It looks like Galvis is going to be on the move to San Diego at some point today.
It is a good deal for both teams. We get a good young arm and SD gets a mentor for all the young players on that team. I will miss Freddy as he is a very underrated player. Great glove and his bat seemed to get better, plus he was a leader on the club. Crawford has big shoes to fill and I wish him the best.
Give them hell in SD Freddy!!

Williams is unproven, Hoskins is unproven, Altherr has durability issues.
So Klentak may be content to do nothing.
3 year deal = ETA for Randoph, Haseley, Moniak and Ortiz.

I'd think Herrera may be on the move. His value is probably about as high as it will be, and Hoskins will likely move to LF, meaning one of Herrera, Williams and Altherr are out the door, unless they're trading Hoskins while his value is at it's peak.

Herrera and Franco to Baltimore for Machado - boom*
Joking, mostly...

You may be right with Herrera getting moved. The Phils have a man crush on Altherr who would look great in CF. Williams in right and Hoskins in left and that is a stud OF. Getting Santana is one heck of a move. The guy has a great glove at FB and I just love his plate awareness. I would do your proposal in a heartbeat(I know you were mainly joking) but Baltimore is looking to break the bank on any deal and would want more than those two. The Phils still need to do something at second base cause Scott has to make the club this up coming season. Hernandez will be moved just when. Ahh the old hot stove, you gotta love it.:thumbu:

I'm not trading real assets just to have Machado in 2018.
No extension, no deal.

Greinke could make a lot of sense. Diamondbacks need OF and the Phillies could absorb that contract easily.

I'm not trading a lot to get Greinke. I would be willing to eat his salary or include him in a deal that had a good prospect or something in it, but I would not trade a valuable asset for Greinke. He's 34 years old and he is (or at least was) a head case. He's a good pitcher and if this was a team that had a shot at a championship this year it would be different, but this team is still going to suck unless they make a bunch of big moves.

Nobody is suggesting that. Everybody has said you only trade for Machado if there's an extension...

Yeah if you're acquiring Machado there's gotta be a deal in place.

I'm thinking they made this move to officially rule out ToJo.

Herrera should get traded for a pitcher.

Hoskins - Williams - Altherr
Franco - Crawford - Cesar - Santana
Alfaro

Dream would be to trade both Herrera and Franco for pitching and get Manny. Then we would be an Ace away from contending that quick.

I'm surprised Joseph made it this far. I figured he would have been a 40 man casualty.

That's a garbage OF defensively. We'll see how Hoskins does in LF full time, but that just furthers the need for a legit CF with range and Herrera is the only capable guy right now.

if the phillies can get two or three cheap vet starting pitchers and get machado, this team is in contention, not world series but going in the right direction.

Unknown team taking on payroll in trade with Giants. Seems like the Phillies could be involved?

Preference for a starter acquired through trade out of the following: Stroman, Cole, Archer, Fulmer, Duffy, or others?

Stroman would be perfect in CBP--61.1 GB% and 0.94 HR/9 over the past two seasons. I'm guessing that he would be cheaper than Archer and Fulmer?

Id like Archer but he is very cheap and controlled for the next 4 years so the price will be high. Stroman has 3 years till he could be a free agent, but regardless they need to bring in at least another quality starter who can give them 180 innings minimum. Right now and it Nola, and question marks after.

if matt could bring in two or three starting pitchers on a reasonable contract, who would they be?

i mean we won the world series in 08 we didnt have aces, we had good enough pitchers, if matt could bring two or three good enough pitchers, i think we can contend.

I can't determine whether Stroman or Archer would be more costly to acquire. Archer is owed under $31MM over the next 4 seasons, while Stroman only has 3 seasons with payment more dependent on performance. As an extreme GB pitcher, Stroman seems like he'd have more success in a high scoring environment like CBP. On the other hand, Archer has elite strikeout ability, but limiting HRs has been a problem for him...
