Slow starter but Freddy has been awesome, well worth the price paid, Sam Steel or not.

Oh gee, another "lets call out those posters who made a wrong prediction about a player" thread. Lots of insecurity going on around here.

Well, people were over reacting. Last year I got the trepidation, but after last year to listen to the bull in October was sad, really sad. So fickle.

I was a Reimer fan, but when we got Fred I was ecstatic. It’s night and day in terms of quality between Andersen and Reimer.

I think the commitment to getting a big goalie instead of trying to rely on a tiny (and not very good) one in Bernier also helped me instantly embrace Andersen.

Freddy is the best goalie we’ve had since Eddie and the team’s MVP. So happy we have him. I sometimes wonder where we’d be right now with the Reimer/Bernier tandem. Yuck.

Might be best goalie Leafs ever had! Look at all those shots/saves this year.. That is coming from huge Cujo fan and admitting it!

Oh gee, another "I was wrong but don't want to admit it" post. Lots of insecurity going on around here. :sarcasm:

That would be funny if true. I made no predictions at all. I'm secure enough to not need constant validation, no matter what I or anyone else opine.

I was clearly joking. Hence the two emojis. Methinks thou dost protest too much.

This is why stats make people look dumb sometimes. The best tenders pull it together and make big time stops when it counts the most. Stats, just toss them out the window. Who cares.

we should be able to track big saves. what do you mean exactly - like late saves that protect a late lead?

It's so hard to determine Zeke. To my eye, Freddy is our MVP by a long shot. It's not even close who the best player on our team is this season. We essentially traded out best player for our new best player and I am ok with that (Kessel)

freddy's been damn good. but if he played anywhere else there would be no vezina or mvp talk.

especially since we win when the backup plays too.

I have to admit, I did LOL when some idiot picked Freddie for the MVP on last nights broadcast. Just another reminder of why I pay so little attention to the talking heads that I can't even remember which one it was.

Again, with these statements you're making a case for trollposter #1

So you're basically saying that Toronto has the best defense in the league... lol It's not even a top10 defence. You dont think Andersens stats would be better if he played in Nashville, Boston, LA, St. Louis, etc.

Toronto is NOT a defensive minded team. It's the opposite.

btw the sample size with the back-up is too small to go on and is just a dumb argument anyways

If anything, the Leafs' defensive style makes Freddy's numbers look better, not worse.

McElhinney's, too.

Zeke is about as far from a troll as you can get.

So you're basically saying that Toronto has the best defense in the league...
That's not what he is saying at all, which would be quite obvious if you tried to actually understand his point. He's saying that the market breeds hype, and the Vezina is a hype-driven award.

You dont think Andersens stats would be better if he played in Nashville, Boston, LA, St. Louis, etc.
Not necessarily. Goaltending stats, outside of the purely team-based ones, don't get better or worse due to how offensive a team is. The determining factor is the average quality of the shot against. Toronto allows a high proportion of low danger shots, which means the tender is likely to have better stats.
