Nobody ever has issues making the floor, biggest non-event that gets trundled out yearly.

So not sure how related this is, but the Diamondbacks are allowed to leave their stadium in a few years, and the articles mention they might be looking at tribal land.

Just thought Id mention it as its part of the arena/stadium financing picture in the area.

Mighty Goose posted the related article in the previous page. ;)

Like the Suns they can't move anywhere for several more years. Plus there are three significant reasons for them looking at tribal land:

1) Staying in Maricopa County avoids a heavy penalty.
2) The obvious situation with any taxpayer funding in AZ.
3) Their spring training facility is already on tribal land.

Scottsdale, AZ.
Mesa keeps trying to push the mantra of “The only way to win a Cup is to spend spend spend to the max cap.”

Was just perusing the Cap Friendly and looking at the Cap Hits (which factors in LTIRs and such) the four finalists this year you have Washington and Tampa up there at the max ($74.9, $74.3) but Winnipeg and Vegas are towards the middle ($69.9, $68.7)

As a reference... the Coyotes were at $58.8. But then you look at second biggest spender in Chicago at $77.6 - $2.67 LTIR (Hossa) and they ended up as a lottery team with them.

Never said anything about maxing out the cap! I have always said that in order to win you need to spend money of some kind. To remain at the floor, and in the Coyotes case, technically below the floor, your chances of winning go down. How about spending to the middle of the cap range for a change of pace and with it might come a shot at the playoffs?

Coyotes to Launch 'Weekender' Ticket Plan on Saturday

To quote:

"The "Weekender" ticket package will allow fans to purchase tickets for all Coyotes regular season Friday, Saturday and Sunday home games. The Coyotes expect to have approximately 21 weekend games during the 2018-19 season."

Source: www.nhl.com/coyotes/news/coyotes-to-launch-weekender-ticket-plan-on-saturday/c-298616570

Smart move. With the weeknight traffic out there, the easier drive on weekends might be appealing to some fans. And, if they sell out some weekend games because of this, then maybe some other fans will be pushed to buying tix to a weeknight game, instead, if weekend game tix become scarcer. A potential win, win.

I doubt it moves the attendance needle much...this has been the breakdown of weekday vs weekend games under IceArizona/Barroway...

Of course it won’t!!! Even though we don’t even know everything yet.

:help:

.... well, hang on hang on there TL.... its' I think "helpful". The more weekend & holiday scheduling the better for Arizona & really any other club with a suburban arena location, and of course next to nothing in the way of convenient & quick public transit. So this is good, better. Not by much but its an improvement. Might or might not generate more traffic, better gate. Definitely improves the odds... But as you say, we dont know yet. Too early to tell. Lots of things could happen. Either good things or... very very bad things. Like a repeat of last seasons start through Christmas & beyond. Lets hope not.

I think the league and Coyotes both know the importance of the weekend dates so they’ve done their best to accommodate things.

I’m also sure they’d want 41 weekend games if they could get them but that’s not very practical on a number of levels.

Unfortunately not, no. Its too bad the League cant & wont accommodate any number of clubs in that respect, Pet Peeve of mine. Too many Regular Season Games, too many idiot inconvenient dates, not enough balance. 60 Regular Season is ample, and beyond the 06 teams & others with downtown urban arenas weeknight dates should absolutely be minimized. One size does not fit all.

Thanks for posting those numbers... and without rehashing all of the reasons why attendance anemic.... they are within target range, just short a few thousand from sellouts consistently.... Really a case of so close yet so far requiring some radical surgery to the scheduling, obviously performance critical, need some massive financial injections.... I believe it can be turned around however given the current situation, AEG managing the facility, Barroways threadbare wardrobe... just on & on..... The franchise in park. Treading water. For how long does this continue?

I wonder if the Coyotes have ever tried to ask the NHL to schedule "high value" games during the weekdays? Weekends draw better than weekdays, so leave all the weekend games to the Floridas, Carolinas, etc. and have the original six and divisional rivals play all their games on weekdays.

Don’t think it’d work well IMO.

People here put a premium on being home early. Even the local bandwagons. With many people having a 6am work start and schools around 7:30ish those who have to trek back to the east valley aren’t too keen on it.

Which is one of the reasons why they want to get an arena over there. I’d like to argue that they could have done more to build up the base on the west side of the valley but they seem determined to go east.

I'll never understand why the Coyotes think it'll be easier to convert all of the Chicago and Buffalo expatriates than it would have been to build a fanbase where their arena was. But c'est la vie, that's the bed they're making for themselves.

Based on the 5 years, the average attendance is higher on the weekends by about 1500 which is a small dent indeed.

Have they done these weekend packages before? Otherwise, why would they make a special package effectively discounting games that show to historically to have higher demand?

Desperate for bodies in seats...looks good when asking for that new arena...

how about building that new arena for us, too. Look at the potential revenue!" :sarcasm:

So weekday attendance when most die hard fans attend is pretty much the same and weekend with more casual fans is down 8% so we're at 0% growth with is 2 or 3 different ownership group in those 5 years

. . . too many idiot inconvenient dates, not enough balance. 60 Regular Season is ample .
. .

Agree. With the playoffs lengthened from earlier days to the point that they're almost a second season, the NHL should quit beating up the bodies of their most vital resource - the players - with their exhausting schedule which keeps expanding for no good competetive reason. 70 games would be an improvement; 60 even better.

You know what else that schedule would do? Maybe save a franchise like Arizona. Immediately lowers the salary cap, giving teams on the financial margin a better chance to compete. And if you take the fans now attending Coyotes games, and compact them into a 30-game home schedule, suddenly most of those games are sellouts, or close to it. I know the tradeoff of dropping a game and the fans spreading out to attend other games isn't exactly a one-for-one, but I bet the percentage attending another game would be pretty good.

My apologies....I'm checking in again for my 6-12 month update on this saga.

Is the team staying in Glendale now? I remember Bettman saying it can't and won't.....so.....where are they going? Any construction plans?

Who owns this team now anyway? And how much are they making/losing every year?

It would be interesting to have the NHLPA conduct an anonymous survey question of its membership: Would you take a 10% or 20% cut in your salary in return for a corresponding reduction in the number of games in the regular season?

What do you think the results would be?
