Mitchell or Volchenkov for 1, MAYBE 2 years. Anything else is just bad.

The only way I'd want either of these guys is if the plan were to use Smith in a mostly offensive role. No more of this splitting the difference between Quincey and and Smith and trying to make them both jack-of-all-trades type players. Pair Mitchell/Volchenkov with Smith and let the horse run wild.

Funny thing about Red Wings. In Detroit, fans are frustrated. Understandably so. Outside Detroit, Wings remain model org. in many ways.

Like I've said earlier if we miss out on the truly good options on the market, I'd rather go into the season with the kids and add a D at the deadline if we are competitive enough.
