All this talk of Oilers fans not want Richards is hilarious.
Was it even a year ago the Canucks were looking to unload Luongo and his "albatross" of a contract that would handcuff a team for years to come? The same Oiler fans saying no to Richards were the same Oiler fans who didn't want in on Luongo. Look at Florida now. Oh, they took a chance, weird how actually being ****ing BOLD worked for a team.
I'm not saying Richards is a slam dunk to improve our team (not near as much as Luongo was), sure he could come here and not score a goal all year. But how do you not even try? And don't spew out "Won't touch that contract" BS, because that's all that is, BS.
Free agents aren't going to sign here anymore, our team is now the joke of the league. I'm sure players of other teams have good laughs in the dressing room about our team while sportsnet is on in the background after games. When a players agent comes to them with a list of interested teams at UFA time and they see the Oilers & Bruins, think they will even give the Oilers a thought? LOL
So when these fans say, "NO TO RICHARDS". Just remember, castaways are pretty much the only way this team is going to improve. They are going to have to take chances on players, take the risk of turning ***** into gold. If it doesn't work, you buy him out at the end of the 2016 season. Get over your smartass selves if you think less than 2 million a year for 6 or 7 years is going to make or break this team's future with a 70-80 million cap. It wont. Risks like this are the cost of inept managerial decisions over the past decade.
Some posters will point back to this moment advocating the pickup of a trouble player, as I have with Luongo, next year, only to be ignored just like most posters who have brought up LOGICAL reason why the Oilers need to pick up Richards.
I just want to add, my guess is, Richards probably will be claimed. Probably by the Flames. He will go on to rejuvenate his career as the Flames 2nd line center for the next 5 years while the Oilers are still trying to plug that "next one" rookie into the lineup.
