I doubt he's here to replace Nesterov who was a 7th D, I would think he's been added to play in the top 6 depending on what the roster looks like. What Gragnani or others did in the league means nothing, it's what Jerabek can bring that matters.

True. That's what he can do that matters. But we should probably more refer to him based on his qualities rather than his numbers then. And we should just be careful about our expectations. That's all. He is not coming in with an automatic spot. He has to come in to compete.

Good move since it does not cost anything. The optimistic ones can look at Mark Streit. He came here at 27, almost 28, and was developped in the Swiss league. Look at how his offensive stats improved in the NHL. Gainey was dumb enough to let him go for nothing. I am saying Jerabek will be as good as Streit. All I say is that we don't know and Streit is a good example of the upside a smaller European D can have when in his mid 20.

We also tried to replica Mark Streit by bringing in Raphael Diaz (25) who also had some good stats in the Swiss League. I'm not saying that Jerabek won't be great.. but this team has a bad history about bringing in undrafted players that never played in the NHL before. I also feel the same about Shipachev

And Diaz turned into Weise who was decent for us and then he turned into Danault. On top of that, Diaz had over 200 games in the NHL, not bad for a free asset.

Streit and Diaz, one out of two on defense, not bad. Upfront Sekac failed, but we got DSP who turned into Matteau. Few will agree, but Matteau still has a shot at becoming a bottom-6 player in the NHL with size and speed. He just turned 23. We spent a late pick on Martinsen who will turn 27 in June. When 23, Martinsen played in the German League. What's the difference between the two? So all that to say that it's never a bad thing to bring players with a decent shot at making it. It took two adaptation years before Streit really showed his full potential,

I know nothing about this player so it's a wait and see I guess. It didn't cost the Habs any assets so hopefully it works out for them.

good to add an asset...

best case, he's smart enough of a player in the d-zone to end up being a compliment for weber on the 1st pairing (though 2 slow footed d on the top pairing)

worst case, he doesn't make the team.

low cost high reward.

Who's that Chris Lee who had 65 pts in 60 games as a D in the KHL last year? Any reason this Ontario guy never even played in the NHL?

"This guy can play. He was IMO the best Czech Dman at Worlds last year.
Very smart player, excellent first pass, great passing PP QB, responsible defensively.
On the downside, he has rather average shot, doesn't shoot enough and isn't the fastest skater.
Also he isn't very physical player but when he has to he can hit people pretty hard.

IMO he could end up being solid top 4 Off. D, PP specialist."

Don't remember seeing this guy at all but this scouting report doesn't excite me at all. Also, "good first pass" as one of the main attribute of a player is almost always a codeword for "sucking".

But hey, in its own twisted way, it still sounds more enticing than that pretentious wuss Beaulieu.
