Gallagher likely won't be expendable until there's about 3 years, or less left in his contract.

Hopefully Gallagher scores 20 this year. Unless he improves, he's likely the odd man out.

Though, that's in the scenario both Scherbak and McCarron make the NHL and play well.

Not a high probability imo.

Unless his play falls off a cliff, he won't become expendable at any point. He's a core member of this team.

Trading a guy like him would send the wrong message. Even if both Scherbak and McCarron panned out, keeping Gallagher on top of them both would leave us with 3 top 9 wingers. Why would we need to trade any of them?

Plus Devante Smith-Pelly.....I'm thinking they put Scherbak on left side with Galchenyuk and Gallagher, this line would be sick.
Then you have a Pacioretty, Pleks and McCaron first line....it gets sweeter. Third line is Prust, DLR and DSP....yikes, gotta love where this team is heading!!

Forgot about DSP... Even then, McCarron can play C and, as you pointed out, Scherbak can play LW.

Whatever happens, I doubt Bergevin ever thinks about moving Gallagher. Not the way he's been playing ever since he got to the NHL. He brings a lot more than just points to the table.

Still would make sense for them as they could re-unite this year's Knights offense with Domi and Dvorak already in the farms. The possibility of drafting Marner. Why not add McCarron while you're at it :P

Thought it was funny that the link in the link links to another link that links to another link but anyways. Last summer there were Houston Astros' internal data about trade talks that leaked on the internet and teams talk about trading everybody to every team. Probably nothing more than that. Every team asked for the other team's top prospects and proposed junk in return.

Bob mckenzie was on a local radio station and said he heard of no such thing (mccarron for michalek), and also added that this type of deal does not fit the bergevin mould.

Just thought I'd throw that in.

All Bergevin cares about is getting big players who can skate and have a chance to play in the top 6. He said the only way to get them is through the draft because trading for them is impossible.

And now we're supposed to believe he's going to trade one? Ya.. doubt it.

The rumor makes no sense at all, it's mind boggling how it even picked up some steam.

It's simple really. Site desperate for hits and ad revenue puts out intentionally controversial trade candidate knowing full well bad publicity is better than none.

What they don't factor in is that there's only enough room for one Eklund and people are already sick of the one they have and will likely put their site in the "unreliable source" or "clickbait" territory for the remainder of their existence.

Congrats gohabsgo, enjoy the 30 cents of ad revenue you gained at the expense of any credibility, kudos.

That's what the Gen's coaches and NHL scouts also said about Tyler Biggs, another big man first rounder. They hype their size and strength but then refer to their speed and hands "as something they need to work on". If you can't skate and lack hands, why waste a 1st round pick ?

You can't teach "good hands" and a player's speed can only increase marginally at best between 18 and 23....especially the big bodies.
Well guess what, McCarron has pretty good hands and pretty good speed.

Gonna go ahead and guess Pheonix asked for McCarron when Montreal asked about Michalek.
MB then laughed as he hung up.

This was a report by Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal.

No it wasn't. And this isn't the first time gohabsgo.com has said the report came from elsewhere despite it never happening. They literally make this **** up and say so-and-so reported it.

Funny, he just traded one away in Sekac.
So Anaheim would have traded for one (actually 3 if you include Kesler and Silfverberg).

Just saying...

Montreal has been dreaming for a player like McCarron. No way he is traded.

Do we value him too much after being so small for so long?
We would certainly move Mac if the right player became available.
You can't win a Stanley Cup with prospects.

I love the potential but don't agree to the closed mindedness.
We have to entertain all offers even if we know full well we do have 2-3 untouchables.
I don't agree that a prospect other than a generational talent is.

That pre season game vs the Bruins that McCarron had made me realize what this guy could potentially be for us down the road.
The year before was disappointing because he was bouncing off smaller guys in the pre season and didn't know how to use his size, follow up with a crappy year in the OHL..
but after THIS pre-season + the season he is having in the OHL.. whole different story! DO NOT TRADE HIM right now.

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Edmo...+Jeff+Petry+likely+higher/10842943/story.html

The Canadiens covet Petry to play with Alexei Emelin on a second defence pair in the wide-open East, where there is no clear-cut Cup contender threat. They may not want to deal their two young defencemen, Nathan Beaulieu or Jared Tinordi, in any deal for Petry. They reportedly have offered their 2013 first-round pick, winger Michael McCarron (25th overall) to the Coyotes for the shutdown D Michalek.

Martin McGuire commented on the news and said Matheson actually has credibility.
