He can't sign right now even if both sides agree. Leafs don't have any money. The only way he can attend camp is if he pays his own insurance and he isn't going to do that. They have to wait until October 2nd to sign Mitch. Thats when the LTIR money will kick in. So don't expect anything for 3 more weeks.

No. LTIR can be used on the last day of Training Camp to be cap compliant rather then day 1 of the Regular Season on October 2nd.

Leafs are free to sign Marner right now.

Leafs probably have to move one more player to fit him under the cap.
It is a possibility, but right now they can have over 10M in LTIR that can be used, but more than what is available or to fight an offersheet, they might.

No. I don’t.
You are sticking to a libelous statement you made about Matthews? Just have Marner use Matthew's contract as a comparison. Rather than a fictional story about a heist Matthews pulled off sometime in the past obviously before he became an NHL player otherwise we would know about it.

The nhl needs to allow ltir money not to impact situations like this. Now the player wony be in training camp abd it hurts him and the team

Why is only ONE of those allowed to be used as a comparable to Matthews?
Who said only one is allowed? Frankly, neither are great comparables for Matthews.

Matthews still fit somewhere in between over EIGHT years.
He still would. Just not as below McDavid as you want because:

1. You ignore how great Matthews is.
2. You ignore the contexts of their signings.
3. You ignore that McDavid has arguably the best post-ELC contract ever in the cap era, and that even if Matthews' contract isn't as good as his, it doesn't mean that Matthews' contract is bad.

And the leafs have one D locked up after this season.
Yes, their best one. And another that's an RFA. And they have the space to sign at least one of the expiring of their choosing. And they have two of the best defense prospects not in the NHL that are knocking at the door.

There is no evidence that the Leafs will struggle with their D, and they have tons of options moving forward if they do.

And let’s be honest... his stats were MUCH closer to a Eichel’s than to McDavids
This is not true.

LTIR isn't holding Marner back from the training camp, Marner is doing that all by himself.

I was tricked in this thread by the title, willing to bully some leaf fans. But it's about this same old Marner stuff. Let's rest the topic until summer 2020. :boredom:

If he's superstitious like Crosby, he'll wait until thread #16 to sign.

Technically this thread is at 13,717 with this post, so we should be onto the next one in 283 posts. Even higher if you count the other Marner contract threads or if the rumoured "8.5" exists (didn't see it in the search).
