Just can't help myself....I have to check in and say this thread cracks me up considering I proposed trading sobotka even up for miller and was just hammered for suggesting that we give up our #1 center sobotka for miller....Gotta love it ...one month later and he's a third liner you know just like I said. Bob Bassen with a little better hands.

Quoted again for truth. I think the Blues will regret not trading Sobotka halfway through last year. It would have been the ideal time - when he was playing for a contract and Hitchcock was hyping him to no end. And while he was still healthy. I said last year that he's going to be injury and it was basically one after the other. And no player takes more head shots than Sobotka. It's just a matter of time before he suffers another serious injury that impacts the rest of his career.

On a side note, another team (Czechs at the WHC) where Sobotka plays on a top line and is on the #1 PP fails to score in a do or die game.

1st line center or 3rd line is irrelevant for his value to us. Sobotka's value is high with the blues, not so much anywhere else. He can slide up the depth chart when there are injuries very nicely.

In the IIHF thread someone posted a slow mo video from a different angle. It makes the hit look clean but just vicious. The point of contact looked to be the chest and he didn't leave his feet till after contact was made.

That may be, but the videos I saw didn't even have the puck in view so it was probably still a huge interference. Either way, it was still a reckless and dangerous hit.

Nah, sobotka just released his shot. I'd link the video but idk how. It was in the first page of it. I was irate when I first seen the hit too

We got the NHL best faceoff specialist and we don't have any highlight videos of that.

Agreed. He's a good role player but gets overrated by many. If this were baseball he would be good in a pinch but you wouldnt want him to garner a larger role or he will be exposed.

That said, he's great in a 3rd or 4th line role but with the hype I think he will get more than he's worth and price himself out of STL.

If the hype from fans dictates a huge salary bump then I am concerned with how our GM handles contract negotiations.

very sorry for the necrobump--but on the oiler board we are talking and Sobotka and his rights

IF I am reading things correctly, Sobo signed a contract with the KHL before the blues filed for salary arbitration and in that arbitraition sobo was given a contract of 2.75mill for one year--however after that one year he is a UFA? IS this correct--someone suggested if a team trades for his rights he would be an RFA after the 1 year contract.

He owes one year at his 2.75 hit, then will be an UFA.

I don't see any situation where his rights aren't traded by Monday or this summer. He won't be back, ever.

Trading Sobotka's rights for Petry could not be anymore perfect for the Blues. Sobotka ain't coming back, folks. Trading him for a defenseman who could come in and immediately contribute is exactly how this situation should end.

So he is more of a "non-factor" than a player who has played a combined zero minutes this season???

K

I would save Sobotka's rights for a player that would make a difference in the playoffs, if he's traded for a rental. Or wait and trade him in the off season and have something to show for it.

Petry is no better than Ian Cole.

He is better than Cole in every single way, other than age.

Checking?
Fighting?

Which is pretty sad because Cole is not very good at either.

Petry might be a little better offensively and they are about the same defensively.

Both Ann Arbor boys, might be a good pairing together, but not at the expense of Sobotka.
