entertainment option for blue collar guys like me who make less than $50K a year.

Great show yesterday Ian and Shawn.
Thanks for being accurate and transparent in your coverage of the team yesterday.

I found it really interesting to note that the Ottawa Senators Organization does indeed contact you guys about the 'negative coverage' they sometimes receive on the radio. My question is: do they not believe the coverage is accurate? Who calls in? Is it Dorion? I feel like the coverage is fair .

Thanks

Thanks for the note and asking for clarification. Simmer was scheduled to be part of the interview, but he declined saying it would be harder to conduct an interview with 3 people and trying to maintain a flow.

So he backed out and Lloydie stayed with me.

I believe I have been nothing but fair and transparent in my coverage of this team - whether on radio Or print. That's not the way everybody feels - including those in the organization. I'm cool with it because I believe I've conducted myself like a professional and tried to maintain a sense of objectivity during their recent slide.

The thing I try and tell them is that the tone of my coverage will be dictated by the team's success on and off the ice.
