San Francisco lost this game in the 3rd quarter when the Chiefs had consecutive 3 and outs and Flatbrim refused to run the ball. Even got an interception right around mid field.
CMC, I think the pass catching may have skewed people's view of how effective CMC on the ground was in the game. 22 rushes for 80 yards and 8 catches for 80 yards. Each touch was over 5.3 yards, but each rush was only 3.6 yards. Think I reviewed the play calls in first half and he had 8 rushes for 27 yards. 14 for 53 in the second half and OT. Find more ways to get the ball to CMC in space. Like NE did using their short passes to the RB as an extension of the run game.Shanahan has now choked away 3 Super Bowls. Brutal.

While the defense may have cost Atlanta, there were some bad calls offensively. Late in the game, with the lead, 3rd and short, with a running clock, they hike the ball with 15 seconds left on play clock, pass incomplete and punt. They could have used a lot more clock. You're giving time to NE when you know your defense is faltering. It wasn't Shanahan that lost Falcons SB
That was Quinn and his pathetic defense
Shanahan/Ryan carried Falcons to SB in spite of HC and D

7 of those 28 points came off a pick 6, so ATL O put up 3 TDs. Just needed 1 FG and that last drive when Julio caught the ball and it was 1st and 10 from the 22, that series did them in. Think they got 2 holding calls against and a sack. At that point in time, you had to think at 1st and 30 from the NE 42, just get the ball back to the NE 30. Get 5 yards per play. A dump off to the RB or TE after play action. Bryant was a reliable K and they were indoors that game. Think they tried a couple of slants or something which didn't get completed. They didn't put up another single point after scoring with 8 and a half minutes left in the 3rd Q, so sure Quinn's D gave up the lead, but the offense packed it in as well
The very next drive they got the ball in NE territory at the 41 and proceeded to lose 15 yards and punt, a first down puts them in FG range and likely clinches the game

Interesting look at how SF was defended over the course of the season.
Kind of why we see in free agency, signings, and draft teams like Phi opt to not pay LB and go CB (though they were wrong on Bradberry and Slay still being good at 30). Even in the draft, been a while since back to Roquan Smith that we saw a LB go top 10. Even this draft, maybe 1 LB goes round 1.That’s the benefit of having the best corner tandem in the league. Allows Spags to do so much more with Sneed and McDuffie putting the clamps on (or bringing them on a blitz).
