If Coffey is so smart, then why does our D blow? Isn’t he the supposed to be our defence whisperer? He worked with Jones and Bear I heard? Where are those plugs now? And he works with Bouchard a lot too doesnt he? And Bouch is trending to be a worse Tyson Barrie.

All that matters is if you can convince Katz you have the answers. Helps that Katz keeps hiring incompetent people so he is endlessly looking for someone to give him a new sales job on how they would do better. Somehow Coffey has also impressed some media guys like MacT did.

Remember when MacT took a weekend EMBA course and came back to the Oilers to instantly become SVP under Lowe, and media guys were talking about how smart he sounds. Next thing we know he is our savior GM.

Coffey following that same career path pretty close. Somehow has weaseled his way near the top of the org with next to no experience in any management. Friedman and others have raved about how smart Coffey sounds and how strong his voice is in the org already.

We're screwed I think, even if Holland is fired.
You can’t just say every player who played for the Oilers that goes into management is comparable to MacT / Lowe.

We went out of the organization and hired PC and Holland and that was a disaster as well.

Who do you think should be the interim GM? Keith?

Hiring hockey Canada buddies of Bobby Nick's who was buddies with Lowe and Katz was not much better, I agree. Especially after Lowe was the guy that insisted to Katz that Bobby Burgers was the man for the job when Lowe ascended to chairman.

All current hires still root from Lowe, and now we have a chance to try our hand to start fresh with another one of the old boys club. Think the odds of success remain stacked against it working. Katz sitting in the same comfort zone of trusting friends since he took the team over.

It’s fair to feel that way. All I’m saying is Coffey isn’t Lowe. He wasn’t a dink to the fan base for a decade. Only thing he has done to our fan base is win us cups.

Interim doesn’t mean he’s our GM going forward. It just means he’s better than Hollands son. I hope there is an extensive search in the summer.

I agree they shouldn’t hire someone just because they played for the Oilers but it’s also silly to not hire someone just because they played for the Oilers.

Pete C had the ultimate luck as GM. Draft lotto pick #97 fell into his lap. He demonstrated zero acumen in landing him.
Pretty big stretch. He came into a team with no top 4 D and no nhl goalies. He right away brought in Sekera then Larsson and Russell the next year and Klefbom developed well also signed him to a steal contract. The team looked great until Sekera had a season ending injury then another one the next one year and his time as a top 4 D ended. Klef declined and was injured a ton as well. Russell was a passable #4 when we got him but took a step back as well. Chiarelli drafted well though and signed our core guys to good deals. His trades just back fired so badly.

I meant ultimate in that he walked in and then the org won the draft lotto when a generational player was up for grabs.

Wings fan here. I knew the moment he was hired it would be a disaster. He is seriously wasting the career of the goat (yes I put McDavid over Wayne) and the second best player in the league both in their primes. It's a complete joke...

Next home game and from here on out, there better be "fire Holland" chants especially if this dead cat don't bounce.

Holland is already gone, he's just warming the seat for the next guy while they wait for his contract to run out so he can retire off into the sunset.

Pretty clear Jackson is in control for now and has been since he was hired, and it's likely Holland's fate was sealed last year when some of the internal impatience was leaked about Holland dithering leading up to the deadline before he got Ekholm.

New coach is in place. Same issues with the team. How can this ownership keep this guy around when he made this mess and expect him to clean it up? Pathetic.

Fraud GM that worked out in Detroit because he lucked into like 50 Euro hits from his scouting department most notably the best D of his generation and didn't have to worry about a salary cap until he had gotten full use out of Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

Send him to the moon but then what? Who could change this team around within the next 1-2 seasons, and let alone this season?
They are stuck with horrible contracts, terrible depth scoring, terrible d, terrible goaltending.
This team, unless the players that is on it right now can change things around, is a 3-4 year project if not more with McDavid and Draisaitl leaving.

You basically have to trade Drai and RNH and hope to get some useful players back.

More like he had unlimited cap to dole out
