Thing is we've seen Ned successfully show exactly that at high level play, mind you over a short tournament setting. Even on a US team that won bronze he had probably the single most dominant showing I've ever seen by a goalie in the WJC.

Though his SV% is concerning. The Checkers do have a more offensive minded defensemen and seem more attack heavy vs the Canes, so maybe he's facing more quality shots and that's a reason his Sv% is low? It would definitely be interesting to see how his numbers translate over to the NHL, I wonder if they could somehow improve or at least stay the same with a more steady group of NHL defensemen in front of him? I do hope we eventually give him a few games up here just to see what he can bring at the NHL level.

I'm curious to know if any goalies that had a ..905 sv% in the AHL ever translated into an NHL goalie?

What can be done against AHL goalies and AHL defensemen vs. NHL goalies and NHL defensemen are a completely different thing. If you take the last 5 years and average each NHL players Shooting % (for guys with > 300 games), the best is Stamkos at 16.7%. Other notables: Malkin at 14.8%, Kucherov at 14.4%, Crosby 13.8%, Tavares 13.6%, Patrick Kane: 13.5%, Ovechkin: 13.0%.

Zykov's 28% just isn't sustainable. Not to say he won't be a good scorer, just shooting 28% won't happen in the NHL. Heck, even 15% isn't likely.

Looked up some stats to see if this could give more insight. So both Foegele and Zykov have scored a lot of goals, 23 for eighth and 27 for first in AHL, and have high shooting percentages, 18% and and 28%. They've good number more goals than assists. What else jumps out is Foegele is a +23 and Zykov is -15.

Yeah, that's mainly because Foegele's goals are ALL ES or SH goals and 1/2 of Zykov's are PP. I think Foegele is a better defensive player as well.

I've wondered if the shooting percentage is not so much luck or skill, but where and when he shoots. He gets a lot of his opportunities on the PP directly in front of the net. That probably is a situation that both promotes a higher than average shooting percentage and one that is repeatable.

The easy answer is he's really bad at generating shots himself, but can win a battle in front and has the hands to bang in the rebound. If that's the case, he could probably get into the nhl if he is even at everything else, pp specialist like mark letestu. Isn't zykov kind of slow though?

I feel like this is sarcasm.
I had a phase at high school age and read an early 20th century translation of Milton's Paradise Lost they got at the local library. It got a scene where Belial or someone makes snide remarks for fellow demons. The good translator, a serious man on serious business, had added a footnote marker: "This here may be humour."

There’s definitely a good chance Ryan gets re signed. He’s a cheap option who reasonably productive for the price. Necas likely won’t and shouldn’t be given anything prior to camp. He has to actually make the team. If Ryan gets bounced out of his spot he can play utility or be waived.
There is no way that Ryan should be on this team if we want to achieve something next season.

Re-signing Ryan is a sure fire sign we're making no progress as a team. For the love of God, aim higher.

Slotting in Necas on the 3rd line would also be bad IMO. Only way I see us not making a move for a 1C is if Lindy comes around and in a big way.

I feel like your definition of reasonably productive is different from my own.

If we iced a pylon in OT, at least that thing might have the offhand chance of blocking or deflecting a shot.

I think it depends a bit on how Wallmark and Lindy look the rest of the way. If Lindy continues to look good at center and Wallmark shows he can be at least a competent 4C, then there's not the need to re-sign Ryan. I don't think Necas will be handed anything, but do feel he'll be good enough to take it (at least a 3C spot). Plus I do think the Canes will go after a center this off season, via trade or UFA.

Staal, Lindy, Rask, Wallmark, Necas + UFA/trade would mean no real reason to re-sign Ryan.

If Lindy and Wallmark flounder the rest of the way, it's a different story though.

I'd like to see a 1C by the start of next season whether that's JT or a trade. If we bring in a center, there's no room for Ryan & Rask on this team. Unless we utilize Rask on the wing like we've done the previous 2 games.

Please let Ryan walk and maybe trade Rask for a meh winger or veteran depth D.

If Necas is ready to start the NHL at C I think that #3 spot is perfect for him. If he needs to play wing to start his NHL so be it and we slot in Lindy there.

I think Wallmark should be fine for #4C duties.
