Ironically, that's exactly what Quenneville allegedly said to management - that Chicago may never get that far into the playoffs again and dealing with the issue at that point would negatively impact team chemistry.

Yeah it all came down to protecting the image. It's sick and has no place anywhere in a civilized society.

I'm surprised there hasn't been much blowback towards the players on the team or Donald Fehr yet. Donald Fehr outright denied having heard about it but the internal investigation revealed that one of the confidants of the player reached out to the NHLPA and Fehr speficially.

Yeah I believe Murat as well. This being a planned release ahead of this report would mean that Murat would have some knowledge about the contents as well and hid that, I don't see him doing that.

Plus, I don't think that would be up to him to release it. He has copy editors and people who push content when it's live on the site. The timing of this would be further up the chain than him.

Does anyone have the quote where Chevy denied knowing anything about this matter?

He said he did not know anything about it until he was made aware shortly before the offender was let go..... I'm paraphrasing (hope Im not too far off)

I wonder who in the organization gave him a recommendation which allowed him to go on and get another job where he victimized a minor?

Sounds like Bowman is dropping this directly on McDonough......but still, not looking good for all involved.

Hockey culture, executive culture, and social hierarchy all coalesce to form this frothing mass of grossness. You just knew that every executive in that room felt it wasn't their place because somebody higher than them would make that decision for them. If they broke off on their own to do something, they would have been immediately blackballed. I'm not defending them, but I understand the inaction of everybody involved. This is more endemic of sexual assault cases than anything else. Protect the accused and the powerful over the victims. The culture needs to change.

Not sure which quote, but here's the Twitter quote and the relevant section from the document:

f. Kevin Cheveldayoff
Kevin Cheveldayoff, then the Assistant General Manager, recalled that there was a meeting in McDonough’s office before a home game during the Philadelphia series (the Stanley Cup Finals), and not the San Jose series.446 Regardless of when Cheveldayoff believed the meeting occurred, Cheveldayoff recalled being in a meeting in McDonough’s office regarding Aldrich with others in senior management, including McDonough, Bowman, MacIsaac, and Quenneville.447

[He recalled that he was told in the meeting] that Aldrich was socializing with players outside the arena, Aldrich sent inappropriate texts to players, and Aldrich made unwanted advances on players.448 Cheveldayoff recalled that John Doe and Black Ace 1 were specifically referenced during the meeting.449 Cheveldayoff also recalled that he felt shocked at the time because it was not common for coaches and players to socialize, and he believed at the time that the allegations were serious.450

He further recalled someone stating that the allegations needed to be investigated and that someone would make sure the two players and Aldrich would be kept separate.451 Cheveldayoff recalled no other substantive details from the meeting.

And some damning points from Katie Strang, which provide some insight into what this report might mean for players:

The NHLPA may yet take some action.

I'm surprised the Jets haven't already put Chevy on suspension pending further investigation. Expect it to happen before puck drop tonight

Edit - or maybe pending further action

Just to clarify, I believe the first quote is Chevy's public statement from several months ago and the 2nd quote is Chevy from the more recent interview conducted internally by the Organization...so yes they are contradictory, which is the problem.

It's legal semantics. In both cases he's saying he was made aware of the allegations but in his press release he isn't clear on the time he was made aware. Just prior to his time ending with the company can be subject to interpretation whereas he gave a direct date in the report.

So Chevy caught In a lie? I wonder what he told Chipman then.

The whole thing is disgusting. However, before executing Chevy, far more needs to be known about his role. Further, is this type of investigation the assistant GM's responsibility? There had to have been someone more qualified to handle it in the organization than Chevy (and if there wasn't, these organizations are in worse trouble than I ever thought). Who instructed that person to not investigate? I'd like to know more about what was discussed at that May 23 meeting, but given it was over 10 years ago, I bet none of those involved were willing to share any details and claimed their memory had faded.

Further, this was Chevy's comment:

"I had no knowledge of any allegations involving Mr. Aldrich until asked if I was aware of anything just prior to the conclusion of his employment with the Chicago Blackhawks. After confirming that I had no prior knowledge of anything, I had no further involvement. As this is a legal matter before the courts, I will not be making any further comment."

Presumably, when he refers to being asked if he knew anything he is referring to the May 23 meeting. Can this reasonably be considered "just prior" to the termination of Aldrich's employment on June 16? The whole thing is a mess I am trying to wrap my head around...

I am going to wait and see how the process plays out.

Yes, that is what I intend to do as well.

Zero tolerance for sexually predatory behavior is long overdue in our society, but how far the net of culpability should extend within organizations, in retrospect, is a more complicated matter.

Chevy deserves to have his hearing and Chipman needs to do the right thing for TNSE and for society at large. My personal belief is that there is still room for Chevy to admit that, in retrospect, he could have done more, and for TNSE to resolve to be an agent of change in this area, just as they championed mental health, having lost a player to suicide.

But even if that were an option, the least complicated solution for Bettman is to have Chevy go away.

Tired: GM who covered up sexual assault.
Wired: GM who worked closely with Graham James for years.

I once worked with someone for years in IT. Really nice guy, enjoyed working with him. Used to go to lunch often. Turns out he was running a large Child pornography server from his house. This was a married man with children of his own. I believe it is entirely possible to know someone and be friends with them and have them do something so heinous and still be his friend or wife or kids and not know.
