What you think about USA defense and goalies to?
I'm sure there will be people with more accurate opinion possible than mine on the US team - but I do think that Quick will be on the roster, and I would be surprised if Schneider wasn't too, but it seems like Howard might - or might not - get in, Gibson definitely could, and then there is Bishop, who was selected for the World Cup.

In terms of defense, I'm not really sure how's the situation there.

U.S.A roster

Gaudreau-Pavelski-Kane

Pacioretty-Matthews-Eichel

JVR-Stepan-Kessel

Tkachuk-Kesler-Wheeler

Parise, Galchenyuk

The reason I put Tkachuk on LW instead of Galchenyuk is because of how pissed off that line would make other teams. Absolutely perfect grinder/agitator line, lots of drawn penalties I'd assume and almost impossible to strip off the puck. I'd swap Galchenyuk with JVR throughout the tournament (never been a fan of JVRs play)

Suter-Big Buff

McDonaugh-Shattenkirk

Faulk-Carlson

Werenski, Jones

If we could have a 4th D pairing we'd be ****ing unstoppable, but we don't so Werenski and Jones will have to prove they're better than the six above them.

Bishop, Schneider, Quick are the obvious goalies (Schneider probably takes it in 2018)

I'm really liking how hard it is to pick this team now. Couple years ago it would have been cut-and-dry, but there's so much talent coming from the States now that you actually have to think about who to take. The fact that Ghost Bear, Trouba, Fowler, Krug, Carlo, Leddy, and Hanifin are all passed shows how deep our defense is getting. I think this team can compete with Canada next olympics, and may actually be the favorite by 2022.

Boy is it fun to look back at some of these predictions. Yakupov on Russia's top line, Fucale and Subban as Canada's backup and third string, Selanne still playing.

Totally just for fun obviously, I just had a laugh looking back.

U.S. team would be interesting to project as there are several guys between the ages of 28-32 that would still be a possibility. Here's my stab (no really pairings or lines):

Goaltenders (x3):

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider
John Gibson

Defensemen (x8):

Ryan Suter/Justin Faulk
Ryan McDonagh/Cam Fowler
Erik Johnson/Seth Jones
John Carlson/Kevin Shattenkirk

Forwards (x14):

Kane-Stepan-Saad
Parise-Galchenyuk-Ryan
Kessel-Backes-JVR
Callahan-Pavelski-Oshie
Pacioretty-Bjugstad

I can't really disagree except to say Charlie Coyle, Jake Trouba and maybe, just possibly, Chris Kreider.

Actually this is pretty close to what I would do four years later.

Goalies same, Schneider or Bishop are toss ups so whatevs.

Defense: Suter, Faulk, McDonaugh, Fowler, Carlson, yes. Jones probably. Erik Johnson, Shattenkirk probably no. Trouba no. Probably just add in Werenski to the conversation.

Wings: Kane, Kessel, JVR, Oshie, Saad, yes. Pacioretty maybe. Parise no. Callahan... lol. Bobby Ryan... LOLOLOLOL. Backes probably not. Coyle looks like a great call. Kreider has been good but edged out by wing depth. Obviously missed the Johnny Gaudreau train. :shakehead

Centers: Pavelski locked. Galchenyuk if healthy locked. Bjugstad no. Stepan maybe. MIssed the Kesler rejuvenation and the meteoric rise of Auston Matthews.

Lines not really designed for chemistry

Kane- Pavelski - Kessel
Gaudreau-Matthews-JVR
Saad-Eichel-Foligno
Atkinson-Kesler-Wheeler
Galchenyuk-T. Johnson

Suter-McDonaugh
Fowler-Carlson
Werenski-Faulk
Jones

Gibson
Quick
Schneider

No Big Buff? I'd have him easily ahead of any of the RHD you have listed. Pair him with a defense-first guy like Suter and you have a perfect Olympic top-pairing.

Just not a huge fan of him but I won't complain if he's on the team

I would like this lineup

Johansson - Bäckström - Rakell
Nylander - Wennberg - Zibanejad
Forsberg - Backlund - Zetterberg
Sedin - Sedin - Arvidsson
Silfverberg (just outside Landeskog, Rask, Nyquist, Hörnqvist, Burakovsky), please no Kruger, sweden have tons of good 2-way players no need for kruger at all. A player like Backlund is better defensivly, but also offer some offense.

D? Harder, other than, Karlsson, Hedman, Klingberg and OEL that are locks to me, there are many that feels very even. Hjalmarsson, Strålman, Larsson, Lindholm, Brodin, Ekholm fights over 3 spots and they are pretty much all on the same level. The first one to go would probably be Ekholm to me. But still 5 fighting for 3 spots. But today maybe something like this, but leaving Strålman and Brodin out hurts.

Hedman - Karlsson
Hjalmarsson - Klingberg
Lindholm - OEL
Larsson (just outside, Strålman, Brodin, Ekholm)

Nice spot on where you have Zibanejad. I saw some of these roster projections months ago, and very few people had him on the Swedish roster. And if anyone did, he had one of the last spots. He has played so well this season. I didn't watch him that much with Ottawa, but he's been maybe our best player this season, although he's missed a lot of games, so that title might go to someone else. When he plays though, he's been so good. Dominant offensive center who's pretty decent defensively. Ottawa fans have been saying he was not close to this good when he played in Ottawa. Maybe he needed a change of scenery. I don't blame you for not listing the goalies. :help: For everyone's sake, lets hope Lundqvist can find his game.
