No thanks .....
Whether you like that opinion or not it is the truth. Oilers are the premier team in the premier city of Alberta. Half of your arena were Oilers fans cheering on a bottom 5 team and you know deep down the opposite would never be the case. Oilers will take care of Calgary and the residents there as they are doing a good job right now with a bad product at the moment and during the decade of darkness. NHL needs more large markets and for the financial viability of the Oilers and flames to survive in the future, they can't be competing against each other for the market share here. Oilers have a leg up on everything flames, more sacred franchise, more superstars past/present, championships, arena and 1st overall picks ( :skull: )... just more of/ better everything and if someone has to go it is the flames no doubt about it.

Minus the LRT it is probably more accessible for the people in the SW, NW and deep SE than our arenas current location ....

Won't happen for another 34 years guaranteed. Flames are behind the 8 ball. Facts make your wish on existent so who really cares about it. Flames are on the back burner and have been in Alberta from the get go. Oilers are albertas team and will be in all of our lifetimes. #BringBacktheAlbertaOilers
The city of Edmonton is on the back burner in this province , don't worry about it though we will get an arena and the Flames will stay here and you can wake up everyday in Edmonton and be happy :)

So no park and rides? You have to drive all the way down there and back from a game? Would get tiring, especially with a bad product and traffic in and out of the casino resort/arena before and after every game.

LRT to the arena with the ability to drive there as well make it accessible to everyone in the city, this is the same mistake the sens made as well as Glendale and sunrise. Pretty desperate if you ask me.

The Flames are desperate to have the city of Edmonton and whistler join in on a bid for the Olympics with the benefit of getting funding for your new arena. I say screw that and go pound sand. Doesn't sound like backburner type of anything....

If the truth be told for the vast majority of people that go to games it is probably closer and easier to get to than downtown ... I'm sure park and rides would be set up at various locations around the city for events by Calgary transit .... it is actually very doable ... the only people that it would affect negatively would be the people in the Northeast .....

Flames are already having troubles selling out the arena with an arena that is centrally located, so to eliminate/alienate a portion of the fans from a team that already struggles to gain interest makes no sense what so ever and is obviously a poor business strategy.

Calgary city councilor Dru Ferrell said that to get provincial money for the Olympics we have to include Edmonton in the bid .... so in other words the province is forcing us to include Edmonton , which nobody wants ... I'm sure the mayor of Edmonton talked to the province because I know we did not nor want to include Edmonton .... and so far as our arena issue is concerned it has nothing to do with your hockey team or city ..... why is it that Calgary's business is always meddled with by the city of Edmonton and its people ??? As a Calgarian I do not know nor care(not in a bad way) about Edmonton and its affairs , why are you so concerned about my city and hometown ???

Look at the specific taxes and everything associated with our arena deal and they are not the same as why ken king proposed to nenshi. Business around gets taxed more because of more business. We get taxed on our tickets and the property values raised around the arena therefore raising more taxes too. The revitalization levy is a surplus building bigly things in our city... it's a win-win. Our deal also includes $2illion in investments and devolopment currently getting built around the arena with more investment incoming in the not too distant future. Edmonton and Calgary are not much different at all. I lived there quite enough for work and school to come up with an unbiased opinion on this matter.

oh im sure ur opinion is unbiased. Keep coming up with ways to justify ur billionare owner bending over ur city and u guys still go support him. :thumbu:
At least city of calgary has balls not to let billionares bend us over like Edmonton and if that causes them to move so be it. Calgary has other things. Edmonton is just the Oilers.

Calgary doesn't have other things though lol. It's boring, 19th ave is boring, downtown... boring.

Katz has done lots of good for the city even though the process to get everything done was a mess, although less messy that that in Calgary.
lol Katz is f***ing scum idk why ur defending him like hes ur dad. Its fine if u wanna support the team no need to defend Katz. Likewise Flames ownerships also scum

Listen, I get where, as two very similar cities in this province, we will constantly compete with each other but for any citizen of either city to wish the other doesn't have an NHL team is pathetic or mock a city that made some sacrifices to ensure their team stays is just wrong. We should be hoping for more teams in hockey markets not less.

I hope the Flames never win the Cup :) but I never want Calgary to lose the Flames... hope they can work out the arena issue.

No one is wishing such a thing. The arena will be built if the owners and the mayor/ citizens want it. It is just a reality.

The Mayor and the citizens want a new arena the issue is who pays for what ..... I think the city of Edmonton made the right decision , they over paid for sure but in the end it was the right thing to do for their city .... I look at it like this ..., I pay taxes to this city for infrastructure that I do not use and this new arena is a part of the infrastructure which is going to get helped paid for by private investors , unlike our new 200 million dollar library , peace bridge , LRT which obviously enhances the quality of life for a lot of people ... I believe a gathering place for the citizens of our city enhances the culture and quality of life ... I hear a lot of people say that these billionare owners have enough money and should pay for it themselves , well , our billionare owners have locally employed and brought a lot of commerce locally over the years to the benefit of everybody directly or indirectly in this city , a lot more than our hypocritical Mayor has or ever will .... and so far as our Olympic cheerleading Mayor is concerned he has no problem funneling our tax money to the IOC so they can make hundreds of millions .... I say forget the Olympics and use a lot less of that money to help build a new arena and stadium that the citizens of Calgary can enjoy for the next 30 years ...

Dude...

Lets not compare fans in arenas as a barmeter for if a team should stay in the nhl...k

Obviously he has business ties. But his personal connection to the city is tenuous at best. You don't move your residence thousands of miles and an ocean away if you are all in haha.
I would imagine you would probably always and forever have a connection to a place that played such a major role in your life , I could be wrong but I highly doubt it ....

He can live anywhere and moved away from Calgary. The connection I am making is, if he is willing to personally do that, why wouldn't he move his hockey team elsewhere. If his connection to Calgary was so strong you would think he would live there at least. He literally moved across an ocean. I'm sure he would move his hockey team if he doesn't get the people to pay for his arena. Which if his connection to Calgary were so strong you would think he would pony up the dough.

Houston Flames lets get it done. I'm sure he has tons of business ties there as well.

I know about as much about his connection to Calgary as you do ... which is absolutely ZERO .... just like Oiler owner Katz who lives in Vancouver and LA .... I do have the ability to reason though and I think I am a lot closer to it than you are ....
