How about if some team offers Marner $10,568,589 for 4 years. That would cost 2 1sts a 2nd and a 3rd. So let TOR match. They'd still be screwed cap-wise at $10.5 million a year and Marner would be a UFA in 4 years.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention their #1 prospect and one of the best goalies not playing in the NHL - GK Elvis Merzlikins
Sorry bro, that’s a reach. “Best goalies not playing in the NHL”? You must have some super secret info on this 25 year old Latvian goaltender that no one has listed in their top 50.

Holy mackerel. If he's asking too much, he can sit. Both sides can use their leverage. Taking it personally (especially when he's not on your team) is bizarre.
You can call bullshit on something without taking it personally. I think this whole dog and pony show is ridiculous, but I'm not taking it personally. What Marner decides to do will not effect my day to day habits. I am allowed to have an opinion on the matter though

Let's get back to THIS team and this roster -

3C candidates -

Plan A - Boyle or Brassard
I guess this is Plan 1A and 1B - Brassard doesn't kill Penalties and struggled in a 3C role in Pitts.

Plan B - Eric Fehr?

In House Option- Tanner Fritz

Top C Prospect - Otto Koivula

Potential Trade (purely speculation):
*Flames need cap space to sign Rittich, Tkachuk, and Bennett, so maybe a deal Derek Ryan for futures? The Flames have other options at C.
*Vegas also in cap trouble, but highly doubt they move Eakin since they have no one who can easily fill that role, they still need to move $ though.

Top 6 F candidates -

In House Options - Beauvillier & Ho-Sang

Trades (players rumored to be moved):
  • Nikita Gusev
  • Jesse Pulijaarvi
  • Jason Zucker
*Tomas Tatar (if Leddy is moved a likely destination)

*Mike Hoffman (another hockey trade partner for Leddy, but with no Panarin more than likely Fla keeps Hoffman)

*Brandon Saad (trade would have to be for futures since Hawks do not need a LHD like Leddy)

Free agency (bargain bin)
  • Ryan Spooner
  • Valeri Nichushkin

I am a bit tired of hearing about the Marner offer sheet thing. Still do not think he would be the best solution to Isles scoring problems. Anyway heard that he does not really want to leave Toronto anyway (at least for now) so I rather wait to see if he is available as an UFA in 4-5 years if his dad gets the term he wanted for Mitch.

Isles need to move on from him and look hard for a goal scorer or potential goal scorer somewhere else (trade within NHL, older player not yet drafted with elite quick release (& skate well), maybe go even as far as some unlikely place to found these players (much like how MLB drafted in Latin America and Euro soccer clubs finds young talents in Latin America and MBA in Africa).

In addition to this, they can try to improve scoring in house with special shooting training techniques by using a combination of video analysis, high efficiency training apparatus, and proven medical knowledge about how to improve hand/wrist agility/strength. Even maybe invest some time/finance in either researching for or develop better sticks including working with hockey stick manufacturers to come up with the best sticks (in terms both durability and advantage) much like how specialised golf clubs can help pro golfers.

Dzingle signs with Carolina 2 Years 3.375 AAV

Honestly kind of shocked that’s all he got and it took this long.

He’s an amazing skater and really good middle 6 player. Good deal for the Canes.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I said on the main boards, and I stand by it. Dzingle isn't much different than the JHS, Tambellini, Shrempf's of the world (all 1 dimensional). He's a great skater and a 1 dimensional player. You stick most guys in the top 6 and they'll do well points wise because they are all skilled at this level. However, he doesn't belong in a competitor's top 6. He ends up on the third line and can't play defensive hockey. He was lucky in Ottawa as they didn't have much talent up front so he got to showcase his skill relatively under the radar. Went to Columbus and was exposed and healthy scratched. He was like that before Ottawa too. The only thing I can say is the contract is very fair for him, but no way he would have cracked our top 6 and he can't play third line hockey. There was no interest from me at all, but at least Canes didn't get raped on the contract.

Yep, I’m pretty convinced we are done this offseason. Very disappointing and weird offseason, if this is it. Resigned our players and switched goalies, time will tell if it was for worse or better. But, we didn’t improve our offense at all and that was our big need.
It feels like it’ll be the same old Islander approach. Call up a young kid, hope he becomes a stud and yada yada. Don’t get me wrong, I think Dobson has elite written all over him but I also believe at this point, you gotta call up someone. It has to be done. I don’t believe any fantasy dream offersheets will happen and I don’t believe a trade is coming, unless we are playing good hockey at the deadline. The only possible trade I could potentially see happening is something involving Leddy. But, I’m not getting my hopes up. The Panarin fiasco really was the dagger for me. It felt so real and obtainable. Mackenzie really was the one who got me all worked up.

Either way, we have Trotz who will make sure this team doesn’t suck completely but honestly? If we go into this season with pretty much the same team, I do expect us to struggle a bit and not be as good.

Not that upset that Lou didn't kick the tires on Dzingel but his signing with Carolina shows how awful some of these other contracts are.
I don't see Eberle for instance as that much better than him as a player and we need scoring more than Leo's leadership.

Disagree strongly, Dzingle has been a consistent 20 plus goal scorer three years running. Back-to-back 56 point seasons. I think you are selling him very short comparing him to those players. None of which scored more than 10 goals in a season.

I wouldn't mind Brassard, while he struggled in Pittsburgh I do think in NY he could rebound because even though he would be a #3c for us he would have a much bigger roll on our team since I do believe while the Penguins kill us for top 6 players, our bottom 6 is much stronger
