they score 4 goals last night without McDavid

And? My point was the D and goaltending was a time bomb that was going to explode and it basically is.

How long were the Oilers planning to run this right side D and same goalie tandem that destroyed their playoffs last season?

They took a big risk in sitting on their hands over the summer and only bringing in Connor freaking Brown.

It was a fluke. They are brain dead defensively and were showing it in the playoffs with the worst GA in the playoffs of any team past round 1.

Even with big surge at the end of the regular season they still finished in the bottom half of the league for GA which tells you what? They play D like a non-playoff team, McDrai just bailed them out.

So they went from one top 4 D ... to two.

Wow. So what happens if he has an injury.

Right back to only 1 top 4 D (Nurse, who is *not* a no.1 D either).

And anyone sprouting that shit about Bouchard being a top 3 D-Man can go watch that game from yesterday on loop.

This organization has tried to float by for years and years doing the bare minimum in net and goal, scraped by because McDavid/Draisaitl are that brilliant upfront, but I think it's finally catching up to them.

This is a profoundly stupid team defensively also, they play with the poise and common sense of a team not much better than the Dallas Eakins era.

Vegas is 7-0 and their best defenseman Pietrangelo has only played 2 games and Alec Martinez 3 games...yet they don't use excuses

Vegas is the best team in the league defensively probably, lol, don't even compare the Oilers to that, lol. That's just a joke.

Shea Theodore is a no.1 D himself and he's better than anyone the Oilers have and their depth D guys like Hague are really solid.

That's not even a comparison, in the playoffs last year, Zack Whitecloud who is like their no.4 or 5 D outplayed Darnell Nurse.

Their D also is not stupid as a brick on top of lacking defensive ability like our group is.

Given the lack of secondary scoring up front you might wonder about moving Bouchard (and his offensive skills) to the wing and recalling Neimo to give the defense some more physical play. Neimo isn't a defensive stalwart either but Bouchard doesn't seem willing to pay the price required to move guys out of the crease. Perhaps he rebounds but right now its pretty shaky.

Shea Theodore this year

7 gp, 2g, 5a, 7 points, +7 rating

That is Norris trophy caliber play. Vegas is not 7-0 by accident.

You guys need to get out of your Oilers bubble and evaluate other teams honestly, you're sitting here acting as if Nurse and Bouchard are almost as good as these guys ... no. No they're not.

It’s starting to feel like Vegas killed our franchise the way we killed the flames
Overcompensating for sure, but also the notion of "Well we almost beat the Stanley Cup champions" must've settled into their minds.

Well, no, we didn't. Vegas was never in danger of losing that series.

The thing that frustrates me about Holland and really most Oiler GMs is that they're never proactive. As much as we shit on Lowe, he was extremely proactive during '06 and it nearly got the team a Cup. Holland is content to sit on his hands until the TDL and then see what's available. Chiarelli's gameplan in 17/18 was to pick up something at the TDL that would help the team in the playoffs... But they never got that far. The trade deadline is for adding bit parts that can help, not addressing needs. If the team continues losing he either needs to make some moves or move aside for his successor.

The patient approach was basically what we needed, for 3 years or so until we had space, didn’t really have a choice after Chiarelli. But Holland just sitting there thinking we were fine this off season bothers me so much man. Whenever we do have space we overpay our existing players and don’t actually get better too.

I'd say patience even from the start is what is going to sewer the McDrai era.

You can't just sit on your hands and wait for your cap issues to go away. You have to be aggressively looking for undervalued guys who can punch above their price tag.

Instead of promising roster spots to the corpse of Kyle Turris, toss a 5th rounder at a Chandler Stephenson. Claim a Mike Amadio off waivers. Sign a Carter Verhaeghe, a Valeri Nichushkin, etc. Hell, at least add a Kostin every season.

Holland just sat on his hands, tossed a bunch of money out in UFA and now it's no wonder they don't have a single player on a value deal(outside a couple guys Chia signed).

What also really hurts this team is the abysmal drafting by both Holland and Chiarelli.

He fully deserves to be fired but in this world the people who deserve to get things don;t and visa versa. He will walk away into the sunset of retirement at years end leaving the team in a sorry state.
