I am still a bit bummed that Lehner got traded... What am I going to do his Rookie Cards Collection? Hmmm, Buffalo fans might be interested
If it was Bishop for Conacher and his playoff series straight up it would be terrible trade.
Is that really significant - When you think of the overall package? Usually when you trade for someone young , you would like for them to contribute for the longer term, no? You and your extremely positive outlook is grasping at straws trying to convince yourself that because of 6 games played in the post-season that takes away something meaningful from a potentially terrible trade depending how Lindberg turns out.
You still don't get it, and it's not even about being positive. I'm not even what you can call a "positive person" in life and I'm working everyday on trying to be more positive because that's how you achieve better results. No, the difference is I might not be a cynical zombie who can only see 1 side of the medal because I have the discernment to see both sides of the medal.
NO ONE said that trade was a "WIN" (I don't even see trades as wins or losses but more as "hockey trades", it's you people that have that kind of fascination for HF porn); but it's really not as bad as some people try to make it sound when they use the words "terrible" and "disastrous"
It really sucks that Conacher faded away promptly but the only REAL cost in all this was a 2nd rounder, who turned into Bishop, then turned into Conacher and a 4th (which turned into Lindberg)
AND,
you can only play 1 goalie at a time in nets. We have now Anderson, Hammond, O'Connor, Hogberg and Driedger. Just traded Lehner because we still had too many goalies...
In what world is it "disastrous"? Sorry, but for me being cynical is being stupid. You can disagree if you want, it doesn't change anything.
Anyway, my friend "Senateurs" said it best :
Obviously, Tampa won the trade because they needed a #1 goaltender and got it. At least we got one asset that was instrumental in winning the only playoffs series this organization won since 07, and a draft pick that looks very promising.
Let's not forget both teams were trading career AHL'ers with unknown potential, both over 25 yo. Conacher was top scorer of his team. It looked like a very good deal for Ottawa.
Yeah, I remember people were ecstatic about that trade around here so it's very concerning to see the hypocrisy now. Bishop and his "gigantic 5-hole" were heavily criticized when playing for Ottawa and people originally whined that BM gave a 2nd rounder to get him... Do we need to dig the threads? Yeah, always the same story around here, people writing checks that their ass can't cash.
Made a lot of sense at the time. Go find and read the threads from when that trade happened, most Sens fans were ecstatic.
Hindsight is 20/20
Funny that you wrote that because I just used the same term and I had not read your post when I wrote it down. Means it's pretty accurate
