See how healthy he is too. He has had some injuries. Shoring up with Emelin wasn't something that really stood out as a "need". To me, if Ellis scores 20 goals or 50 points, that's a nice problem to have.

I think Emelin was too bring a bit of grit to things, something our D Corp doesn't really have. I think Poile Prob a my sees him as a better stop gap in case of injury like what happened last year.

I'll take my chances with Ellis having a good year tbh.

Hey since the Preds would like some more RWers, and could use a LHS winger as well, what's your offer for Michael Frolik? Excellent defensive good for 40 points playing in a heavy Dzone environment under tough circumstances. Great player to relive pressure for the top line or just provide safety and allow Fiala to do his own thing without having to worry about defense something that Fiala is very suspect in. I'm thinking along the lines of Smith/Aberg and something else maybe? An expendable but good prospect? If Smith could you retain a little?

I think PK will be 12th man on Sunday at the Titans game. Actually could be several Predators.

I was hoping since the Titans players were very visibly supportive during the playoff run that the Preds players would return the favor to the Titans. Not that I expect to see PK and friends chugging tall boys and such, but good that they will be there

Value wise, I would consider Frolik for Smith, but it makes so little sense. Similar production, practically the same AAV, but Smith is a familiar face and most of the folks know him already. Possible move to shake things up if both teams start poorly? :dunno:

They have similar production, but Smith is the type of player that has skillset and speed, whereas Frolik is more about hustle. Frolik is far superior defensively to Smith it isn't even close though, so the Flames do suffer in the defensive department. However Smith being a skilled RHS winger that excels on 5on5 production and in a sheltered role generates a ton of chances is worth the Flames going after and using him with Monahan and Gaudreau.

So anyone want one of Michael Stone or Travis Hamonic? Flames are very abundant in RHD depth, and our prospects are more ready than yours even if Fabbro has the highest ceiling.

I believe Ryan Ellis' injury is worse than initially reported to conclude the season. That has to be the reason that Emelin was picked up, even though he is a value with part of the contract paid.

So some scenarios we could do with Ellis gone:

In order of most to least reccommended.

1. Sign Cody Franson (Analytics darling, won't be drag with the right partner). (Highly recommend, even if Franson is a failure it's an one year contract).
2. Trade for Michael Stone or Travis Hamonic (Flames are arguably the deepest RHD team in the league, with 2 NHL ready prospects knocking on the door already both mentioned players are technically expendable for the right price).
3. Trade Mattias Ekholm for Tyson Barrie and Matt Duchene (Highly do not recommend this, only do this if Bonino's injury is more serious, Weber and Carrier/Dougherty prove to be a massive failure, Jarnkrok/Johansen is very bad to begin the season and we're in a super bad position in the standings, and Ekholm himself struggles).

Holy over reaction

Signing Franson isn't an overreaction. Stone would be a great player to have even with Ellis back as Fabbro isn't ready and Carrier seems to be more of a PP specialist in the AHL.

Maybe you forgot that the team already made the just in case trade back in July.

Seriously hope Carrier impresses in camp and makes the team. Would much rather watch him, even if there's growing pains than Irwin, Bitetto etc.

Colorado is going to trade Barrie and Duchene for Ekholm? Okay.

Yeah serious overreaction. Definitely don't want Franson. He's slower than Fat Albert swimming in peanut butter, has no slap shot, and ain't that good defensively to begin with.

OK, Calgary just traded for Hamonic, right? Why would they ship him out before he ever plays a game?

we have serviceable depth at D already. No need for a panic trade, especially when there wont be a place for them when ellis does return
