Totally sold on this kid. There’s always one young player that sticks out to me in the playoffs. This is the guy. I also find it amusing that amassing stats on special teams is some kind of issue.

If you're not scoring highlight-reel goals at even strength, are you really scoring?

I think everyone knew he had the potential to be a steal at the time and looking back its just a really good draft where any of these guys could turn into stars. I'm not sure how much the teams ahead of him aren't happy with selection.

Defenceman take a while so it's hard to call Seider, Broberg, Soderstrom and York misses as this point. Zegras has 21 points in 17 games, Matt Boldy has 18 points in 14 AHL games, Spencer Knight appears to be capable of playing in the NHL already and Vancouer seems happy with Podkolzin.

Full props to Caufield showing that he's dedicated enough to put the work in and become a more well rounded player. Everyone always knew he could score but he's worked on his play away from the puck, gotten faster and doesn't look 5'7" 160lbs.

It's the opposite of an issue considering Montreal's PP was in serious trouble. They have Gustafsson playing 6 minutes a night just to be a PP specialist. They want nothing more than Caufield to rack up points on the PP and then they can focus ice time to the 5-on-5 specialist like Danault and Gallagher.

I don't know about best ever. Lets see how good Seider looks, but 2 years out no one has shown through as a potential franchise player on the level of some of the previous drafts of the decade. There is a lot of depth though.

Spot on about the end of the 1st though, for example, having seen Beecher a ton, him over Pinto and Kaliyev is going to be cringe worthy for the Bruins in a couple of years. And going off statistics it sure looks like the Ducks made a poor pick with Tracey letting Kaliyev fall to their rivals. I can't believe Kaliyev fell to the Kings. Imagine if the Ducks had ended up with Zegras and Kaliyev.

By saying one of the best ever, I think the sheer amount of potential 1st liners will be off the charts. And there are 5 guys I think that could end up being Franchise worthy, but obviously a little early to tell yet.

What was Edmonton thinking drafting Broberg ahead ofCole??

I don't think Holland was willing to risk a 5'7 kid as his first 1st rounder. Maybe a bit of panic after Yzerman took Seider. I think the real question is why he chose Broberg over not just Cauf, but Zegras/Boldy/Krebs/Newhook/Podz. I think Broberg and Soderstrom were pretty shaky top 15 picks.

This Vegas series was the ultimate litmus test for him. There were never any questions about his offensive talent, the questions were about if he could be a good enough 200 foot player and good at enough other things for a team to be able to afford to put him on a top line.

Against Vegas, there are no easy matchups. All their lines are good. You can give him offensive zone draws which they’re doing, but Vegas is still the deepest team in the league.

The fact that he’s generating tons of quality chances and not getting hemmed in his own zone with this little experience is a fantastic sign for his potential.

It's truly bizarre the reaction that this guy gets from certain people here. I've been on this site for over 2 decades and I am struggling to think of another player that has ever drawn this kind of weird unwarranted scorn. This guy scores a goal and it's the credit of the guy making the pass, then when he is dishing out primary assists in huge moments it is the credit of the guy scoring the goal. Even people who I think are really good and quality posters just have some bizarre ridiculous opinions of him that I have never seen them have on any other prospect on any other team. I think it's because so many people are hardwired in their thinking on what an NHL player should look like. It's not entirely different when than when these new types of NFL QB's came in. People were just so set in their ways thinking that an NFL QB had to be a 6'4 drop back passer that they refused to realize until the bitter end that there was a place in the league for guys like Russell Wilson and for guys like Lamar Jackson. Who like Caufield were passed over in their drafts for guys who will never have the type of impact in the league that they did.

When he was drafted people questioned how he would do in the NCAA, one of the NHL's premier feeder leagues. He scored point per game as a freshman and had a historical season as a 19/20 year old sophomore. People still doubted and said the pro game would eat him up, then he went to the AHL and just looked completely out of place in the two games (in a good way). He went to the NHL and scored 4 times in his first 10 games, the narrative then became that he wouldn't be able to do it in the playoffs, where again he would supposedly be eaten alive by bigger and stronger competition. He jumps into that series with Toronto and completely changes the dynamic of the Habs team (even the Leafs admitted it after the series). Then these people change their tune to the competition, saying that no one in the North division played any defense and that he would again be eaten alive by bigger and stronger players in this Vegas series, here we are 3 games in and he has a 2-1-3 line in the three games against a non-North team. Now the new excuse is apparently going to be that it's not sustainable and that he will be eaten alive over an 82 game schedule. How many kids in their D+2 who play on a 1st line and have produced at the pace he has currently produced at fall off a cliff and fizzle out? I know there are examples of some who have, but the vast vast majority of players who come into the league and look this good thing young continue on to be impact players. This is a factual statement, even the people who continue to doubt him would agree with that, but they think the rules are different here with this player, again I think because they just can't fathom that a player of his size could possibly be an impact NHL player, there is just no other reason I can think of. I would have thought DeBrincat's success (and I think he's an inferior talent to CC) would have maybe changed some minds, but I don't think we are there yet.

Props to you, you are capable of doing something many on this forum are not able to do.

I was deadly wrong about him either... Last 2 WJC were concerning when he was completely outdone by Beniers and Zegras. Never thought he would be a good NHLer but his shot release his one of the best I've seen (everybody knew that tho) but his IQ and ability to get into the sweet spot in the offensive zone is off the chart. Really to be wrong on him he is exciting to watch should be a 40 goal scorers easily for the next 10 years

Montreal fans are over hyping this kid is a BIG way...

* He is a liability when he's not scoring.
* He's a giveaway machine.
* He can't play D.
* He's easily pushed off the puck.

He's had a ton of PP minutes and he's scored 1 goal in the playoffs - and that was a gimme because the Vegas players ignored him after he whiffed on the first shot.

He is smaller version of Alex Galchenyuk - remember how good he was going to be after his rookie season?

Talking about KK right?

Last year that kid was Nick Suzuki for me. Habs have a good young core going forward no matter what HFBoards says. Feels so good to have a guy like Caufield on our team finally. A guy who's going up the ice and you know something will happen. I haven't felt that way about a Hab since Saku, bar Pacioretty for a year, pretty much up until the Chara hit.
