different roles, expectations and stages of their career. Stanley you expect growing pains. Demelo i thought would be a bit better.Ppl shitting on Demelo but praising Stanley. Different roles but not much of a sample size so far for both this season
DeMelo is a good 2nd pairing defender.
Morrissey is a good 2nd pairing defender.
Pionk is a good 2nd pairing defender.
The rest of the Jets are 3rd pairing of varying capabilities or unknown comodities.
See the problem?
I would say right now they are playing as near equivalents. Maurice is not wrong in limiting his minutes. How'd this guy go from 'coach's porn' to 16 mins a night and a whopping 11 mins last night.
The f*** does Maurice see in Beaulieu the to be playing him more.
i think you're in the minority with beau being = demelo right now.I would say right now they are playing as near equivalents. Maurice is not wrong in limiting his minutes.
I would hope Demelo gets back to playing the way he was upon his arrival in Jetsville...it will make our backend much stronger. Whereas Beaulieu is likely not going to resurrect his career.
I’m fine with being in the minority...there really isn’t a marked difference between the play of the two. I want neither of them on the ice late in the game. Apparently our coaches felt the same last night too.i think you're in the minority with beau being = demelo right now.
Who plays the right side? Morrissey or Heinola?Heinola needs to be paired with 44 and give DeMelo a look with Pionk.

Like I said, I think Demelo can get back to better play, Beaulieu not so much.
Thanks @garret9Not a marked difference... except in actual performance...
5v5 goal differential per hour:
DeMelo +0.93 (2nd best on Jets out of 8)
Beaulieu -1.22 (2nd worst)
Shots on net differential:
DeMelo +2.78 (1st)
Beaulieu -1.22 (7th)
Corsi:
DeMelo -0.86 (3rd)
Beaulieu -10.36 (6th)
Expected goals:
DeMelo +0.31 (1st)
Beaulieu -0.76 (6th)
Of the players to skate regularly with both Beaulieu and DeMelo (Morrissey and Stanley) all have done better with DeMelo.
No.Do we really need advanced stats, to ascertain, that 88 isn't very good?
I’m not sure you even need vision.Do we really need advanced stats, to ascertain, that 88 isn't very good?

I'm not sure I agree with that. Considering the year to year variability in adjusted metrics, it's often hard to get a really clear picture about how much better one player's performance is than another's. I think what it might do better is to give more objective evidence about the performance of players that are under-appreciated due to style or counting stats (e.g. DeMelo). Conversely, it can give you some pause about players you might overvalued based on style or production (e.g. Connor). As a NHL exec once said when I talked to him:
Advance stats aren't to tell you who is the worst or best. That's obvious.
They will help you say by what degree someon is better, giving you quantity to what you knew, and also help with the middle area that's a lot less obvious.
Do we really need advanced stats, to ascertain, that 88 isn't very good?
I laughed out loud when Maurice called DeMelo's game 'coaches porn'. If he was that great, he wouldn't have been so cheap - a third round pick. I am not crapping on DeMelo. He is a decent 2nd pairing D man and we got him pretty cheap. But he was never going to be more than that, alth0ugh possibly less. I think it was a good acquisition by Chevy. The problem is that all of our D men are being asked to play over their heads. That's what's going to bite us in the playoffs this year.
