Speculation: RNH for Dumba trade?

Except trading a right handed defenseman who could score as many goals and points as the C you're getting in return kinda makes me feel like we're getting screwed a lot. Screwed out of a potential dynamic player, amd screwed out of a chance at a real, true 1C if one happens to become available.
Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

No.

But better question is whether Nurse can still go back to the AHL without waivers to be protected.

Because if that's possible, with Dumba on the Oilers, I would hope the Oilers would be smart enough to send Nurse to the AHL, and then just run a Davidson-Fayne bottom pairing while giving Nurse top minutes for the year.

He can go back to the AHL without waivers. He's only played 71 of the 160 required NHL games.

Ya, I dont think that Cia-pet is done either.
RNH for Dumba would be a start but as others have said they do need another center.
Would RNH for Dumba and Haula work? Not too sure about that cap hit for Minny.
I also think that they would want a top pairing LHD and not another RHD but with Chia, who knows!

Good thing Dumba has never put up remotely close to RNH numbers over a full season then? What a weird post.

Dumba has also only played ONE full season, where he put up 10 goals and 26 points at age 21. Are we implying he's peaked after ONE full NHL season, or are we smarter than that?

Gotta love the Oilers trading for guys they could have drafted.

Could have kept Hall -> drafted Larsson instead of Nuge -> Drafted Dumba/Murray instead of Yakupov.

Basically what everyone said they should do.

Trading RNH for Matt Dumba would be one of the worst trades Edmonton can make.

RNH must have much more value than... Matt Dumba?:help:

Chiarelli has already said he hasn't done his job if Nurse is in the Oilers lineup next season by default. He believes both he and Reinhart should start down there. All moves have and will be made with that goal in mind.

Coyle would be a dream, but Haula is a sensible option too. The Oilers need a 3C they can lock up for less than 4 million per at term, and I don't think he will cost much more than 3.25. Bonus that he is Finnish and can help ease the transition for Puljujarvi.

Since you've been here '08, can you quote yourself saying any of those things?

I don't think it makes sense for the Oilers anymore. Dumba is not developed enough to slot ahead of some of the guys they already have, so it does not makes sense to deal a top 2 centre for him.

If nothing else Draisaitl can be moved to the wing and they can leave McDavid and RNH down the middle

This...or at least if I'm an Oiler fan, I'm hoping that's Chia's reasoning too.

If the Oilers bring in Dumba, Nurse will be in the minors (where he should be) for one more season.

Klefbom - Larsson (feels weird typing that)
Sekera - Dumba/Fayne
Davidson - Dumba/Fayne
sign a spare part to be our #7

Leaves both Reinhart and Nurse able to stay in the AHL for one more season and (if I understand the expansion draft rules properly) will allow us to protect our top 4 defensemen along with McDavid, Draisaitl, Eberle and Lucic (if we sign him).

I can't see the Nuge - Dumba deal going through as a 1 for 1, nor can I see it happening until we know what's going down with Demers. I said the same about Hall-Larsson though, so who knows.

Still don't think this trade happens. I don't think Fletch is sold on RNH and I think he wants to see what Stevens can do with both Brodin and Dumba. The hope is that both continue to develop and push Scandella or Spurgeon out via trade next year. Dumba has some very hard to find physical gifts - he skates like the wind and has an elite shot. Under Stevens' tutelage... who knows?

*edit* and I don't think Dumba's who the Oil should be after anyway. Dumba's still very much in development. He might be an elite, top pairing D some day but he's not there yet. The guy they really needed was Webber - who knew he was even available?

24 hours ago I would have said Hall has much more value than Larsson. But here we are on a Thursday morning with just that trade to discuss on HF.
So now I want RNH+ Hendricks for Dumba. Except that whole cap thing kind make my want list out of the realm. So Drais for Dumba works for me. ;)

All Dumba is right now: 3rd pairing, PP specialist, protected minutes playing, RHD. All you're buying is his potential. Oilers have enough potential on their team already.

Oilers would be insane (which is questionable right now) to trade a young 1/2C in a 1 for 1 RNH/Dumba swap. Dumba + Granlund would be a better deal.

Oilers should say no to any Wild Dmen except Spurgeon 1 for 1 swap. Scandella and Brodin would be redundant to them now.

I agree that RNH is worth more than Dumba, but you've swung too far in EDM's favor. If Granlund goes the other way, EDM needs to add something, but I can't see MN sending away another top 6 forward, and a reasonably priced one at that. They just let Vanek go..for all his faults, he produced somewhat...now we send away Granlund together with Dumba who also produces points?

Makes no sense. If Haula hadn't kicked such complete ass during the last half of the year and in the playoffs then he would be the obvious add, BUT, I think he is highly valued now, and his 1M salary is too valuable to send away.

As I've said before, Zucker and Kuemper are the obvious adds to Dumba for RNH. EDM gets speed/depth scoring with Zucker, and a talented, albeit inconsistent backup with Kuemper. Both players have the proverbial upside.

Dumba has faults, but also obvious strengths. At 21, it's highly unlikely that he won't improve. Now you've got a shutdown guy in Larsson, you can limit Dumba's exposure to his weaknesses and use him in situations where his strengths are highlighted. Remember, Suter was taking the lion's share of the PP minutes in MN. Imagine what Dumba can do as designated cannon from the back end and a genius like MacDavid setting him up.

Again, not a huge RNH fan, but I don't agree with Russo/Fletcher at all if they indeed think that RNH isn't worth Dumba, or that Dumba is worth the same. RNH is worth significantly more. Add in the fact that RNH plays at a postion of need for the Wild and I'm kind of shaking my head. I mean, it's not like we don't already have a solid top 4 AND a good young offensive Dman in Reilly! Why would we not do this deal?

While i agree that Dumba is mainly about potential, there's nothing speculative about his shot. It's a fraking bomb. And the 26 points while playing limited minutes is no illusion.

Seems that Dumba is overly valued by some, completely dismissed by others.

If RNH is heading out of town we need a centre coming back. Oilers have a need for a good right handed Center. I honestly believe the hold up in the deals is working out what it will take to obtain Charlie Coyle.

RNH + ??? For Spurgeon+Coyle

Or RNH + ??? For Dumba+ Coyle

I understand the plus would be different for each deal, but what would each take?

You won't want to know the answer to this one.

You're not getting Coyle, unless you add something ridiculous.

Why? Is Edmonton still seeking D, When there's a great chance that one of them will be exposed at the expansion draft next summer. Sounds crazy.

I dont think we are

Klefbom Larsson
Nurse Sekera
Fayne Davidson
Reinhart.

A lot of talent there . I leave it as it is and develop it.
