Matt Dumba

Dumba is a fine player - and the ducks needs someone like him. The problem is acquiring him before expansion makes no sense - we'd have to expose or trade one of Lindholm, Manson or Fowler. Also, Dumba doesn't really fit the window for the rebuild and we'd have to resign both him and Lindholm to big deals (or lose one of them).

And while he's a clear upgrade, dumba doesn't really solve the ducks biggest problem. We need forwards who score goals.

Like the player, not the timing. Ducks are better off finding a younger player IMO.

As a Ducks fan, I wouldn't touch that. A first to move up one spot? And it's not even a quality/tier difference like 3 to 4. One of Raymond/Rossi/Drysdale will be there at 6, I'd rather just take whoever falls to 6.
I'm not saying it's worth it to the Duck... but honestly, as a personal opinion, I value Raymond and Rossi much higher than Drysdale, and even if they are both gone, there are other guys I'd take over Drysdale (Holtz and Sanderson).

Um our head of scout said he sees 4 through 12 pretty close so I imagine we’d want to stay in top 12-15 range

obviously depends on assets coming back
I think thats pretty accurate, was hoping the sens could use Brannstrom to get another pick in the top 12 maybe add one of their 2nds.

- 2005 wasn't as deep at the top as 2020 is said to be
- 6 is better than 8 and 12 is much closer than 15
- it was actually a 2nd (#49) and a 7th (#207)
- i wouldn't trade #49 in this draft for johnsson

Pardon me...

obviously kopitar went right at #11. raymond, perfetti, rossi, holtz, drysdale and sanderson are potentially available at #6 and all of them have top line/pair upside. add askarov, who is said to be the best goalie prospect since carey price and you have top 10, who looks deeper than 2005.

I’m not exactly sure Anaheim would be willing to do it, but I’d do Dumba + Donato/ Dumba + whatever we get for Donato from SJ (likely 31 or a 2nd) for 6. He fits the age-group of their core and is, in my opinion, a safer option than Drysdale if that’s the direction they’re thinking.

I think most of us are hoping we just take a forward with the 6th pick, but if the plan is to draft drysdale I feel like just moving pick for dumba would be better

The draft always looks deeper when no one has had time to bust yet.

But I do think 2020 might be the deeper group. I remember that 2005 draft year and Columbus was deciding between Brule and Kopitar. Both were highly regarded but none of the players after those two were very promising.

Dumba will be pushing 30 and needing a big UFA deal by the time the Ducks are good. I sometimes feel like a Drysdale skeptic but I think Dumba type value is not much above Drysdale's floor.

That's fair, I just named Drysdale because he's been mentioned a lot. End of the day, there is a very high probability that someone picked after 5 is better than the player picked at 5 (like there is every year). We just have to hope that player goes to the Ducks.

In 2005 8OA was traded for 12OA and a 2nd.

So yeah not far off.
Just looked it up to see how it worked out and 8th was Devin Setoguchi while 12th was Marc Staal. Still not sure how to evaluate it LOL. I guess you give it to the Rangers. I'm not sure which 2nd they got in the trade but they drafted Marc Andre Cliche and Mike Sauer in the 2nd who both played around 100 NHL games

If you have a trade for one of our top 3 D sure. Drysdale doesnt need to be protected in the ED. Dumba gives us 4 who would need to be.

Isn't Dumba the same age as Lindholm? Like 26?

Right, prime age. But isn't the Ducks competitive window still a few years away? And at that point would you rather have an improving 21 year old Drysdale/Sanderson on their cheap bridge deal or a slightly post-prime 29 year old Dumba needing a big UFA deal?

I could be wrong about this but I just looked at the Ducks roster and assumed the sensible play is to build a core of skaters around the same age as Zegras. The Canucks FO have made a ton of mistakes but they're in a better position than most clubs because they drafted the right guys for their core around the same draft position that the Ducks are now in.

The best move for the Ducks would to not "fast track" the rebuild by trading picks for players (unless they are truly special/franchise changing players... who aren't available). Lindholm his the same age as Dumba and would be a good add, but they should hold on to the pick and see what they can get (pending what the scouting staff thinks of the players available).
