You realize what Drouin was doing at the same age, right?
The better player won't be determined by their rookie years. It'll be determined by what they become as both enter their primes in their mid/late 20s. So much could happen between now and then with either player; it's disingenuous to be basing arguments on a single season.

I'm really not a fan of Marner. Drouin has a slight age advantage but I still think he'll have had the better career by the end.

Im amazed at how many posters stat watch. Drouin has been great and his stats aren't there but he is fantastic. I think marner has the higher potential production wise but I'll keep JD

Drouin is in his 4th season and his career high is 53 points playing for Tampa and we're supposed to believe he's better than a player who scored 61 as a 19 year old rookie? That has lol written all over it.

The LOL is he has 2 goals so far

hmmmm

dude who hit 53pts the season he turned 22...or dude who hit 61 as a 19 year old

0.74ppg vs 0.59ppg

Marner by a fair bit
Dude who's earned his way to the 1st line or the guy that has been pushed down to the 3rd line and also had his ice time diminished this season.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. This thread wreaks of insecurity

The LOL is you judging a playmaker by his goal total.

So he is not expected to score any goal? LOL....2 is very bad even for a playmaker.

It's not like his assists total is impressive.

I think they can be both overrated. Based on what they've done so far, I'll go Marner. But if Drouin can succeed at 1C in Montreal Ill have to go with him. Similar players actually.

Btw what ever happened to that Lighting fan who adamantly claimed that Drouin would only move for Doughty or Karlsson and was a top 15 asset in the NHL? I haven't seen him since the Sergachev trade.

It's funny seeing the usual posters show up to vote against any leaf player. You guys need to change it up, you're getting way to predictable.

I've always like drouin and every time I watch him I see his high end skills but he hasn't been able to put it together consistently through 4 seasons. Mean while marner, at the age of 19 has shown more than drouin has at any point in his career. This will be a good one to look back on in a couple months when marner gets going

i mean marner put up more points as a rookie 19 year old than drouin has in the league. drouin has been benched quite a bit, sent down to the minors and traded. i think they're pretty even skill wise, but don't understand some of the posts ITT

Marner just got up to 58 pts. on pace for 68pts after a 61 pt rookie season.
ignoring the fact that he is 2 years older, Drouin so far has

32pts - 70 games
10 pts - 21 games
53 pts - 73 games
36 pts - 65 games

Marner 0.81ppg
Drouin 0.57ppg

Marner by a lot. the fact this poll is close is an absolute joke

I thought Drouin might break out with more responsibility but while his team is a factor, after another disappointing year I don't see how anyone can take him at this point. And it's not as if Marner's been a prime position himself. He's been moved around the lineup including time on the 4th line just as Drouin saw in Tampa, but he's managed to succeed despite that

Still think Drouin will turn into a decent player when Montreal gets its s*** together... Likely won’t ever be close to as good as Marner though.
