I want to say that I am going to miss Chris Kelly.

He was the most passionate leader the Bruins had except for Patrice Bergeron. He was feisty, tough, and definitely had some snarl in his game. A Bruin to the core and true Bruins fans appreciated him.

Best of luck to him this season, and I'm grateful to him for all he did for the Bruins.

Nothing wrong with this signing. Adds some experience and leadership to the bottom 6, stabilizes the fourth line. Gives the PK a boost and gives more forward depth.

Plus it's Chris Kelly man! I always loved Kelly.

Yes its perfect signing but we aren't getting the Kelly of 2 years ago.

We getting a Kelly coming off major injury. If he really is 100% then this will be an excellent signing but that's enormous if.

Don't you think PD would make sure he is at 100% before signing him? Of course, you have no garanteed that it's not going to come back.

I hope PD did his research and ask Kelly and his agent how was the injury coming along.

As long as they're not afraid to scratch him I have no issue with this signing.

Boucher has no affinity (or perceived loyalty) to any of the current Sens players (excluding Hoffman) and BM is not the GM anymore, so I have hope that Boucher will ice the best team possible on any given night.

I'm glad it is for only one yr, I expect that the following yr there will be about 5 to 6 prospects who have a legitimate shot at potentially making the team. At some point this team has to start moving up in the standings if they intend to go for it while they have Karlsson, Ryan, Turris & Phaneuf in the lineup. Next season obviously won't be it, but it should be another step towards inching up the standings. Interesting that Ottawa has signed both Pyatt & Kelly most likely to reduce the shots & goals against.

That's great to hear actually. Hope he can bring that passion to the sens. :yo:

There was a memorable incident in the 2013 SCF when he got in Jaromir Jagr's face during an intermission in Game One and told him to step it up (in not so many words). He's as mean as he looks, and I can certainly say that I loved that about him.

I've been reading the Kelly thread on Boston forum.

I'm worried boys.

900K probably doesn't matter, but if his wheels are gone and the coach just keeps playing him despite his mediocre faceoffs and uninspired PKing it will get very frustrating.

Hope for the best I guess. Who knows, maybe a year off let his body heal a bit.

Pyatt and now Kelly. Underwhelming additions by The Senators. Going cheap. I would much rather give the young prospects the playing time. My guess is that GM Murray blew the budget with the acquisition of Phaneuf and there are no dollars left to acquire better players that command higher salaries.

Or we don't actually need/want a top 9 player given that we have 8 solid ones and Lazar who will get a look as well, leaving Paul, Neil, Kelly, and Pyatt to fill out the bottom line, or any pone of the several other prospects we have in Bingo that are ready for a good look...

We don't need or want a more expensive/longer termed player because we have Chabot, Brown, White, Perron, Puemple, Dzingle, Englund, Claesson, and more looking to get a chance to crack the team starting this year and next.

In our particular phase of development we need flexibility and roster spots to allow our blue chip rookies and the rest a chance to move into our roster. We don't need to overpay medeocre players as many wish we would. Following a proper development strategy is not being cheap, the budget narrative is old and soft, and a tool for the impatient and impertinent.

When we lose a key player along our core building trip we're on because we couldn't afford him while having cap space, then I will join the "grrrr budget" squad. Until then I'll continue to enjoy watching this young team develop unhindered by financial blunders.

The high shots against, leading to goals against tells a different story about this hockey team and the talent in the top 9.

The high shots against, leading to goals against tells a different story about this hockey team and the talent in the top 9.

Excellent defender added, entire coaching staff fired and replaced with PP specialist who is known to bring the best out of young players. Former cup winning assistant coach brought on to coach defense.

Despite a poor PP we are one of the top scoring teams in the league. We need a better defensive system, and needed another legit top 4 guy. What we don't need are more scoring forwards.

We could use a veteran defensive forward though.... Yup, got one of those too.

What the story tells, and how you are interpreting it seem to be two different things.

Heaven forbid Murray for "blowing the budget" for acquiring Phaneuf and filling a hole that was open for far too long...

Unless they are looking at the cash in/out on the Phaneuf trade in a different manner, the trade actually freed up almost 4M in salary this season.

I think the issue is that even without adding new cap hits, lots of Sens deals are back loaded so lots of players are getting raises in salary this season. Stone and Turris are examples.
