And despite all that the Kings are willing to give him away for free and no one is willing to take him. He sucks. What about this don't people get? The guy is toast and he will be making about as much as Taylor Hall for the next 5 years.
He sucks because he's stuck behind Carter and Kopitar on a low scoring team and makes almost 6 million. Mike Richards is not done at 29. He's in a bad situation. Just a couple of weeks ago an older Roy looked more finished than Mike does right now.

Richards has lost a couple steps...and he wasn't fast to begin with
plus, he's not overly big so the wear and tear on his body has caught up with him

I'd take him only if LA retains 25-50% salary and they take Nikitin or something back

Doesn't Richards have a NTC? He would have to waiver it to be traded to Edmonton, and as much as I would like to add Richards as a player I don't like the idea of taking on his contract unless something comes off (Nikitin, Purcell, Ferance).

nope

Was traded before his NTC was activated and the NTC stays with the original team Flyers--teams do not have to honor the NTC or NMC but some teams give verbal assurances they wont trade said player

We don't want him. This isn't a case of a diamond in the rough falling into our lap. It's a fat albatross that stumbled haphazardly into our sinking row boat. It's clumsy, and if we keep it we'll just sink faster.

5.75M cap hit. Are you serious? Too many late nights, parties and binges for Richards. He's out of shape.

Wouldn't Richards have to clear Re-Entry Waivers when he comes back up? 50% salary would look attractive...

Oilers are in talks with Patrik Hersley's agent, according to reports in swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/internationellt/khl/article20223172.ab

Had 24 goals in 51 games last year for Leksand in SHL. Has 15 goals in 46 games for Sibir in the KHL this year. D-man, PP specialist with a rocket of a shot.

Thanks.

Below is a (very rough ) translation of the article for anyone thats interested.

There is a lot of politics in the NHL. And it could be ten crates fighting and tearing in two places

Hersley hunted by the Edmonton Oilers
The Swede can get NHL contract after the success

Patrik Hersley, 28, has taken the long road to success.

Now he's the best in the KHL and headed to the NHL, where the Edmonton Oilers shown great interest.
Sports blade can reveal that the Edmonton Oilers scouted Hersley and there are discussions between the agent Christian Sjögren and Oilers.

Sjogren adds:

- I can confirm that I for talks with NHL clubs. Patrick has done a good season in the KHL and the Three Crowns. Players who have lace properties are always interesting for NHL clubs, regardless of age. I am happy and proud of Patrik's development. I have believed in him all the time, says Sjögren.

Hersley know that Edmonton was and looked at him in connection with Channel One Cup in December, but he also knows that it is a long way to go to a regular spot in the NHL.

- There is a lot of politics in the NHL. And it could be ten crates fighting and tearing in two places. You have to be extremely successful at the camp, said Hersley.

Let us Claim the Mike Richards.
His baby Mama at the LA Kings should have to pay us the child support money for any of his additional expenses.

Lol "we don't want him" the worst organization in hockey with some of the worst center depth can't afford to not want anybody. Mike Richards is a former captain who has won everything at every level. If you think he's done at 29 your kidding yourself. He will make a comeback regardless of where he ends up.

Sens fan coming in peace, I've posted this on the main boards but was wondering what kind of feedback I'd have on this.

Taylor Hall, Fasth or Scrivens

Vs

2015 1rst, Mike Hoffman, Robin Lehner, Curtis Lazar, Z.Smith/D.Legwand

You guys get a lot of value in this one. Hoffman can fill part of the void left by Hall. He has 16 goals and 25 points this season already and thats similar production to Hall(more goals, less assists) and he's only playing 14minutes a night and all of his goals ES. You guys get another 1rst, Lazar who's a young leader and great player, Lehner great goalie prospect and either Z. Smith who's a big centre or Legwand who'd be an experienced guy for all the youth in EDM.

If the Oilers offered you that exact same package for Karlsson, would you take it?

I'd do it in a second.

The first itself would be a very baluable player (this pick will be a lottery pick), Hoffman is already on pace for more goals than Hall Has ever made, Lazar is a leader and winner and will become a Dustin brown type of player, Lehner is a starter in this league other than the last 10 games or so he's been very good since he's been in the league. I don't really want either Scrivens of Fasth but I guess you'd need to get rid of a goalie...

Hell i'd even give Chiasson instead of Legwand or Smith but I believe you guys could use a big/ experieced center over another young winger. Or a 2nd rounder, but again, do you really want more picks? A guy like Legwand could be a lot more beneficial to EDm.

Is that Hersley guy available to come over asap, or is that a move for next season? If it's for next season I'm not sure it would be such a great idea. Forgive my naivety but I would like to start next season on the right foot with established players, to extend hope of playoffs as far as possible. Now would be the perfect time to see how someone from the Euro leagues would do here.

All this talk of Oilers fans not want Richards is hilarious.

Was it even a year ago the Canucks were looking to unload Luongo and his "albatross" of a contract that would handcuff a team for years to come? The same Oiler fans saying no to Richards were the same Oiler fans who didn't want in on Luongo. Look at Florida now. Oh, they took a chance, weird how actually being ****ing BOLD worked for a team.

I'm not saying Richards is a slam dunk to improve our team (not near as much as Luongo was), sure he could come here and not score a goal all year. But how do you not even try? And don't spew out "Won't touch that contract" BS, because that's all that is, BS.

Free agents aren't going to sign here anymore, our team is now the joke of the league. I'm sure players of other teams have good laughs in the dressing room about our team while sportsnet is on in the background after games. When a players agent comes to them with a list of interested teams at UFA time and they see the Oilers & Bruins, think they will even give the Oilers a thought? LOL

So when these fans say, "NO TO RICHARDS". Just remember, castaways are pretty much the only way this team is going to improve. They are going to have to take chances on players, take the risk of turning ***** into gold. If it doesn't work, you buy him out at the end of the 2016 season. Get over your smartass selves if you think less than 2 million a year for 6 or 7 years is going to make or break this team's future with a 70-80 million cap. It wont. Risks like this are the cost of inept managerial decisions over the past decade.

Some posters will point back to this moment advocating the pickup of a trouble player, as I have with Luongo, next year, only to be ignored just like most posters who have brought up LOGICAL reason why the Oilers need to pick up Richards.

I just want to add, my guess is, Richards probably will be claimed. Probably by the Flames. He will go on to rejuvenate his career as the Flames 2nd line center for the next 5 years while the Oilers are still trying to plug that "next one" rookie into the lineup.

The difference between Richards and Luongo is that Mike Richards is a 4th liner right now. Roberto Luongo was still easily one of the leagues top 10 goalies.

I'm drawing comparisons to the "I wouldn't touch that contract" similarities of these two situations, not the players.

But since you bring this up, Luongo was considered to be on the steady decline. I remembe specific posts outlining "I will not pay that kind of money for a backup goalie", or, "He lost his job to Lack". Sounds awfully similar to "He's a 4th liner" doesn't it? Sure does to me.

I personally think Richards will clear waivers and then be traded in the next week. Teams didn't trade for him because they needed to take some salary off. Lombardi tried to trade him as a cap relief without taking salary back and of course no team will take 5,25 cap hit for the next 5 years for Richards in 2015. Now lombardi is making a last attempt to let hik go without taking salary back but if he can't, Richards will be traded for another bad contract but likely shorter term and less cap hit. Maybe something like Colin Greening in Ott at 2,6 for 2 more years or similar player. That way the Kings save lots of money over the course of the next 5 years and the team taking Richards can breathe a little until his contract;( actual money) goes down to 4,5, 3 and 3 in the last 3 years of gis contract.

There has been a lot of talk about his off season work habits and not taking care of his body.....granted if he played for the Oilers he would have a lot more time in the off season to work out ....

Count me in as one of those people who didn't want anything to do with Luongo. It had nothing to do with his ability today, it has to do with his ability tomorrow.. or the rest of the billion years that remain on his contract.

His contract gets worse exponentially.

As for Mike Richards I have no idea what his contract is with capgeek being down but if it's anything similar then it can GTFO before MacT gets clowned yet again

So you wouldnt want to be in Florida's position fighting for a spot in the playoffs? Because imo we are about a Luongo calibre tender away from that position IMO.

(Not saying Richards would do that for us, strictly WRT the Luongo comment)
