Via Willy:

Mooseheads D in the final: Murphy (dislocated shoulder), Weegar (sprained wrist), Duke (groin), Lussier (sick GM 7) and Hardie (sick GM 7).

This makes so much sense now. Val d'Or ran rampant on our defense. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that Ashley and Andrews were also injured.

Congrats to Val d'Or, I hope you smash Baie Comeau.

Val d'Or only had 19 shots compared to Halifax having 43 , goaltending was a big factor in this series.

That's analysis is too simplistic, as has been elaborated on in this thread. The screencaps of goals #2 and #3 say it all; Val D'Or had no trouble taking advantage of poor Moosehead defensive play to get high-quality scoring chances from point-blank range. Fucale never had a chance on those two.

The offside call was damn close. Live, I thought it was offside. I watched the replay a couple of times and honestly couldn't decide if it was or wasn't.

They may have only had 19 shots, but both goaltenders (Fucale and Darveau) were hung out to dry multiple times in the series by the defense. Val d'Or executed on these lapses brilliantly.

its a long season...and a long playoff...i can imagine there were injuries on both sides....but i can guarantee no one played with a dislocated shoulder....slight separation...maybe...there are bumps and bruises that all teams have...imo i still dont think halifax coaching made the right adjustments and utilized there bench as well as VD....i think a short bench thru 7 games caught up to the Moose

Can somebody explain to me how Val D'or was able to get Fraser/Gelinas out on the ice every shift against the Drouin line???

Isn't the whole point of home ice advantage using the last change and getting more desired match ups?

Congrats to the entire Mooseheads organization and to their fans. Great team and a great run these past couple of years. You're a great example to the other teams in the league on how to build a winning team.

A series like this makes me realize just how badly we missed Ryan Falkenham this year.

No kidding. He would've taken a huge weight off of Dom's shoulders as far as penalty killing is concerned. Would've allowed more of our top players to be fresher for 5 on 5 and powerplay and having a defensive specialist would've been huge against Val d'Or.

Falkenham posted on twitter that he is excited to get back next year.

Now on to the draft! Then tryouts! Too long a wait :(

Well he's not wrong really ... The only players to score, or even assist on Foreurs goals so far have been their top 6 and top D... Much like Halifax's bread and butter is their top 6 and first two pairs of D, as it's mostly rookies after that.

Wonder if Drouin and Gadoury will see a ton of ice in the first, so to avoid another terrible start. The Moose don't normally play from behind, usually building a lead and trapping and protecting the lead... Hope they learned some lessons in the first two games to adjust to that style of play, or get out early..

.. And it's Palov* too :)

and so, do you still feel he was right in his statement? Mantha/Henley got 1 point each in the last 2 games…and 3 points combined in game 5 which they lost. Game 6 and 7 goals were scored almost entirely on the Val D'or side from their 3rd and 4th line. Sorry, but Depth will win you a championship. If you/Palov don't realize that halifax was greatly missing the depth up front and on defense that they had last year, you need to check again:)

Will Fucale be back next year? Darveau? Gadoury? Gadoury sure made the quickest jump seen from Junior A to Major Junior. He was a great find, without even a draft pick!:handclap:

Fucale: Yes, and confirmed by Ducharme and Fucale himself when I spoke to him last night
Darveau: Not likely (he didnt seem to think so).
Gadoury: Yes

Darveau and Gadoury will both be overagers next year but when they signed Gadoury he was pretty much a lock for next year as that was the deal. Also they would be crazy not to.

Overagers for 2014/15 season:
Ciampini
Lussier
Hardie
Ryan
Gadoury
Weegar
Darveau

If Weegar stays (doubtful) my prediction is Gadoury, Weegar, Ryan
If Weegar goes: Gadoury, Hardie, Ryan.

Not looking forward to the hunt for a backup goalie again next season. They had a heckuva time finding someone last season and got Darveau at the 11th hour.

Bibeau helps them a lot.

We outshot them most of the time, and while their (better than ours) D forced a lot of low percentage shots, Bibeau was a huge equalizer for them.

As an example, SOG in game 7 was 41-16 Halifax.

Breakdown (HFX-VDO):
G1: 31-23
G2: 33-20
G3: 40-32
G4: 38-35
G5: 42-25
G6: 43-32
G7: 41-16

Now for comparison

Dangerous Shots (HFX-VDO):
G1: 15-15
G2: 20-11
G3: 13-16
G4: 16-13
G5: 22-12
G6: 24-17
G7: 18-5

The trouble with the shot totals, and even the "dangerous shot" totals, is that they don't take score effects into account. Halifax was playing from behind for large portions of games 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7. They also trailed for half of the third period of game 5.

I'd love to see advanced stats for this series. I suspect they'd show that Halifax didn't outplay Val D'Or when the score was close and especially tied. They probably only did so during game 4.

Perhaps you misunderstand me. I am not pointing to Halifax's shot totals as an indication of they played better - quite the contrary. What I am trying to say is that while HFX had plenty more pucks on the net, the dangerous shots were much more even (for the most part).

I am not a statistician by any stretch and no hockey expert either, but I *think* what it could indicate is that while HFX were able to get the puck in the zone and put a lot of shots on the net, they were less capable (on the whole and percentage wise) of creating quality chances due to a more effective VDO defence. And perhaps less capable of finishing on those dangerous shots because of a discrepancy in goaltending (and D) between the teams.

That or I am full of crap and have no idea what I am prattling on about :D

Forward-looking, what would you give as homework assignments over the summer for Mooseheads players or coaching staff? :D

I would tell Vuic he had to watch every video of Stephan Fournier and practice standing in front of the net, and being an immovable nuisance and tipping pucks.
