Hopefully Julien can have a positive impact on him going forward like he did with Pastrnak in Boston. If he stays in the AHL with those dummies, he will be ruined

Collberg? Thrower? Vejdemo?

:help:

He didn't say that all prospects who don't play under Lefebvre are good, he says that the ones that are good, did not play for Sly. And pretty much every player who has played for him have been underwhelming.

Sherback has so much skills and a good hockey sense. I'm not giving up on him yet. For me there is no way he doesn't become a top 9 player. Another year in the AHL or even in the KHL come be good for him. He also needs to gain strenght.

yeah I don't know where to stand on him. The criticisms are definitely worrying but the progress seems legit. There's a lot to like but nothing ever seems to work for us so I'd just assume he busts lol. he won't be a saviour but he could at least be a help.

Hmmmm, no.

After he was drafted I remember watching him on tv at the WHL - Russia Subway Series and I said something to the effect of him being at least a year and a half away from being NHL ready and this board was almost ready to burn me at the stake for being a heretic.

Hmmmmmm, yes.

I'm talking about people who actually know what they're talking about, not HF posters who look at hockeyDB stats and watch YouTube videos 2 weeks before the draft.

Direct quotes moments after the Habs selected Scherbak at the 2014 draft:

Bob McKenzie: "The projection is that when you put Scherbak with really good players at the next level that he could really take off. However, scouts wonder whether he is more of a project. It is a high reward pick, but it is a high risk pick as well."

Pierre McGuire: "They'll take their time with him. There's no rush because he will take some time to develop. He needs to get stronger."

I'll take the opinions of those guys over HF scouts any day. He was 100% a project when he was drafted.

For me, he is a Perezoghin 2.0

I was a big Perezhogin fan, got to see a good bit of him in Hamilton, they don't really compare as Perezhogin was a good 2 way player that used his speed and shot well. Scherbak is a playmaker that is more of a PP specialist then 2 way player.

I hope he's better than Avtsin.

Scherbak had 1 less goal this year then Avtsin had points at the same age in the AHL. In their careers, Scherbak in less games has almost double the points. I watched a lot of Avtsin, he would skate around with the puck trying to go through 2-3 guys only to end up doing nothing. Scherbak was one of the IceCaps top players after Lindgren, Terry and Hudon. Big, big difference between the two.

Scherbak is a project and has consistently progressed. Il say he develops into a middle 6 scoring winger.

You could easily find A TON of similar quotes for past busts, doesn't mean anything.

edit: Didn't realize you were replying to an argument, your post makes sense. I'm personally not convinced the "project" is heading where we want it.

People needs to be patient, he is what 21 years old ? I would be in panic mode if he was 24 but give the guy a chance, he is not progressing like we would want but at least he is progressing. He played with the Habs this year and I'm pretty sure he will have a top 6 chance next year.

There's been improvement for sure in Scherbak's game but the problem is the consistency, as one night he's one of the best players on the ice and the next he'll do something really stupid that just leaves you shaking your head. I don't really have a problem with his skating, just think he needs to improve his lower body strength.

I was super high on Scherbak and had every reason to be.

Unfortunately, Lefebvre got his hands on him and we are seeing what we constantly see with Lefebvre. Pure and utter stagnation of a prospect where their strengths didn't improve and neither do their weaknesses.

With Lefebvre strongly rumored to be returning, I am going to throw my card in and say he will be a bust .

He'll probably just end up another crappy 1st round pick by this team. Add him to the long list.
