Not silly at all, imo. Even just on an AHL level, when you see a guy like Julien Brouillette back in town for a try-out as a LHD, it's obvious that they're onto Plan B/C/D/whatever already so... you'd have to think someone with the size/skill/awareness/work ethic of DLR could do even better. But how high could he make it is the question. I think he has the potential to be at least as good as Hanley, but would that be worth it?
I just don't want to lose him to Sweden/European League...I would at least want management to try him out as a dman.
Maybe he has more potential than Hanley and Redmond? (guessing), and so it would be worth it...trying him as a dman.
We could definitely use his size/height back there and reliable/smart DEFENSIVE GAME.
Heck, if many Hab fans don't trust Beaulieu's defensive game and lack of offense and shot (and especially decision making/hockey sense,etc,etc)...maybe DLR can be a better dman vs Beaulieu?!
When did we convert Markov to D? I don't think Lefebvre or Therrien would have the smarts to try it out, but it can possibly work in theory.
How's his skating? I mean if he's able to move the puck well I think it could work. He'll be a good #5/6D that can move the puck and is good on D. He just won't be able to score.
No one here ever said/wrote that Markov was converted while he was a Hab (I could be wrong!?). It happened in Russia before he was drafted by the Habs (from what I know...based on what many Hab fans have said here now and also a few yrs ago, etc).
Just guessing here (guess-timating)...DLR has the potential to be a good #5-6 dman for our Habs (with one year+ of AHL experience as a dman, etc). Score? Well...it would be nice to have at least one Leftie DEFENSIVE specialist dman...reliable for defensive tasks (15-18min). Scoring...Weber, Petry, Markov (regular season only, not playoffs...obviously).
