Marek sounds odd considering all of Seider, Petry, Holl and Chia have bite.

I see 4 potential areas the Wings could seek upgrade in.

1) Big bodied top 6 winger. Buch really could make sense here with Yzerman's past trading partnership with the Blues and him having 1 more year locked in that we could possibly make work with the cap. This also allows us to slide Ras back down with Copp and Fisher and use them as a true shutdown 3rd line.
2) 4th line center with good faceoff ability. Having another + faceoff guy is always a good bet, and if you add that to Sprong and Veleno I think that would make their line overall better 5 on 5. Copp is the only sure bet FO guy we have. Larkin is overall pretty solid but has runs where he loses a lot. Compher has been a bit disappointing here. This would likely be a cheaper, potentially rental type of pickup.
3) Top 4 dman. Ideally someone you could pair with Chia that would knock Petry, Maata, etc down. With that said I don't know if the Wings have the cap space to land someone to add long term, and if Yzerman thinks Ed can step in and work his way to top 4 by seasons end, is it worth investing that much money into the spot.
4) Platoon goalie to pair with Lyon. Honestly I don't expect this now that both Lyon and Reimer are stringing good games together. Now that the team has recommitted to defense I'm less concerned here. Husso would have to head for this to work, possibly Reimer as well.

I would be surprised if Yzerman doesn't move out at least 1 dman. It is more likely that he'll get interested in one of the bottom 5 now than in the offseason and maybe get a decent asset.

I agree I think adding a top 4 bluelinee makes less sense at the moment, but, I can see us moving 1 in the offseason to create a hole for SE or AJ

I don't see the need for another goalie

I can see us adding a legit top 6 big bodied winger or another goal scoring top 6 winger...a buch or guentzel that is signed or we do sign beyond this year with Buch being the better bet

I don’t think Tanev will cost anything I’d consider a “haul”.

Hes the type of dman that I think an NHL GM will trade more for than you think. I dont think a 34 year old rental is what the wings need though. I tried looking at some dmen with bite that fit the core age group, name I came up with was Jeremy Lauzon. Hes a penalty killer too. Same with Seeler, hes a bit older but plays the PK. I think you can get 18 mins out of either guy, including some PK time but you also get a guy who isnt letting anyone near the goalie.

Dumba, Lyubushkin also fit getting harder to play against but for different reasons I'm not sure about their fits as well.

I wouldnt be surprised if Yzerman is looking for a forward thats tough to play against either. Since Kostin isnt in the line up nightly, I wonder if he would look at someone like Duhaime, who also kills penalties, to get in on the 3rd/4th line more consistently, especially come playoff time

I think Chiarot definitely has the bite Yzerman is talking about. Seider is asked to do a lot so he doesnt do it consistently, but I imagine come playoff time he'll be very hard to play against. Holl and Petry arent soft but they dont have any bite worth talking about. Theyre definitely not soft or anything, but a GM doesnt say I want a tough dman and think of Petry or Holl

A dedicated and loyal vet like Perron could be it. If the last final number number to sign is 1.7M, he will get that. If it's 1.3M, he will get that etc. Rest on bonuses.

I see him as an important leader at the lockerroom right now. They have started talking more and more about it.
Basically the deal they used to give Cheli in the mid to late aughts: he gets whatever is left over once they have signed their key players.

We don’t wanna mess with chemistry
Keep Cat - Larkin - Kane together Line 1

We should trade Fabbri or Veleno to get a skilled top 6er to play with Raymond (vatrano/buch/guentzel) which pushes Ras down to line 3

We should trade one of Maatta, Holl or ghost for an upgrade on D (Ferraro?)

I'm seeing a lot of suggestions that they trade Fabbri. I can't see it happening for a few reasons:

1. His contract isn't great for a guy who gets hurt all the time
2. I get the sense that he's loved in the locker room... don't think they'd want to disrupt the chemistry at this point

How are you getting a skilled top 6 forward in exchange for Fabbri or Veleno? You'd have to include a quality draft pick, which Yzerman shouldn't do.

Look at that, I get source policed even when I post a rumor from a legitimate source.

The Suter call still burns me to this day...
just so we are clear, my post had nothing to do with what you, it was purely to the person making up the story.

Just thought I'd clear that air if it needed to be. Either way, you earned your name and you know it.

I think Veleno + Berggren could get you close to a vatrano acquisition. Those are two guys NHL ready with upside that fit the ducks timeline

I just don't see how you can do anything but try to move one of Maatta, Holl or Petry. Let Ed or even Johansson come up and try to get involved down the stretch but I'm really liking (no shit) how this team has come together. And we still have a waves upon waves of prospects who will be pushing from below in the coming years too.

Obviously if an elite forward or defenseman comes available you do what you can to get him, but until such a player actually materializes I really like where we are positioned.

Idk, maybe if he wasn’t on an expiring deal. If they wanted more than a 2nd rounder and a B level prospect for tanev, I’d tell them to kick rocks.

That's where I'm at. See which of these guys can get the largest haul (not Holl) and then move that player.

Call up Edvinsson down the stretch. He's riped enough in GR playing against future car salesmen.

I wouldn't do any major shakeup at forward or defense. This team is still a large underdog in the first round against any opponent. A playoff appearance is a successful season in its own right.

Although DP’s game isn’t as good as it was you can tell he is an unbelievable leader in that room and beloved. Hearing that quote of him screaming in the room that they are getting 18 points in the next stretch of games and the team going out and topping that speaks volumes.

I love this idea but doubt Kane will take this little. Also would like Lyon and Husso to switch contracts too lol. And Sprong>Perron going forward

Kane has made 115 million dollars in his career. I'd guess at this point he would be willing to take less to help the team out rather than getting the most $$$. Heck, I bet he had higher offers than he signed with Detroit for.

The only bite that Holl has is the one he uses to chew food.

If Kane keeps up PPG and stays healthy he can ask for 6+ million on the open market. Decent chance he's not a Wing next year, as much as I'd like to keep him.

I would extend Perron for 1.5-2 mill. He is still solid bottom 6 guy that is good on the PP. also I would get it done before deadline because I have a funny feeling he’s gonna be awesome in the playoffs.

Yeah, I guess so, I don't think you can trade him, receive a draft pick back and then expect to make the playoffs without other moves made. Which has always been the crux of this argument.

You can trade Maatta, get a pick, and become a better overall team with Edvinsson replacing him.

I just don't think that happens Edvinsson replacing Gostisbehere who's used as a PP specialist not a shutdown defender. Maybe next year with an offseason with coaches, players, staff in-general. Not now in season with 20 some games to go.
why not just trade maatta and ghost...

norrisnick said ghost to tampa which actually does make some sense. Then trade maatta in a package for hanifin (might be tanev unfortunately, but not terrible to be fair). Then you can bring up edvinsson or aljo and whoever you just traded for.

I honestly believe Holl is going to be traded for a pick or prospect at the deadline to a wide variety of teams. Holl can go to a potential playoff contender as a serviceable 7th d that could possibly be needed because another D got injured and they may need that option, or to a team like calgary that has no D prospects, is going to be extremely thin on the blue line after tanev/hanifin are potentially dealt (even andersson, never know). So they need D going back.

maatta + holl + 1st + prospect for hanifin would probably get the deal done. It isn't sexy by any means, but it helps them with getting two stabilized defenseman for at least 1-2 more years to push the can down the road, of which seems like that's what they want to do instead of doing an actual rebuild.
