Would love to sign this kid to a 4 year deal this offseason. Lock him up as at worst a bottom pairing dman and if turns out to be a top 4 in a couple years player then you have him at a bargain for a little.
He has certainly benefited playing bottom pair and 16 mins a night, I'm curious to see what he could do with a heavier workload. (last couple games have shown well)

Upcoming rfa right?

What would you offer?

I think a 4 year 10 million dollar deal would work

Prob trade Mcquaid

He can pronounce it Noriega for all I care, as long as he keeps playing and developing the way he has.

Our former GM mispronounced his name too, but only a few called him out on it.

I was not high on Grzelcyk after seeing him a couple of times as BU. And Providence. But he has surprised. Looks to be a solid D in every aspect of his position.

I'm thinking something similar to what Pelech signed last year on the NYI. His was 4 years 6.4 mil (1.6 per).

Pelech last year - 44 games, 10 pts, 16:50 Avg TOI
Grzelyck so far this year - 48 games, 14 pts, 16:05 Avg TOI

4 years 7.5 mil?
Years 3 and 4 could be huge value if a 27/8 year old Grzelyck turns into a top 4 guy

Although now looking at their experience, Pelech had 1 full year pro more than Gryz so perhaps that goes in Gryz's favor. Maybe just meet and the middle 4 years 8 mil and call it a day

I just think surveying the market (and his demand on the trade market), he won't settle for something cheap like 1.5 million per season.

Mcquaid is receiving about 2 million per season? and Grz has basically taken over his job. So he should be compensated similarly plus a bit more due to inflation

If not 4 year 10 million ... I think he could sign a 1 year extension then become a UFA after next season (which would stink)

McAvoy, Carlo, Grz are three players I would like to lockup asap

With the smurfs
50 games and you guys are going to hand out millions.

That's what smart GM do. You see the talent and pay it now so this is a bargain compared to what it could be if you only decide to pay later.

Look at Josi. Nsh signed him to a 28M/7y deal after his ELC when he played the 1st year in AHL then getting 17 and 18pts in years 2 and 3. After signing his deal, he exploded with seasons of 40, 55, 61, 49pts and has already 46 this year. You think his Cap hit would be 4M for two more season had Nsh waited to pay him?

As for Gryz, anything under 2M for 3-4y is a HR by Sweeney. Perfect 3rd pairing puck mover behind Krug and McAvoy.

Well if you think he has the potential to be a top 4 guy SOON, then absolutely. It's either that or a cheap 1 or 2 year "prove it wasn't a fluke" deal, then you risk that maybe you pay him 4 mil in a year rather than having him locked up cheap.

Hell, 3rd pairing guys on our team are paid over 2 mil, why not him for around that price?

I'm very curious to see how he handles playoff hockey and for this little stretch now with all the injuries.

If he continues to step up and just play good solid hockey...Im all for paying up on him. Otherwise, if it ends up looking like it's too much for him or needs a little more time, then I still wanna give him another year in the NHL before really wanting to throw a bigger $2 million per year type deal.

Have absolutely loved his game so far this season...he has converted me...was skeptical at first due to his size.
Who knows, maybe he will get a little more confident and his offensive game will flourish. Guy has put up solid offensive numbers in college and in Providence.

edit...also a +23, love seeing that

There has been zero indication he will deviate from his game and collapse

He has not only barely made any bad plays/turnovers, he looks like a vet that hass beenbin the league for 5 seasons now

He will continue trucking along imo

Pressure has not phased him thus far

He has shown good leadership skills

He's been a little sheltered (Gets a fairly low percentage of defensive zone faceoffs, ice time against opponents' top lines is limited), but IMO, he's been a big part of why the Bruins' have become a very good team. For the past several years, the Bruins' top line/defense pairing has usually been very good, but their 3rd pairing/3rd line/4th line have been getting dominated. That's changed this year, and guys like Grz are a big part of it.

liked what I saw from Krug and Grz as a pair on the PP

puck was moving really nicely

on a side note, what a nice luxury to have Rick Nash and Backes on the PP at the same time. Two heavyweight players like that, goalie can't see anything. Also Ds have handfuls to deal with. More room for the perimeter guys to work with

If you have faith in the guy, it's better to pay him millions now than tens of millions later. I think he's looked terrific all year long, if he can be a solid 3rd pairing guy I have no problem paying him. He's young and will continue to grow into the role, maybe exceed it.

He’s playing so well that I’d reduce Chara’s minutes until the playoffs to keep him rested, it’s not like we’re fighting for a playoff spot and Gryz has been better with more ice time. I say let him run with it.

Holy shit that shot map is INSANE.

Gryz avg. min on D last 5 games pretty amazing

Him and Carlo have been huge without Z and McAvoy

Answer McQuaid is paid 3 million and the cap hit is 2.75, pricy third pair or 7th in the depth guy that will probably sit when Mac is back. Good insurance this year but I assume he will be gone next year

I have to eat crow when it comes to Gryz. I am one of the ones that voiced his displeasure with taking undersized college guys. I didn't like this puck but am sure impressed at the scouts vision and/ or the Providence Bruins development ways. Bring on Donato if he turns out like that too as he was another pick I didn't care for. Just shows I know less than I thought I did.

He has been a huge surprise. I think he can fill Krug’s role better, eventually. He has stepped up big for this team with all the injuries throughout the season.
