Feels like one of those three-team hf proposals where everyone loses.

Pens were already as all-in as a team can be so **** it, might as well.

Seems like they barely had to give up much for EK so I like it for them.

Don't think there's much negative to say about this from a Pitts POV but I guess what would scare me a bit is you got 82 games out of Crosby and Malkin last year and still missed the playoffs.

Getting those two that healthy two seasons in a row + EK not regressing to where he was 2 seasons ago (and staying healthy himself) + Jarry staying healthy + Letang staying healthy is a lot of things that need to go right.

Wonder if EK65 can keep the magic running next year

If he drops to a 60-70 pt player might be tough for the pens unless he works the defensive system well within the pens

Still they have a team more likely to be able to win a playoff series now then before just a lot of factors

- Injury luck (very fortunate last year for 87 and 71)
- Decline on aging players (their core)
- Jarry not costing them with sieve like goaltending again (2021 vs isles and 2022 game 7 vs NYR)

Think the pens if they are having a good season should look to add a speedy winger with finishing next deadline. The team could get faster as none of their core guys are fast players at this point

Also because aside from last season, Karlsson was an injury-prone 40 point offence only defenceman making 11.5M, not a high market for that.

They had to trade him while there was still at least 1 team interested.
He is not injury prone.

He had a broken thumb, you can flush your toilet and break your thumb.

He had a lingering groin injury that as hockey fans should know can hamper you for a bit. He is obviously well past that if you watched him last season.

He had a torn akillies way back when.

For the most part EK has played pretty healthy. Of course a guy isn't going to force himself out there every game on a bottom feeder if he doesn't need to be out there. Last season he knew he was on his way out, Grier allowed him play his game and increase his value and you seen what he was all about.

More sour grapes from you

Pittsburgh is better with Karlsson but over half their team is over 30 already and now they are locked into quite a bit of money with Karlsson, Letang, and Malkin

The team unloaded 5 30 year olds this offseason

Dumo
Petry
Granlund
DeSmith
Rutta

They are actually getting younger while retooling. Dubas is doing all the things Hextall should have been doing last summer.

Grier is using retention slots on Burns and Karlsson and didn't seem to get a single meaningful piece back in either trade. That Pitt 1st is pretty much it. Both deals were complicated by NTCs and I guess they had to go but man that's rough, both players are legitimately useful pieces.

People saying the Pens are messing up their future "rebuild.........Lol...,.....future rebuild?

A team isn't rebuilding with Crosby/Malkin on it. The future rebuild won't see any success for 5-8 years if they are lucky. Giving up a 1st now means nothing on that front.

EK is the highest impact player they could have brought in and makes everyone on that team better.

Rebuilds sound cool until they don't. Just ask some of the many "Rebuilding" teams out there
I do think we need to think about a rebuild. And I'm thrilled we kept Pickering, Yager and all future 1st rounders beyond next year. I think Dubas played this as well as he could. Go for it now, but not completely mortgage and pillage future 1sts.

Claims he isn’t injury prone and then describes an injury prone player.

That was funny to read.

Aside from last season, he’s never played 60 game since leaving Ottawa. What’s the anomaly, the one season he wasn’t injured or the 5 prior seasons he was?

the defense just got way better this offseason.

Dumo - Letang
Petts - Petry

Petts - Karlsson
Graves - Letang

The top four is substantial better. And actually younger overall lol

Pens are in no mans land.

Not a contender, no assets to build a contender and absolutely nothing for future.

Going to enjoy that
