We’ll have an answer by Wednesday, most likely. Based off of Armstrong’s comments, he had a conversation with OEL addressing Oliver’s stress level and asked him to hang tight, let him handle some stuff with free agency and they will circle back. Sounds like the convo went well. That said, both teams have needs to fill. If the Coyotes in the Canucks are quiet within the first couple days, chances are they are still trying to iron this thing out. If it goes to the third or fourth day in free agency without a solution, you can most likely bet that Oliver stays put.

If you see both teams active within the first couple days of free agency, you can also imagine that this will be over, at least for this year.

If Benning loses out on some of the pieces that he wants in free agency, there’s always a chance he can come back after Oliver’s deadline and see if he is still willing to move. Then we’ll be right back to the staring contest.
Oh god not Wednesday. This is truly purgatory

Don't think the deadline is the problem with not getting a deal done. Both teams have had weeks to sort out their signings such as Markstrom, Krug, etc. and to make their 'best' move for OEL. Plus, for VAN the rumored sticking point has nothing to do with free agents, anyway.

The other issue is that ARI (unlike other teams desperately clearing cap space right now) has no urgency because they are not doing this to bring in a big name in FA or to resign other players on their roster or to fend of potential offer sheets. So they will likely wait out any deadline unless some offer comes through that is so good they quickly accept only because they are afraid it might be withdrawn. If the deadline were at the end of FA, VAN/BOS would probably hate that uncertainty even more because it really restricts what they can/should do during free agency.

Yeah, makes sense for this to drag on for a bit, at least until a few prime UFA pieces have been taken off the board to get things going.

If they fire Tocchet and Housley, Coyotes fans will be unanimously thrilled to keep OEL. It’s only morons who don’t actually watch him play hockey that think he’s bad. Those of us who watch him play would be thrilled to keep him, if it means we can dump our garbage coaching staff.

The sad part about all this is that Vancouver was so focused on OEL trade that they might have lost Markstrom in the process. I would not be surprised if they end up without OEL and Markstrom at this point...

No.... benning has been trying to sign markstrom for the past 3 weeks. The reason why he’s not signed yet apparently is because of no expansion draft protection.

I've been on the trade Ollie train for a while because he doesn't look happy, and they should blow it up. But if the choice is between give him away or enjoy OEL, his contract, and get a new coaching staff... Sign me up for the latter.
I promise I will enjoy OEL's contract more than whatever Benning hands Barrie for seven years!

Please Benning. Just walk away. You're the only player left in this most likely if Boston is hesitant, and even if they are still in it you have leverage. Don't blow your load, just f***ing walk away.

Yea, f*** Wednesday. . Get up from the table Jim. . If we don’t make a splash in free agency, take a down year. . Don’t sign any big, stupid contracts and save the cash for the guys that deserve it

This is such a unique scenario.

Canucks want to improve defence, obvious weakness but currently stronger on left side than right.
OEL's name comes up as moveable, Jim does his due diligence and calls to inquire. Ultimately it would be a luxury pickup that addresses overall team defence, but isn't a fit to pair with Hughes and is another lefty.

Ekman-Larsson's camp states that he'll only accept a trade to two teams. One being Vancouver.
Now Jim has been scrambling to make it work...

It's like, obviously we're not going to pay full price for a player that is anything less than a perfect fit for our lineup, especially one who has a massive contract and has only permitted trade talks with two teams.

Jim has to walk away if they want anything resembling full value for OEL, it just doesn't make sense...
Like, if they're insisting on Demko or Podkolzin/Hoglander, 1st, etc.
Just use those assets to get a player that better fits your roster... or, y'know.... keep 'em.

Do you guys prefer OEL + a few ditched bad contracts for a prospect or two, or do you want Jim Benning unchained in free agency?
