We traded for Kessel while he was injured - unless its a season ending injury it shouldn't be that much of a turn off?

In the NHL Salary Cap world you need to build through the draft, then when you are on the verge on competing you acquire players to put your over the top, then and only then do you bring in players that you have no drafted.

That's an arbitrary fantasy that forum fans have created to satisfy there dislike with management doing thing differently than they liked.

There is little to no reason to suggest that a player can't be a part of a team's core simple because he hasn't been drafted by them. It's nonsense. It just happen often because teams are reluctant to trade young players, not because you shouldn't build that way. Very few of you seem to have any issue with the Stars trading for Seguin to be a part of their core. That's a double standard.

Sorry but until some actual arguments are made that doesn't fly. It's just a buzzworthy statement fans try to throw around but doesn't actually have any logical leg to stand on.

Basically what Dreger does is it not :help:

Calm down with the Dreger hate. He calls a lot of stuff dating back for years. His track record is fantastic which is a big reason why he is where he is. He can be wrong about certain things but if he says something, there's probably some truth to it.

Just because the Leafs haven't done a trade for your precious mental state and impatience, it doesn't mean there isn't a ton of talk in the backgrounds with Dreger reporting what he knows.

The dead line isn't for another 3 weeks. Lot's and lot's and lot's of time for things to unfold. Dreger, along with every other insider, will be talking a lot about developments.

Is this your first NHL Trade Deadline?

To be fair, Dreger hasn't exactly been as reliable these last few years. He's become much more of a rumor monger than a credible reporter of source info. He's not Eklund bad, but he's certainly no longer near the level Bobby Mac or Elliote Friedman are in my opinion.

But yeah people are starting to freak out a little. It might be necessary to pull back a little lol

Oh dear lord. Now he's just throwing s*** at the wall and hoping it sticks.

well they saw how good a building block he was in Toronto...

or perhaps, that is exactly why they want him to build around, and then get the team run out of the desert, and relocate.

I don't disagree that McKenzie and Friedman are top notch, but even Friedman in his 30 thoughts will speculate A LOT and most of it is just fodder speculation.

Dreger reports on the Leafs a lot more then any other insider. It feels like he's the dedicated Leafs insider at TSN, which is why he gets a lot of hate from Leaf fans.

McKenzie rarely ever speculates though, and his opinion is always neutral without any big opinions, which is why he rarely ever gets caught with his pants down. But it has happened.

Anyway, I just find it odd that people are all ready frustrated at the lack of trades despite having another 3 weeks to potentially wait. Sheesh...

I think a lot of people need to realize that this business is difficult to pin down.
You can't ONLY judge an "insider" by the amount of hits he has in his rumors mill reporting.

There's a lot of discussion that happens in the background that we will never be able to confirm. A lot of internal proposals and offers that we'll never see or know.

That doesn't make them any less valid. As mentioned, there's a reason why Dreger is on TSN. I'm not defending his lack of accurate "predictions" in the past two years, but it's a hard balance to report ALL Maple Leaf rumblings and turn that into successful executed transactions in real life. It just doesn't work like that. Not all rumors or discussion will come to fruition.

Shouldn't be moving Bernier at all. Even in a rebuild, you need goaltending to give your youth a chance to win. Otherwise, you're the Oilers. We have no top goaltending prospects, Bibeau is okay but we have no Vasilevski or Gibson.

They won't need (if anything he might hurt your plan) Bernier for the next 5+ years. If you can get something for him......
