Not sure why any FA with any sort of options or negotiating value would sign with Detroit right now. Detroit is pretty much a reclamation project or "one last contract" type destination all things considered with the state of their organization.

Especially since Zetterberg is likely hanging them up as early as this summer, Detroit is likely to get worse before they get better

Not sure where you're getting Zetterberg hanging it up as early as this summer, It's known that he'll probably play one more year and then hang it up in 2019 and he only said that if his health is an issue he would hang it up and supposedly two teams in on this guy are Buffalo and the Rangers got news for you neither one are any better then Detroit right now.

Winnipeg has confirmed they have signed C J Seuss the captain of Minnesota State to a contract with their AHL team Manitoba Moose.

Perhaps 2 Mavericks this week? Jets have a spot for a LHD and provide a lot of positives for him.

Who cares. These signings never turn out.
Aston-Reece has been pretty good for the Pens when called up.

Kerfoot has had a great first season with the Avs

Kevin Hayes has become a core part of the Rangers top 6.

Butcher has been awesome for the Devils.

Pionk has been pretty darn impressive for NYR since his call up.

Vesey has been a consistent player for NYR. Not top 6 but still maintained a role on the 3rd line.

These are just a few names which have shown it does work out.

Conor Sheary has had good years. Obviously not this year, but he had 53 points in 61 games last year.

Anyone else keep thinking that Brickley is right-handed? I keep thinking he's right-handed but he's left.

I get what your saying, but Hayes, Vesey, Kerfoot and Butcher were all drafted but used the loophole in the CBA to become a UFA.

Pionk and Ashton-reese were true UDFA. Some other notables in recent history Jason Blake, Tyler Bozak, DeKeyser, Torey Krug, Chris Kunitz, Teddy Purcell, Conor Sheary, MSL, Andrej Sustr, Chris Tanev and TVR.

Not an expansive list of UDFA from the NCAA and these signings usually end up going south, but some quality players can be found.

Have to think Avs have a decent chance, given that both College signings from last year have been given an opportunity and succeeded to find a spot on the roster. Open spot for the #5-6 LHD, and not much competition for the #4 with Nemeth in front.

I'm curious to see if the Penguins are one of the finalists. Brickley is the type of player that the Penguins were consistently finalists for in recent years, they were close with a lot of guys like Schultz, Reilly and Vesey. That has seemingly changed in recent years though, with the Penguins pulling off bigger fish like Aston-Reese, Bengtsson and Johnson.

Their defense is trash, so Brickley could have a great shot at getting into the NHL quickly. The Penguins also have excellent D coaches with Gonchar and Martin, which has yielded some big contracts for defensemen in recent years. Brickley could just look at Justin Schultz and conclude the Pens can help him make a lot of money.
