The offense is a problem but the Devils have lost points because they can’t even get to OT. The amount of times the other team scores the first goal is tiring too. Teams can get into their defensive shell faster because of that. 0-8-2 in someone’s last 10 starts is horrific. I don’t think even Blackwood would have a stretch like that in the NHL level. Now I don’t think Schneider is what we’ve seen in 2018 from him but it’s happened and if the Devils do miss the playoffs (still a decent chance to get in lot of games to make a turnaround for Cory) but its hard to look at anything else but a stretch where they got 2 points out of a possible 20 with their number 1 goalie in net allowing at least 3 goals in each of those.

I get that, I guess I just get tired of the constant finger pointing that goes on around here. It's like it can never be multiple reasons for the team struggling, it has to be Cory's fault, or Lovejoy's fault, or Hynes' fault.

Cory has not been good lately, I think we all agree on that. But outside of Hall, who else has been a factor offensively the last 9 games? If we need to rely on Hall creating multiple goals and our goalie only giving up 2 goals or less every night, we're probably not going to win a lot of games.

If i could add up all the times I was told the team was done, I would have made a tidy profit this year.

Team isn’t done until they are mathematically eliminated. As of right now we are still the first WC.

Philly is dropping and Columbus and Florida are not world beaters.

We need points. That's the whole issue. EVEN LOSER POINTS(aka OT/SO)!!

I don't care. But coming away from losses in regulation CONSTANTLY is what is sinking us.

If we can't at least bring some of these upcoming games into OT at least to bank one point, then we really don't deserve to make the playoffs, imo.

No one. It has been a one man show too often lately.

Wood has gone cold. Zacha is still cold and hurt. Grabner hasn’t done anything yet.

A lot of guys are due. I think we will see it happen. Maybe Hall’s streak being over let’s them rub stars out of their eyes and remind them he can’t do it alone.

Can’t xhange past results. All we can do is focus on the games remaining.

They can still close this out and they still control their fate.

It’s about the lack of ot points. The amount of regulation losses is undeserved. That Florida game was tied in the third, should have went to OT. Stuff like that, I don’t think they have played every game well enough to win but getting to OT and getting at least 1 point in some of those games would have made a big difference. They were nowhere near poor enough to pick up only 2 points in that span. And it’s not expecting every game to put up less than 3 goals but at least some. It’s not like he’s getting barraged with shots majority of those games he was under .900. That would be hard for any team in the NHL to win with

This board bags on contracts too easily whenever anyone is underperforming.

This was the same nonsense directed at Zajac. End of day there isn’t a contract on our books that hurts us. Sadly some of the same people that attacked people for saying Zajac’s contract isn’t garbage are now using that tact with Cory. Dumb and inconsistent.

You can critique the way a player is playing without haveing to result to this outlandish hyperbolic statements.

Greene’s contract is really bad imo

Zajac is still a very useful player, Greene is a complete liability who brings zero offense and is our highest paid defenseman.

Terrible goaltending. No offense other than Hall. Grabber is a waste so far . Florida and Columbus are right in there biting on our ankles. Everything must step up their game to stay in the race. That's Hynes and the coaches job IMO. Cory and Kinkaid have not helped this team.

I was at the game at BellMTS early this season and was blown away by how fast your team plays now. As Wheeler mentioned in his pregame interview it was the fastest game the Jets have been part of this season. Last night we goalied you but the Devils definitely took it to us and were the better team.

Great team speed and skill very fun to watch now. I hope you guys find a way into the playoffs. Best of luck closing out strong.

The discouragement on this board drives me nuts, it really does. The fact so many are willing to abandon ship and chalk it up to a lost season with so much left to go is embarrassing.

Yes, the hardest part of the season is about to come and yes, our lead has shrunk to the most minimal amount. None of this means the season is over yet. None of this changes that this team is easy to root for. None of this means we can’t overcome the challenge.

Support the goddamn team, will ya? I’ll be one of the few but I won’t be pouting about this season at the end no matter how this turns out. We haven’t even been able to enjoy being in a playoff race lately until now. It will suck if we don’t make it, but I won’t be calling for heads to roll when all is said and done. Feel free to fire at will.

We need Spider-Man to give us one more push!!!

Also even if we briefly fall it, it doesn’t mean we can’t get back in either. The margin of error is just as small, if not smaller for the teams chasing.

Even if the best we can do on the road trip is stay within one or two points of a spot, we come home with some very winnable games that will allow us to jump back in.

Especially since Florida’s schedule bunches up on them, and Philly seems to be dropping too.

It isn’t over until it is over.

By the way, we've scored a total of 8 goals in Cory's last 5 starts. You can get on him for the bad goals all you want to, but when the team leaves you that little margin for error, you're just asking for problems.

Since DD likes bringing up 12/27/17, let's take a look at what our secondary scoring has done since then. We've played a total of 33 games since then.

Bratt - 3 goals, 11 points
Wood - 7 goals, 11 points
Zacha - 3 goals, 9 points
Boyle - 2 goals, 4 points

And before anybody brings up Zajac, he has 8 goals and 18 points during that span. Yes, that's right, old Stone Hands has as many goals by himself as Bratt, Zacha, and Boyle have combined.

So before we keep shitting all over Cory, maybe we should ask where the hell some other players have been during his losing streak.

Fact is this downward trend has been a team effort. Everyone not named Hall has contributed.

we need three wins on the upcoming road trip.

just f***ing three.

f*** it, not even three wins, just get six points by any means.

if we can’t pull that off i’m going to start buying more yankees tickets. i’ll still be at all but one home game down the stretch but that devils playoff money can at least go to the freak show in the bronx.

I agree that its not completely fair to lay all of the blame on the goalies because the o and d could be doing much better. But as teams clamp down during the final stretch, I also think its fair to expect Cory, who is supposed to be in the upper echelon of goalies (and is certainly paid like one) to up his game as well. The problems on offense are being amplified by the need to score at least 3 goals a night to even get a loser point.

That's why hockey is such a team game. If your goalie is struggling, you might start forcing things to happen because you feel you need to score more. If you're a goalie and your offense is struggling, you might put too much pressure on yourself, and if you already have confidence issues it could just compound the problem. The bottom line is the team as a whole needs to come together and figure something out before they fall out of the playoffs entirely. It's nice to be ahead of schedule overall, but pissing away an MVP season from Hall would be a bitter pill to swallow, especially after we basically pissed away Cory's prime years.

i think ending this point streak was the best thing that could have happened for the team. i'm still confident the team can get this done and that says a lot coming from me of all people.

The season was doomed after the Florida Carolina games. It's still doomed. The trades. Had to be made but will end up having been a horrible waste of resources. This team has proven all year it can play really well w out actually wining. There are too many things wrong w this starting w average at very best goaltending. The schedule is a beast. The team now knows in the locker they are in serious crisis mode. We are a an injury away from being rendered useless as well. But since Shero traded away all of our picks this years potential collapse could sting the nostrils a bit more. And don't be mistaken this is gonna be an epic collapse

We're still in a playoff spot and the Flyers are crumbling.

If our players are giving up on the season despite still being in a playoff spot as of today, then they need to be identified and shipped out the second we can start moving players.

Let's fight through adversity instead of acting like a bunch of bitches.

You are correct but we gotta get some dead weight out soon. And I think hynes is the one guy that should get credit. This team has been in position to succeed all year. It's up to the players on ice to ultimately put the puck in the net and keep it out. But I'm not negative and of course I will root for this team. But they r going to miss the playoffs. Florida will pass them and so will Columbus its gonna stink. And what's worse is i think NYR are right back in the mix next year say what you want about them. They have a good GM
