Credit to the Own the Podium program. For years we struggled as a nation at the winter Olympics. As a land stereotypically covered in snow, one would think we would be one of the leading nations during this two and a half week phenomenon. However, historically we have been a disappointment at the winter Olympics. At the past 3 games, we have received more medals than we had in the 12 prior. From 1948 - 1992 Canada produced an average of 3.33 medals per games. The last 3 games have produced 24 (2006), 26 (2010) and 25* (2014) (*includes a medal for men's hockey).
It's great to see Canada put funding into amateur sport and grow our nation's sense of pride.
We are Winter.
