The Bruins from 2011 and the Kings in 2012 and 2014 are examples of what to do at the Trade Deadline. Their Cup wins arguably wouldn't have come without those trades they made. Gaborik was big in the Kings run in 2014 and Carter added that scoring element in 2012. Now obvious there is no trade that will ensure us of a Cup but it's about giving this team the best chance possible at a Cup.

When we win the cup, they will sigh in disappointment that Therrien won't be fired now for years and have the job security Julien has.

For all the flak he's taken from some reporters and some radio stations, he deserves it. I hope he gets his cup win this season. It would tie everything up with a neat little bow.

I was and remain delighted we won. Now I can continue to wear my Winter Classic tuque through the rest of the season.

I will still wear mine

Before the game in the Patriot Place Mall next to the stadium Bruins and Habs fans mingled without problems :)

But we have a moron at the helm who is wasting the prime years of the strongest core we've had in decades. There's no excuse for that and I won't pretend I'm happy about it or try to rationalize the last five weeks of awfulness.

Hoping for embarrassing losses so that a coach can be fired is a bit illogical, no ? If the coach is good enough, he'll win and avoid getting fired. If he sucks as much as you think he does, he will eventually do something to get himself replaced.

No sense in hoping for losses. It will all happen naturally.

And Therrien is definitely not out of the woods yet.

I'm not against moving something. I'm not against trading some prospects and some players on the team that we could afford to lose. Its just that for that top 6 FWD not sure thats gonna be enough. Unfortunately I think its gonna have to hurt and many here will not like it including me.

Of course it's enough. Nobody is going to ask for Galchenyuk when the return is pretty much another Galchenyuk. If you're talking Getzlaf, then that's something else.
Won't happen. We are not trading one of our top guys just to get another one here. It's counterproductive. Moving a guy like Eller? or DD? Then okay, I could see that happening, but no one better than those guys.

Now if we're talking about a top 6, 50ish pt guy, prospects and picks are enough.
That's what other teams do.

TV ratings in the US were not good

OUCH

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...-down-nhl-nbc-least-watched-canadiens-bruins/

The Canadiens/Bruins NHL Winter Classic drew a 1.6 rating and 2.8 million viewers on NBC New Year’s Day, according to Nielsen fast-nationals — down 16% in ratings and 20% in viewership from Blackhawks/Capitals last year (1.9, 3.5M) and down 36% and 37%, respectively, from Maple Leafs/Red Wings in 2014 (2.5, 4.4M).

Montreal’s win ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched Winter Classic ever (dates back to 2008), falling below the previous marks set last year.

This year’s Winter Classic was just the second to involve a team based in Canada, which does not count toward U.S. television ratings. Of course, the same could be said of the 2014 Winter Classic, which involved the Maple Leafs and tied the NHL’s highest regular season rating since 1975, or of the several Canadiens/Bruins rivalry games that have posted above-average numbers for NBCSN.

It also faced tougher college football competition than last year, airing opposite the Ohio State/Notre Dame Fiesta Bowl on ESPN and Michigan/Florida in the Citrus Bowl on ABC. Final numbers for those games were not available, but the Fiesta Bowl posted a 17% increase in the overnights over last year’s comparable window.

Perhaps the biggest factor in the record low was the lopsided 5-1 score, the biggest blowout in Winter Classic history. No other game had been decided by more than two goals.

"Perhaps the biggest factor in the record low was the lopsided 5-1 score, the biggest blowout in Winter Classic history. No other game had been decided by more than two goals." was probably the culprit. It doesnt list the viewers by timeframe, and it was 3-0 habs by the start of the third. A good chunk of viewers probably lost interest at that point (and showing Simple Plan probably didnt help), and those in Boston probably loaded up PornHub.

The anthem probably dropped a million viewers right off the bat.

Jordan Smith won over a hostile Bruins crowd that booed him when he was introduced because of Rene. He was fantastic.

What was the reaction in Canada to this????

The CBS station in Boston ran a poll tonight and it shows how strong a hockey city Boston is.

I want to buy a Winter Classic toque so bad. The whole colour scheme of our jersey and the merchandise that followed it just looks fantastic.

Thank you for this! I'm just happy this got some coverage in the US.

The main thing is, I'm more happy that the Habs won at this great event than actually beating the Bruins. Cause really we needed this bad. Habs were Dead before this.

I thought this Winter Classic was the worst promoted WC I've ever seen so I'm not surprised. Even in hockey-crazy Quebec I hardly heard a blip. I still remember the Hype of Pittsburgh vs Washington and the classic vids of both coach's pep talks to their teams. There wasn't much of this here.

It shows that the creator of it wasn't there anymore.

Have to admit Jordan Smith did a beautiful job with the anthem. Not too much flourish, just a strong, emotive rendition.

As to Canada, I haven't finished calling all 34M, but so far the consensus is a tepid "Okay".

Great win. Was pitiful to watch Eller turtle and act like a pansy though. Say what you want about useless violence or I don't know what, this was a loser attitude and a pathetic display. If you don't want to defend yourself, defend the jersey at the very least. You pathetic excuse of a man.

Has he ever been in a fight? In his entire career? What was more pitiful than him not fighting, was the ref and and linesmen just standing there expecting a non-fighter to fight when he didn't want to. An absolute joke of an officiating job. Shameful.

The only time anyone should be expected to fight is if they're in a fight for their life. We aren't cavemen, why are people expected to resort in violence to protect their manhood. I have nothing against you, but that was a dumb comment.

I don't agree at all but not at all.

It's hockey. Not boxing. I have no problem with guys fighting after a cheap shot or something but there was ABSOLUTELY no reason for Eller to drop there. Not at all. We were leading and the Bruins were frustrated. Eller had his first great shift of the game and did nothing remotely physical on that shift outside of winning puck battle. Hayes wanted to create momentum by fighting and Eller would have been dumb to answer to that.
