My friend and I even have a Pete DeBoer emoji. He's the default old man emoji on iPhone. The one that looks kind of gold looking? My friend pointed out that he looks like Pete. So after a Sharks loss, I'll usually text him ''Tough building'' with that emoji.

Not that we should aspire to only do this, but I think 30-25-4 from here on out, gets us to 96 points. 30-26-3 gets to 95 points, which is usually a playoff spot, unless it's a really weird year. So we barely have to go over .500 to get in from where we are now.

Not what we should aspire to only do, but that's where we stand right now and what it will take. Any way to get 63 or 64 more points.

Who were the top 3 players for the Devils this game?
Hard to say, because I thought most players were at least okay. Kinkaid gave up at least one goal that he probably shouldn't have and Andy Greene had a particularly rough night.

Hall and Hischier were really good again, I'd like to single (or double) them out as being really good again.

Hall has to get at least a Hart Trophy nomination or 2. I think it's safe to say that even though McDavid's on pace for 100 points again, he probably won't be a serious contender to win it again, if they finish where they're on pace to finish right now. Just like when Luongo lost out on the Vezina to Marty in 03-04. Luongo deserved it, but wasn't given enough votes because his team still finished near the bottom, with the best goaltending in the league that year.

Who were the top 3 players for the Devils this game?

Severson. Was fantastic. He was a +11 on the 5 on 5 while the team was a -6 as a whole. Second highest was Moore at +5.

I'd go with Severson, Hall, and hell possibly even Moore who led all guys with Ice Time tonight and actually had one of his better nights. I'll give him credit when it's due.

Unfortunately I see a lot more OTLs in our future with our horrendous shootout performances. Stafford is the only one that scores at a decent clip, hopefully someone else will emerge. Could still be Bratt or Hischier.

Yeah, Moore is solid as hell out there. Where the hell did this come from? He's not that young, he has no right to improve his game. He's like the Brian Gibbons of the defense.

Uhh...Hall did score against Boston.

Hall (26%) is firmly below NHL average (32%), but he's not a disaster. Stafford is slightly below average for his career, but slightly above average over the last few years. If one of Bratt or Hischier could emerge as a steady ~30% guy that would really help. Bratt is 1 for 3, so he's off to a decent start.

Severson has also been passing the eye test recently, which he always has for me. Even his gaffes have always been because he pushes play and is a higher even player. Not Subban, Burns or Karlsson high-event, but higher-event than what we’re used to.

And Moore has been pretty good this year. Still prone to stupid plays, where he loses his brain for a moment, like one last night towards the end of the 3rd, where a shot from the slot was blasted wide of Cory, but he hasn’t been bad this season.

Occasional horrendous gaffe, like the same old Moore from the last two years, but he’s actually improved. Much like Miles Wood on forward.

Just finished watching the game.

Gibbons was kind of off tonight and then he makes a clutch play and GWG.

Don't know if this was already mentioned but the game turned in the 3rd when Wood turned it over at the Detroit blue line.

Instead of making the safe and smart play of banking it into the zone he tried to do too much and it led to an odd man rush and Mantha goal.

If Hynes can bench other players like PZ then Wood should sit Monday.

Devils had the game in control up until that point.

Thrilled with the win though.

Speaking of Wood, Bleed.....I wish he wouldn't commit penalties he doesn't need to.
Sometimes he gets a little out of control with them, but he gets my vote for the most improved player this year. He couldn't escape his D-zone last year, at times when he would get in.

Never thought he'd improve this much without extensive AHL time this season.

I don't know when he improved or how he improved, but he also took that healthy scratch in the opener pretty personally.

Here's something worth complaining about.

We play the Panthers on Monday night, and I'm stuck with watching the feed with Homer and Barney on Monday night.

They were brutal the last time we played them, a couple of weeks ago.

There is nothing to complain about. First place after Thanksgiving when we thought we would be bottom 5?

This is just sit back and enjoy the ride territory.
