One: He has two years left on his contract, that's plenty of time to find a trade. Even pure rental prices would be better than some of the crap offers people have made.

Two: He's getting paid 6 million a year. That covers a lot of hurt feelings.

He will demand a trade because he has been treated that poorly. Years and salary have nothing to do with it.

Barzal + Nelson + Pelech is what should happen. Costly for the Islanders but they get another long needed star. COL gets a 2/3 center who is still young and can improve + a top C prospect and a young, good D prospect "with the right age" who is already an NHL player and would be their 3rd best defenseman starting now.

Just in case everyone forgot: Derek Stepan got 7th overall. If teams aren't going to beat that offer then no wonder Sakic is taking his ball and going home.

Why would anybody offer a high draft pick for a guy coming off the worst year of his career? Sakic is an idiot and will end up losing his job over this kind of nonsense.

Pelech would be an excellent inclusion in a Duchene trade. That's too much though.

Duchene can request a trade if he wants, Sakic doesn't have to trade him. He's under contract for 2 more seasons whether he likes it or not. Did we learn nothing from the Drouin situation? GMs don't have to trade **** until he gets what he wants.

Sakic is really shooting himself in the foot. Theres no way a trade isnt requested down the road with how this has been handled.

Garth Snow drew a solid line in the sand today:

Top-4 defenseman
+
Former 1st round (top 5 actually) prospect
+
Future 1st

Sakic now has two years to get a better offer than that. Tick tick.

Do we have confirmation that's a real offer? Or do we just have to takr your word that you talked to Snow this morning?

Drouin and Duchene aren't in the same situation, at all.

The longer Sakic waits, the less he'll get, based on his UFA status. Yzerman had a luxury that Sakic doesn't have right now.

Sakic seems to be painting himself into a corner.

What does he expect to happen? Duchene to re-sign? Fat chance.

Duchene to have an amazing season and bump his value till someone caves into Sakic's demands? Unlikely

Someone needs to pay for an Econ 101 course for Sakic. The value of a commodity is set by the market.

The true drop-dead date for Sakic to deal Duchene is the 2019 trade deadline. However...

  1. Does he really think offers are going to improve by then (with Duchene not wanting to be there and on a bad team)?
  2. Does he really want the Duchene situation hanging over the Avs heads for the next nearly two years?

At some point he better take a solid offer or it could get VERY embarrassing and potentially set the Avs back severely.

I hate Sakic as a GM but people here are ridiculous and basically just want a trade so they have a trade to talk about. The sky is not falling yet, he's getting offers he feels poor right now and if he keeps getting those offers then why make the deal.

Weaker centres like Hanzal and Stepan have brought back great returns lately, it's worth holding on to Duchene to see if you get something good. I'm very much in the trade Duchene camp, I just don't think it's the time to do it yet if the offers don't move the needle for you. Too bad the Habs moved Sergachev for a winger.
