Who are the other two wingers going to be? Palmieri and Wood?

Ideally, I think those two play on the third line and surround McLeod. Johansson is scrambled eggs at this point, don't know if he'll ever be a key piece for us.

Assuming Mueller develops into a steady defender and they get Santini back on track, 2nd line wingers are the last piece I see this team needing.

Palms is a 30 goal top 6 winger, and Wood is well on his way to being that as well. They aren’t bottom 6ers.

RW as a whole isn’t a deep position the league for high scoring wingers, but Palms still ranks pretty high in that department.

I think the team needs to be formulated like TB, Toronto, and Boston as a top 9 team with high quality 4th liners (that part is all set with Coleman, Gibbons, and Noesen). I don't mean to imply that Palms or Wood are conventional "3rd line" wingers, they're borderline 1st/2nd liners in terms of overall quality.

It would be real nice if Anderson, Seney, or Boqvist could step into that scoring wing role next season.

If Palmieri and Wood are playing on the 3rd line I wouldn’t consider it a slight on them or their abilities; it would likely mean the Devils have a very deep forward group and could steamroll teams.

The way this league is going if you are fast you'll always have an opportunity. I'm just not sold on his overall skill set in terms of being a top 6 forward.
Agree 1000% on McLeod. I was branded as "not a devils fan" when I stated as such when we took him instead of Brown. I think he can be an effective bottom 6 energy player with a speed and a nice set of hands. He's a great puck carrier so he should be a solid possession player, but he lacks the upside you hope to get with a top 15 pick.

I think it all has to do with his confidence being up. He is carrying the puck for longer too now instead of looking to get rid of it right away. Have to believe the coaching staff has helped him get to this point from earlier in the season where he seemed to lack confidence.

Yea like most toolbox guys, he's all about confidence. When he's got it he's a force - but he's got to find a way to be more consistent. I like that he's shooting more since being a scratch, he's still only averaging 1.8 shots per game since then. At a 12-19 goal pace for a shooting percentage between 8% and 13% (his career average is currently 8.3%). So he'll still need to significantly increase his shot output to turn into the 25-30+ goal scorer many were hoping him to become.

Unfortunately, I still see him making pretty low composure plays when he's getting into good areas. It's like the moment he gets to the top of the circles he starts to panic. He's been great in the neutral zone though.

All in all I still see him as a middle 6 C. A guy who can play 2C but who you'd prefer to play as a 3C. He's more or less trending exactly as I expected - I'm not really saying anything that I haven't been saying since he was drafted. Maybe people can finally understand why I said I preferred Barzal without calling me a troll.

Hynes did sound happy with Zacha’s improvement in that interview he did today.

You really want to see him put together, because it is hard not to see the potential he has considering all his tools and physical gifts. He can become quite the player if he figures it out.

Kind of why the pick never really bothered me because at least we know he had and still has high upside.

Like if we took someone like Crouse in that spot I would have raged.

He's at 2.18 shots per game over the last 16 games. So he continues to trend upwards. Still would like more, but I expect we will see more in time.

Nico is at 2.27 shots per game for the season.

Is Crouse still in the league? I never hear from him. :sarcasm:

If we had taken Crouse I would have burned all 7 of my devils jerseys.

Ok 6 of 7. Could never burn you Patty.

If we took Crouse, I would have fired Shero (who had only been on the job for under 2 months) just because he didn't fire Conte before that draft and for not blocking that pick from happening.

Crouse was like the consensus ''DO NOT TOUCH!'' from this board back then. Almost all of us agreed that taking Crouse with that pick would have been a massive failure. Crouse also screamed Conte Special, which I think is why a lot of us didn't want him and were afraid that we would pick him.

Zacha's emergence makes me hopeful we can have a solid 1-2 punch like Boston has in Bergeron - Krejci.

If we can develop McLeod into a Kesler-lite, that could be one of the most annoying center groups to play against in the league.

Zacha made a really nifty play in the neutral zone against Carolina where he toe dragged around a player. Reminded me of Patty on that play

That was real nice. I thought he may have made another nice play right after that too but I may be remembering incorrectly.

he played good last night. threw his body and skated a lil more. made some nifty passes too. if this kid uses his talents and stops being a wuss he can be good. it's mental for him.
